Angels | Three Angels sitting out Friday

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:52:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar, OF Daniel Nava and C Carlos Perez are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp Friday, June 24. 3B Jefry Marte will start at third base and is batting sixth. C Jett Bandy will start at catcher and is batting seventh, while OF Shane Robinson will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marte has cooled off a bit and has only two hits in his last five games. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use. Bandy has gone 4-for-4 against left-handed pitchers since being called up and may be used in two-catcher leagues. Robinson has had some success over the last week or two but is not a strong option.

Angels | Carlos Perez handling catcher drills

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:14:53 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez has handled almost all of the catching duties since C Geovany Soto (knee) went down with a knee injury which required surgery. Perez is hitting just .188 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Perez is not a starting caliber backstop, but he has been thrust into the deal out of necessity. Jett Bandy is up with the team, but he isn't an everyday player, either. Both are only desperation No. 2 fantasy options in AL-only leagues until Soto returns.

Angels | C.J. Cron back in the lineup

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 12:19:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels 1B C.J. Cron is in the lineup at first base and batting fifth against Oakland Athletics SP Andrew Triggs on Saturday, June 18. C Carlos Perez is also starting behind the plate for the first time in three games and will hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Given the fact that Cron has yet to homer and has only five RBI in June, it is difficult to recommend him outside of very deep mixed or AL-only leagues despite the fact he is batting .290 this month. Perez has been a serviceable second catcher in two-catcher leagues at certain points the season, but he's only hitting .132 this month. DFS owners can avoid this duo for the foreseeable future.

Angels | Jett Bandy draws rare start

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:29:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Jett Bandy is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Wednesday, June 15, against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey. C Carlos Perez (rest) has the night off.

Fantasy Tip: This is just the seventh start for Bandy this season, and he's probably more of a dart throw than anything else in daily games as a result of his small sample size. He doesn't need to be on any rosters in season-long leagues.

Angels | Carlos Perez not starting

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 13:50:14 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Monday, June 6. C Jett Bandy will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bandy has gone 3-for-10 with three RBI since being recalled from the minors a few weeks ago. Bandy is not a great fantasy option, so owners should be able to find better players for their starting lineups.

Angels | Carlos Perez, Gregorio Petit out

Sun, 29 May 2016 11:18:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez and SS Gregorio Petit are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Doug Fister Sunday, May 29. SS Cliff Pennington will start at shortstop and is batting seventh, while C Jett Bandy will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Bandy is hitting .286 in limited playing time this season but is not a strong option in most leagues. Pennington is hitting only .217 in the first two months and probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Angels | Career game for Carlos Perez

Sun, 22 May 2016 18:39:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez tied a career high with three hits and drove in a career-high five runs in a 10-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, May 22. He finished 3-for-4 with a home run.

Fantasy Tip: Perez has nine RBI over his last four games, and he could be a useful option in AL-only leagues and two-catcher formats while Geovany Soto is out with a knee issue.

Angels | Carlos Perez, Brendan Ryan out

Sun, 15 May 2016 12:14:36 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez and SS Brendan Ryan are not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Sunday, May 15. C Geovany Soto will start at catcher and is batting seventh, while SS Gregorio Petit will start at shortstop and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Soto is hitting .231 with one home run and one RBI this month but should still be a starting candidate in two-catcher leagues and some daily fantasy leagues. Petit has gone 2-for-5 since joining the Angels but is not a great option at this point.

Angels | There is still a LAA catcher platoon

Mon, 02 May 2016 15:22:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Geovany Soto has started three of the past four games after C Carlos Perez started 15 of the first 22 outings, but manager Mike Scioscia still says the two catchers will split time behind the plate.

"I don't think the depth chart has changed," Scioscia said Monday, May 2. "Nothing has changed since we talked in the spring. We're going to need both of these guys. The playing time will certainly be split on performance, behind the plate and at the plate, primarily behind the plate."

Fantasy Tip: There is a stark difference offensively, as Soto is hitting .344 to start the season and Perez owns a .148 batting average. Clearly, neither backstop is going to run away with all the starts, but in the immediate future, Soto is the best fantasy asset. He is worth a look in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only formats as a low-end option.

Angels | Geovany Soto draws another start

Mon, 02 May 2016 12:50:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Geovany Soto is batting seventh against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Monday, May 2. C Carlos Perez is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Soto has started three of the past four games behind the dish for the Angels, and he has a rock-solid .344/.382/.656 slash line through 35 at-bats with six runs, three home runs and seven RBI to start the season. The veteran backstop appears to be earning more playing time, which makes Soto a potential add in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only formats.
