Astros | Jarred Cosart pushed back

Wed, 06 Aug 2014 13:55:46 -0700

Houston Astros SP Jarred Cosart (oblique) will have his next scheduled start Thursday, Aug. 7, pushed back due to an oblique injury. SP Brian Flynn will pitch the series finale instead. Cosart will instead make his next start Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries can be tricky for pitchers and usually require DL stints, so Cosart is by no means out of the woods yet for his next start. Flynn is one of the team's top pitching prospects and should be owned in all NL-only leagues. You can probably wait in deep mixed leagues, but he should at least be on your radar.

Marlins | Jacob Turner cut, Brian Flynn recalled

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 09:42:47 -0700

The Miami Marlins designated SP Jacob Turner for assignment Tuesday, Aug. 5, and recalled SP Brian Flynn from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Flynn, 24, is one of the team's top pitching prospects, and he made a short relief appearance back in June. It looks like he'll receive a chance to pitch out of the starting rotation this time, perhaps for the remainder of the season. He should be owned in all NL-only leagues immediately, and he could even be worth a roster spot in deep mixed leagues.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez to have TJS

Wed, 14 May 2014 09:18:04 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery by the end of this week, which will end his 2014 season.

Fantasy Tip: You can obviously drop Fernandez in redraft leagues. Keeper leaguers will be forced to hold Fernandez and deal with what could be mostly a lost season in 2015, as well. Anthony DeSclafini will fill the Fish's rotation spot initially, but prospects Brian Flynn and Andrew Heaney are the most alluring candidates to get some rotation time later this summer.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez expected to land on DL

Mon, 12 May 2014 14:34:26 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez (undisclosed) is expected to land on the disabled list with an unknown injury.

Fantasy Tip: The exact nature of the injury is a mystery right now. Fernandez is undergoing an MRI exam in L.A., and we should know more this evening or tomorrow morning. Of the options currently on the roster, Kevin Slowey or Brad Hand could enter the rotation to take Fernandez's spot. Down on the farm, prospect Andrew Heaney or Brian Flynn would cause the bigger stir in fantasy circles if they were to be brought up. Stay tuned.

Marlins | Jacob Turner guaranteed spot?

Wed, 12 Feb 2014 15:33:17 -0800

Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner is all but guaranteed a starting rotation spot this year. President of baseball operations Michael Hill mentions SPs Brad Hand, Brian Flynn and Tom Koehler as candidates to compete for the fifth and final rotation spot. SPs Andrew Heaney, Justin Nicolino, Adam Conley and Anthony DeSclafini will receive spring innings to prove themselves, but they'll likely start in the minors.
