Brewers | Jimmy Nelson picks up win

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 04:47:38 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson improved to 4-8 overall on Wednesday, June 24 with a 4-1 win over the New York Mets. He allowed two hits in eight innings to overcome his last two subpar outings.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) allowed seven runs and 10 hits over five innings in a loss to the Washington Nationals on June 13, then yielded three runs and a career-worst 11 hits over five innings against the Kansas City Royals. Nelson is still a matchup at best in FantasyScore formats, but it's nice to know he avoided getting off to a bad start.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson has struggled at home

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 13:15:17 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson is 0-3 with a 6.93 ERA in his last four starts at home. Against the New York Mets, who he faces Wednesday, June 24, he's 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two career starts. Nelson has allowed double-digit hits in back-to-back losses for the first time in 27 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is the very picture of a risk/reward play on FantasyScore. On the one hand, it's tough to go with a struggling pitcher in a hitter-friendly environment, but the Mets rank 28th in OPS against right-handed pitchers this year (.659).

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson crushed by St. Louis

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 18:09:02 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed seven runs on seven hits over five innings in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, June 3.

Fantasy Tip: To say Nelson ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has struggled mightily against St. Louis in his career is an understatement. Since last season, he has allowed 20 runs on 23 hits over 14 2/3 innings with losses in each of his four appearances versus the Cards.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson is scheduled to face the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, June 3. He is 0-3 with a 10.24 ERA in three career games against the Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players should avoid Nelson ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) for this extremely unfavorable matchup.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson pitches eight innings

Tue, 19 May 2015 20:25:21 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed one run on three hits in eight innings against the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, May 19. He struck out five batters and walked four in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has been a bit inconsistent in his starts this season but pitched well against the Tigers. Nelson is scheduled to pitch against the Atlanta Braves in his next start and could be a solid option on FantasyScore.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson giving up homers

Thu, 14 May 2015 05:06:36 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson has surrendered five home runs in his last two starts. Nelson gave up eight hits and four runs Wednesday, May 13, as he lost his second straight start in a 4-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) may be a bit overpriced for the moment, as his 1-4 record indicates problems. He has pitched better after the first inning in his recent starts, but the fact remains there are some issues. It's best to leave him alone as he works through them.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson wild in loss

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 22:52:36 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed seven earned runs, six hits and a career-high five walks while recording just seven outs in a loss Monday, April 27, against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Tip: It isn't a huge sample size, but Nelson is 1-0 with a 0.60 ERA in two starts at home with a .114 opponent batting average, and he is 0-2 with an 11.05 ERA in two road outings. His next scheduled start in Sunday at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, so FantasyScore owners would be well served to avoid him at $4,300 (or 8.6% of cap) until he starts to show more consistency on the road.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson dazzles in season debut

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 06:14:17 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson struck out nine batters over seven-scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, April 11. He allowed just two hits and two walks during the outing.

Fantasy Tip: It is nice to see Nelson ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) toss a quality outing after his weak spring. He has upside and stands to have a nice season, especially now that he has 14 starts at the highest level under his belt. Expect fewer peaks and valleys this season, too. Nelson faces the Pirates for his next start Friday, April 17.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson wins final spot

Sat, 04 Apr 2015 13:53:42 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson was named the team's fifth starter Saturday, April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson ($5,200, 10.4% of your cap) had a rough spring with a 6.23 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 13 innings. He only had one walk and has quite a bit of upside if he starts to miss bats. Monitor his first couple of starts before using him on FantasyScore.

Brewers | MIL still has faith in Jimmy Nelson

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 12:30:00 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson has struggled this spring, but he remains on track to be the No. 5 starter for the team this season, according to manager Ron Roenicke. Nelson has a 6.23 ERA in four outings during spring training and is allowing batters to hit .304 off him. The Brewers believe Nelson has the stuff to be successful in the major leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) will be in the starting rotation at the start of the season, but his performance will determine how long he has the job. Nelson likely will not be an option in mixed leagues but should be selected in all NL-only leagues. Owners on FantasyScore should wait to see him pitch a few games before considering him as a starting option.
