Phillies | Ryan Howard out Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 16:53:43 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is out of the lineup Tuesday, July 7, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. 1B Darin Ruf will start and hit fourth in the order against LHP Brett Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is hitting .395 through 42 plate appearances against lefties this season. Ruf has considerable upside while offering cap relief on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Domonic Brown recalled

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 16:31:28 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown was recalled from Class AAA Lehigh Valley Saturday, June 13. 1B/OF Darin Ruf was sent down to Lehigh Valley.

Fantasy Tip: Brown ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) hit .260-3-29 in 227 at-bats in the minors, which leaves very little optimism for a repeat of 2013's monstrous first half. Give him a few games before considering him for a low-end flyer on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Ryan Howard resting up

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 13:31:28 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Jeff Locke Friday, June 12. OF Darin Ruf is starting at first base and hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has tore up lefty pitchers this year to the tune of a .387/.429/.645 slash line with a 1.074 OPS and two of his three home runs. Even though lefty hitters have done more damage against Locke this year, oddly enough, Ruf profiles as an attractive deep sleeper tonight while hitting cleanup.

Phillies | Darin Ruf injured

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 15:17:00 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf (shoulder) drove his left shoulder into the wall during his team's game against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, June 7. Ruf remained in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) stayed in the contest, but it doesn't mean aftereffects won't kick in. Keep an eye on whether or not Ruf's shoulder gets sore or affects his ability to play.

Phillies | Ryan Howard not starting Saturday

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 10:53:50 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, June 6. 1B/OF Darin Ruf will play first base and bat cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is sitting out because the team is facing left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner, whom he has experienced little success against in his career. He should return to action Sunday, June 7, but remove him from all fantasy lineups this afternoon. Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is only hitting .222 through his first 90 at-bats this season and should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Phillies | Ryan Howard sitting out

Sun, 24 May 2015 10:07:59 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 24. 1B Darin Ruf will take his place in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has struggled against left-handed pitchers, so he receives a day off. Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is hitting .256 with five RBI this month but is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Phillies | No Ben Revere in lineup

Thu, 21 May 2015 09:17:45 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 21. OF Darin Ruf is starting in left field and hitting third in the batting order against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is an intriguing under-the-radar FantasyScore candidate today. He's hitting barely over .200 on the season, but he is 7-for-22 (.318) with two of his three home runs off lefties. De La Rosa has been much better in his career at hitter-friendly Coors Field, oddly enough, but he's also wildly inconsistent. Ruf could be a sneaky sleeper pick.

Phillies | Ryan Howard sitting

Sun, 17 May 2015 08:45:27 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard isn't in the lineup Sunday, May 17, against the Arizona Diamondbacks and RHP Josh Collmenter. 1B Darin Ruf will start at first and bat cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has hit just .132 off righties this season, in 57 plate appearances. FantasyScore owners need to ignore Ruf completely.

Phillies | Odubel Herrera not playing Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 11:22:15 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera isn't in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 13. OF Darin Ruf is starting in left field and hitting cleanup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is hitting only .188 (13-for-69) with two home runs and six RBI, although he is 6-for-18 (.333) with both of his dingers against southpaws in 2015. Still, Liriano is a nasty lefty arm that should give the weak-hitting Philly lineup trouble. He's also limited righties to a .112/.208/.224 slash line this year. Ruf is a weak play all things considered.

Phillies | Darin Ruf out of lineup Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 12:53:15 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf is not in the starting lineup for the second straight game Tuesday, May 12. OF Jeff Francoeur is in Ruf's place in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has had struggles against righthanded pitching recently. Ruf only has two hits in his last 20 at-bats and is hitting .140 against righties. Keep him seated for the time being.
