Red Sox | Brock Holt won't be rushed back

Wed, 25 May 2016 16:22:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt (concussion) isn't expected to be on the disabled list for long, but he won't return immediately to the Red Sox. Holt traveled back to Boston Wednesday, May 25, after two days of testing. Manager John Farrell said there is a detailed treatment plan in place for Holt, and he's still dealing with some symptoms. Holt's conditioning will begin Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: Holt had been platooning in left field and facing right-handed pitchers. A strong start in April quickly faded, and he's hitting .239 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 113 at-bats. It's unclear what Boston will do in left field with Blake Swihart splitting time with Chris Young when Holt is ready to return. It's entirely possible that Holt's fantasy value already peaked in 2016.

Red Sox | Brock Holt has mild concussion

Fri, 20 May 2016 13:49:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt (concussion) sustained whiplash diving for a ball while playing second base during the series against the Oakland Athletics last week. His concussion symptoms are on the mild end of the spectrum, but it was enough to warrant a stint on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Following a strong start, Holt has struggled and now sits with a .239/.310/.354 slash line. So, while his positional eligibility is a great bonus for lineup flexibility, those aren't numbers worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues. Blake Swihart projects to start against right-handed pitchers with Chris Young facing southpaws for the duration of Holt's absence.

Red Sox | Brock Holt to DL, Blake Swihart up

Fri, 20 May 2016 09:53:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt (concussion) was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list Friday, May 20, and C Blake Swihart was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket. Swihart has spent the last month at Pawtucket learning to play left field.

Fantasy Tip: Swihart hit .243 with a homer and eight RBI in 103 at-bats. He should see some time in left with Chris Young likely facing lefties. Because of Swihart's catcher eligibility, he has some value in AL-only formats and DFS if he's still in the catcher pool. Young pounds lefties and is a DFS option each time he faces one. Holt struggled the last few weeks, but he's worth stashing in AL-only and deeper leagues.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Brock Holt sitting

Wed, 18 May 2016 08:30:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez and OF Brock Holt are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 18, in the first game of a doubleheader. 3B Josh Rutledge is hitting sixth, and OF Chris Young is hitting eighth. C Ryan Hanigan is hitting ninth with C Christian Vazquez also resting.

Fantasy Tip: Young is only worth using against lefties, which Ian Kennedy is not. Rutledge is 4-for- 9 (.444) the last week and might be worth a basement flyer. Hanigan isn't worth starting in DFS.

Red Sox | Brock Holt with day off

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 12:28:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B/OF Brock Holt is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. OF Chris Young is starting in left field and is hitting seventh against Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin.

Fantasy Tip: With so few games today, Young is worth a look as a low-priced daily flier, but his upside is limited facing a righty and not a lefty. In his career, Young has hit just .224 against righties.

Red Sox | Brock Holt continues to collect RBIs

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 22:56:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt went 1-for-3 with a walk, run scored and RBI Sunday, April 24, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Holt has managed to post an RBI in four straight games, and he has 12 RBIs in 14 games this season. With a .292 average (14-for-48) with two doubles, two homers, 12 RBIs and two steals, he has emerged as a must-start in all fantasy formats and DFS play.

Red Sox | Brock Holt starting at shortstop

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:06:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox INF/OF Brock Holt is batting sixth and starting at shortstop against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Saturday, April 23. SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) is out of the lineup after he was hit in the wrist area by a pitch Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: The versatile Holt has been serving primarily as Boston's left fielder but has also seen action at shortstop in 2016. He would likely remain at the position if Bogaerts is forced to miss an extended period of time. Holt is batting .286 with two home runs and 10 RBI through his first 42 at-bats and makes a decent option in daily fantasy games this afternoon.

Red Sox | Brock Holt appears at SS again

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:49:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt finished up at shortstop Friday, April 22, against the Houston Astros after SS Xander Bogaerts (wrist) checked out early.

Fantasy Tip: Holt saw a few games at shortstop last season, and might be available there in fantasy leagues with lax eligibility requirements. For most others, he has two games there this season and might become eligible there soon, adding to his fantasy appeal.

Red Sox | Brock Holt fills in at shortstop

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:24:50 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt moved from left field to shortstop in the game Wednesday, April 20, against the Tampa Bay Rays once SS Xavier Bogaerts (quadriceps) left with a strained quadriceps.

Fantasy Tip: Holt could see time at shortstop if Bogaerts is forced to miss playing time. Either way, Holt will be in the lineup and he remains a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues and some deeper mixed formats.

Red Sox | Three BOS regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 08:16:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Brock Holt and C Christian Vazquez are out of the starting lineup versus Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Sunday, April 17. OF Chris Young will play left field and bat sixth, C Ryan Hanigan will bat eighth and 2B Marco Hernandez will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Young and Hanigan have combined to go 1-for-14 at the dish this year and Hernandez will be making his MLB debut this afternoon. None of these players are recommended options for daily fantasy games today.
