Rockies | Colorado not naming closer

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 10:09:22 -0700

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss remains non-committal on a closer heading into the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jake McGee is the favorite for the closing job after the Rockies traded for him this offseason, but Jason Motte and Justin Miller could also factor in. If you're speculating for your third fantasy reliever, go with McGee, but Motte might be worth a pickup in deeper leagues, too.

Rockies | Troy Tulowitzki could play Monday

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 12:36:39 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki (hip) could make his spring training debut against the Cincinnati Reds Monday, March 9. Manager Walt Weiss said a final decision would be made after he completes a workout Sunday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Given the lack of quality shortstops available in fantasy baseball, Tulowitzki is likely to be a first-round draft pick despite his recent injury history. If he returns to action Monday, it would be one week sooner than initially anticipated.

Rockies | COL will not carry three catchers on roster

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 04:43:58 -0800

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss told media there will not be three catchers on his 25-man roster in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: The Rockies have already experimented with Wilin Rosario at first base and in the outfield, so it is possible Rosario could be odd man out and move to another position. Rosario's fantasy value increases a bit if he lands the No. 2 catching job, as he would likely be used against left-handed pitching (30 homers in 357 at-bats).

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez has swollen finger

Fri, 02 May 2014 01:18:38 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger), who left the game Thursday, May 1, against the New York Mets with a strained left index finger bruise in the fourth inning, was removed as a precaution by manager Walt Weiss. Gonzalez said his finger swelled after a foul ball during a first inning at-bat, one that ended with him homering to left field. Gonzalez was hampered last season by a right middle finger injury but he believes it is not a ligament issue like last season. Gonzalez is day to day but Weiss believes he will not miss a lot of time.
