Reds | Anthony DeSclafani has strong outing

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 13:35:11 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani gave up five singles, struck out five, and didn't allow a runner to reach second base Sunday, June 26, in a 3-0 shutout of the San Diego Padres. DeSclafani also hit an RBI single in the sixth inning off Padres SP Luis Perdomo,

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani has been strong in his return from oblique problems that cost him the first two months of the season. The Reds are still a subpar team, however, so analyze how DeSclafani does against certain squads before putting him in your DFS lineup.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani cruises to first win

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 21:59:47 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani allowed a two-run home run to Texas Rangers INF Jurickson Profar but little else on Tuesday, June 21. DeSclafani yielded five hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings for his first victory since Sept. 12, 2015.

Fantasy Tip: This was easily the best of DeSclafani's three starts this season since coming off the disabled list due to oblique strain. The 26-year-old New Jersey native has a tidy 2.30 ERA so far, although his 1.66 WHIP suggests he is still rounding into form. DeSclafani doesn't figure to be a must-start anytime soon, but he should be able to hold his own a back-end starter in most mixed leagues.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani has short night

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 22:48:38 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani gave up four runs -- one earned -- and six hits in 2 2/3 innings of work against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was victimized by Joey Votto's error, but clearly he wasn't sharp as he needed 76 pitches to record eight outs. It was a disappointing outing after he shut down Oakland in his 2016 debut, and he'll get tested next time out when he goes against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. His appeal lies in NL-only setups for now.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani solid in 2016 debut

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 18:48:03 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani allowed one run on eight hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Oakland Athletics Friday, June 10, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was making his first start of 2016 after being sidelined with a strained left oblique and proved that he was both healthy and effective in Friday's outing. He has a very favorable matchup for his next scheduled start versus the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, June 15, making him a recommended option for DFS contests.

Reds | Billy Hamilton placed on concussion DL

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 15:01:51 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton (concussion) was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list Friday, June 10. In a corresponding move, SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) was activated from the disabled list to start against the Oakland Athletics Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's speed is worth stashing in all fantasy formats, but know, concussions can be finicky and linger. Stay tuned for updates. Take a wait-and-see approach with DeSclafani in all fantasy formats before starting him, and he likely should only be owned in deep mixed and NL-only setups.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani likely for Friday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 23:31:41 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) threw in the bullpen Tuesday, June 7, and he's on track to make his season debut Friday, June 10, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani's numbers last year were nothing to write home about, but he was spectacular last April. He went 2-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 21 K's in 26 innings. He didn't have an ERA under four after that. He's a depth option in NL-only leagues for now, but keep that April split in the back of your mind.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani makes rehab start

Wed, 25 May 2016 22:07:03 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) made a rehab start on Wednesday, May 25, for Class AAA Louisville. In three innings of work, DeSclafani allowed three runs on three hits. He registered a pair of strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani is expected to return by mid-June, and he should immediately bolster a starting rotation that ranks 25th in the majors in ERA (4.79). The right-hander isn't a star, but he did rack up 151 K's last year -- his first full season in the majors. He's worth stashing in NL-only and deep mixed formats.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani rehab update

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:26:39 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will make a rehab start for Class AAA Louisville Wednesday, May 25, according to manager Bryan Price.

Fantasy Tip: If all goes well, DeSclafani could be back with the parent club in two to three weeks, so he should remain stashed in NL-only and deep mixed formats. However, DFS players should give him one or two starts after he is activated before depending on him again.

Reds | Three rehab starts for Anthony DeSclafani

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:48:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will probably make three rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Barring a setback, DeSclafani is likely two to three weeks away from returning to the mound for the Reds. He is a worthy stash in deep mixed and NL-only league because of the improvement he made in the strikeout column in the second half last year (8.3 K/9). However, you'll want to keep expectations in check and potentially even take a wait-and-see approach before starting him, especially in daily contests. Stay tuned for updates.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani talks oblique injury

Wed, 18 May 2016 16:16:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) threw a bullpen session and two, 20-pitch simulated innings Tuesday, May 17, and said he felt solid.

"I'm not even thinking about the oblique and that's a good thing," DeSclafani said. "I warm up and then I throw and I'm not even concerned that it is going to bother me, and I think that's a good sign that it is healed up."

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani is worth stashing in NL-only formats and deeper mixed leagues. His 8.3 K/9 through 14 second-half starts last year made the 26-year-old righty a late-round flier this spring, and once he proves his health, he could be a factor in the majority of seasonal leagues. Continue to check back for updates on his progress and for a more concrete return timeline.
