The Minnesota Twins could option C Josmil Pinto to Triple-A Rochester so that he can receive more consistent playing time and work on his defense at catcher. With the club signing DH Kendrys Morales, Pinto doesn't have a clear path to playing time. Pinto had started 19 games at designated hitter and had only 18 starts at catcher, because he's had problems on defense this year, having yet to throw out a base stealer in 16 tries. He's also made five errors. Cs Eric Fryer or Chris Herrmann could be called up to replace Pinto as the backup catcher. Pinto has a slash line of .200/.227/.329 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 23 games since May 1.
Fantasy Tip: Since the move isn't official yet, don't cut Pinto from your roster just yet, but it's looking like you'll need to go in a different direction if you've been riding him in deep mixed or two-catcher leagues.

The Minnesota Twins have reportedly agreed to terms with free-agent 1B/DH Kendrys Morales (Mariners).
Fantasy Tip: Morales, who hit 23 homers and drove in 77 runs last year, should be added in all fantasy formats immediately. This signing appears to be bad news for OF Jason Kubel, who has struggled mightily at the plate for most of the season, as well as C Josmil Pinto, who had been getting most of the playing time at designated hitter prior to the signing of Morales.

Minnesota Twins C Josmil Pinto entered the game Monday, May 5, against the Cleveland Indians hitless in the month of May, and manager Ron Gardenhire feels Pinto has been overthinking things. "Maybe he's trying to be too professional of a hitter...trying to do too many things, take all these pitches, draw walks," Gardenhire said. "I think they start reading how good we're taking walks and sometimes they forget you got to hit it."

Minnesota Twins C Josmil Pinto made the roster as a backup to C Kurt Suzuki. Pinto had a slash line of .342/.398/.566 with four home runs, five doubles and 12 RBIs in 21 games last year as a September call-up. The Twins think it'll be beneficial for Pinto to work with Suzuki and bench coach Terry Steinbach on his game-calling and defensive skills.
Fantasy Tip: Pinto may be worth stashing in AL-only leagues that are deep and require two starting catchers. Otherwise, he's unlikely to see enough time to be very valuable.

The Minnesota Twins will hold C Josmil Pinto (back) out of spring action until he can get through drills without any problems. He's swinging a bat and catching bullpens but hasn't gotten through batting practice or a full day of workouts with a sore back. "If it was during the season I would imagine he would be out there no matter what," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Here in spring training there's no reason. But like any player who wants to play, they don't want to see the trainers."
