Mariners | Erasmo Ramirez being skipped

Wed, 23 Apr 2014 10:49:40 -0700

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon admits that the team is considering alternatives in the starting rotation to SP Erasmo Ramirez. SP Brandon Maurer will start in Ramirez's place Sunday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez is off to a rough start, and the long ball has killed him this year so far. If you own him in an AL-only league, it's time to start moving in another direction, at least for now.

Mariners | Brandon Maurer to start Sunday

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 12:33:51 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Brandon Maurer will be recalled from the minors to start Sunday, April 20, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Look to add Maurer in AL-only leagues if you have pitching needs. Maurer could be in the rotation for only a couple of weeks, however, with Hisashi Iwakuma's (finger) return looming.

Mariners | Brandon Maurer likely to join rotation

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:42:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Brandon Maurer is the likely candidate to join the team's starting rotation starting against the Miami Marlins Sunday, April 20. SP Anthony Fernandez threw 83 pitches in his outing for Triple-A Tacoma Wednesday, April 16. Maurer has allowed two earned runs and five hits in 8 1/3 innings with Tacoma with 17 strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Maurer showed some progress last fall after being rushed to the major earlier in the year. Target him in AL-only leagues if you're in need of pitching help. It looks like Maurer could have a decent run in the rotation if he performs well.

Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said the team's starter Sunday, April 20, "will probably be one of our guys internally," which means the candidates could be SPs Brandon Maurer or Anthony Fernandez.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker likely will not be ready for season

Sat, 01 Mar 2014 09:35:38 -0800

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) likely will begin the regular season on the disabled list because of his injured shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Owners can move him down in their rankings because he likely will miss some starts during the regular season. Erasmo Ramirez and Brandon Maurer likely will compete for his spot in the starting rotation but likely will only be options in AL-only leagues.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker shut down

Fri, 28 Feb 2014 11:45:49 -0800

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) has been shut down for at least a week after tests showed inflammation in the bursa sac of his right shoulder. Walker flew to Los Angeles Friday, Feb. 28, to have a second opinion on his sore right shoulder. "I think it's just normal throwing, what most pitchers experience at some point," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "The MRIs were clean and were good. There was no structural damage with this guy so everything is fine from that standpoint."

Fantasy Tip: There is a very realistic chance now that Walker isn't ready for the start of the regular season, and the M's will likely be cautious with their top pitching prospect. As a result, Erasmo Ramirez and Brandon Maurer will likely battle for the final rotation spot if Walker isn't ready. Ramirez has more upside and probably a leg up in the competiton for those looking for under-the-radar arms in AL leagues.
