San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) has not been cleared to practice yet due to lingering concerns about his surgically repaired right knee. However, he appears close to joining his teammates.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore is unlikely to play in the preseason this year. RBs Carlos Hyde and Jewel Hampton have both looked good so far during training camp. The injuries to RBs Kendall Hunter (knee) and LaMichael James (elbow) have left the team thin at the running back position. RB Marcus Lattimore isn't practicing yet due to physical limitations and not the mental side of his recovery from a significant knee injury in college.
Fantasy Tip: The Niners have even more reason to try to keep Gore healthy heading into the regular season now. With Hunter out for the year, Hyde's price will rise drastically, likely making him somewhat overvalued as a handcuff to Gore.

San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) may be on the practice field sooner rather than later, according to a source. The team is being cautious with Lattimore, but he is reportedly fine.
Fantasy Tip: Even if he does practice, Lattimore still has RBs Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde and Kendall Hunter to contend with. His only value is in dynasty leagues at this point.

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James could have trouble making the roster this year, according to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. Williamson believes RB Frank Gore, RB Carlos Hyde, RB Marcus Lattimore, RB Kendall Hunter and FB Bruce Miller will make the roster.

San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) will start training camp on the non-football injury list as he continues to rehabilitate his knee.
Thu, 26 Jun 2014 11:49:20 -0700
San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) is not an absolute lock to make roster because he is coming of such a severe knee injury and there are so many unknowns before he takes a hit. Lattimore looked steady fielding punts during the offseason program so his spot is looking more secure than it was a month ago.

The San Francisco 49ers may consider RB Kendall Hunter as their No. 2 running back at this point, because they know he does well in pass protection and blitz pickup. The team has not seen RB Carlos Hyde and RB Marcus Lattimore in pads at this point and is not sure about their pass protection skills.

San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) has been progressing on a daily basis. Lattimore recently said he feels like he's gaining back his field vision, but admitted that he'll need to take some hits and get back up before he's ready to play again. Lattimore added that his ultimate goal is to be the team's starting running back, though he admits taking over Frank Gore's job is "the hardest thing in the world." Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Lattimore is becoming more confident and adding strength, "which is translating into more burst, quicker turnover with his leg cycle."
Fantasy Tip: Lattimore is a far cry away from fantasy relevance at this point with Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, Carlos Hyde and LaMichael James all in the mix. He's best left undrafted in redraft leagues.
Wed, 18 Jun 2014 15:30:20 -0700
San Francisco 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore brings a slashing style to the team's running back corps, according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman. "And Marcus is right on track. He brings a little bit more of a slashing style. So, very different styles but like what we see out of both of them. And just need to continue those guys on their tracks.
Fantasy Tip: Currently, Lattimore is buried on the depth chart behind Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, Carlos Hyde and LaMichael James. A lot needs to go his way to fall into fantasy relevance, but the fact that he provides a change of pace to the other backs is good news. Leave him to the waiver wire to start the year.

ESPN.com's Bill Williamson thinks San Francisco 49ers rookie RB Carlos Hyde will see more opportunities for carries than RB Marcus Lattimore (knee), who is recovering from a major knee injury. The Niners are expected to be cautious with Lattimore.
Fantasy Tip: While Frank Gore is nearing the end of his career and will need to be spelled much more often, don't forget that Kendall Hunter is still on roster and currently ahead of Hyde on the depth chart. Hyde could figure into the team's plans, but unless injuries occur ahead of him, he might not be a major factor.
