Bills | EJ Manuel decision up in air

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 14:46:31 -0700

The Buffalo Bills haven't decided whether to pick up the option for QB EJ Manuel, according to general manager Doug Whaley. The deadline for Manuel's fifth-year option is in May, and it would likely be prohibitive for the Bills to keep him.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor's status unknown

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 09:00:07 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor's (chest) availability for Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs is unknown, but head coach Rex Ryan hopes his quarterback will be available. Ryan said he has "no idea" if Taylor will be ready. QB EJ Manuel briefly warmed up on the sidelines in the Week 11 loss to the New England Patriots Monday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) looked to be in a considerable amount of pain during the Monday night game, but he never missed a snap. You'll need to watch his practice status this week. The Chiefs defense has stiffened up in recent weeks, so Taylor won't necessarily be an attractive sleeper pick at QB, especially if he's not 100%.

Bills | EJ Manuel to remain backup in Buffalo

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 17:55:55 -0800

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said QB EJ Manuel is still the team's second-string quarterback, even though he was inactive for Week 10's game against the New York Jets. According to Ryan, QB Josh Johnson served as the backup to QB Tyrod Taylor because the Bills had a short week to prepare for the game and Johnson had a better grasp of the game plan as a result of being able to spend more time with offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was not needed in the Jets game, so it turned out to be a moot point. Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) should remain the Bills' No. 2 quarterback for the remainder of the season and would not be a great FantasyScore option if he receives any starts down the line.

Bills | EJ Manuel inactive Thursday

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 16:14:54 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel was a healthy inactive in Week 10 against the New York Jets Thursday, Nov. 12. QB Josh Johnson will serve as the backup to QB Tyrod Taylor. Johnson is familiar with offensive coordinator Greg Roman's playbook after having played for him in the 2012 and 2014 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. It's unknown if Manuel will permanently move to the third-string quarterback.

Bills | Unlikely to sign Ryan Mallett

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 09:32:16 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (Texans) could have a suitor in the Buffalo Bills, but it's unlikely that they'd sign him. QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) is expected to be back after the bye week, and Buffalo isn't believed to be looking to replace QB EJ Manuel. Also, QB Josh Johnson is another option for the Bills, and he has knowledge of offensive coordinator Greg Roman's system.

Bills | EJ Manuel has coach's confidence

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 22:15:34 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel has the confidence of head coach Rex Ryan as his No. 2 quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) was a bit inconsistent in the team's loss against Jacksonville, subbing for the injured Tyrod Taylor. If he should start again he shouldn't be trusted in FantasyScore.

Bills | EJ Manuel has up and down game

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 11:31:39 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel went 24-for-42 for 298 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also lost a fumble in the game and two of his turnovers resulted in touchdowns for the Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel was filling in for Tyrod Taylor who was not able to play because of a knee injury, but Manuel will be going back to the bench since Taylor should be ready to play after the Week 8 bye. Taylor has played well at times this season but should be a starting option against certain opponents.

Bills | OC confident in EJ Manuel

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 09:46:34 -0700

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman has full confidence in QB EJ Manuel and won't rule out that he could take the starting quarterback job from QB Tyrod Taylor if he lights it up in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. "We have full confidence in EJ and we love the skill set. He's doing really good in his preparation. I really think he's growing as a professional in how he prepares week to week and I think that will really serve him well moving forward," Roman said. Roman also said he thinks Manuel can still develop into an elite quarterback. The Bills have some pressure to find out how good Manuel can be after he was a first-round pick, Roman admitted.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) will start again for the injured Taylor this weekend, but the Bills are also missing Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin, so choosing Manuel as a deep sleeper isn't a smart move on FantasyScore.
