Bengals | Giovani Bernard leads explosive duo

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 20:07:16 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard is on pace for 328 carries, while rookie RB Jeremy Hill is ticketed for 152 for a total of 480. That would be the most by two Bengals backs in a single season, shattering the previous record of 405, set in 2000. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson isn't estimating how many carries each will get on a given day, and said Wednesday, Sept. 17, that is varies from series to series. He calls plays on the sidelines rather than up in the booth so he can sense the ebb and flow of the game. "It's the way things unfold. But Gio is the starting tailback on this football team. So at the end of the day, he's going to get some chances that maybe everybody else doesn't get until he proves he can't or the other guy proves that he's better," Jackson said.

Fantasy Tip: Bernard is the lead dog in a talented backfield, a problem Cincinnati is likely happy to have. Bernard ($7900 or 15.8 percent of salary) will cost you a pretty penny, but he is also averaging 22.5 fantasy points per game as opposed to Hill ($5500 or 11.0 percent of salary), but just 9.8 fantasy points per game. Bernard is the better value, even at a more expensive price.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill sees limited work

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 08:50:21 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill only played 10 offensive snaps in Week 1. RB Giovani Bernard played 57 snaps in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Hill was expected to be used more and could be in the future. However, he's a questionable flex option at this point. Bernard is a mid-to-low RB1 option at the right price on FantasyScore.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard to be fed more

Thu, 04 Sep 2014 07:18:29 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard will likely see more touches than RB Jeremy Hill in Week 1, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that this question was even asked bodes well for Hill. Bernard checks in at $6,700 on FantasyScore as a weak RB1 this weekend in Baltimore. Hill is priced at $4,300, and he is an interesting flex option for bargain shoppers this week.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill could have big role in running game

Wed, 16 Jul 2014 11:20:34 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill could split carries with RB Giovani Bernard this upcoming season and receive over 200 carries, in the opinion of Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Hill will have a solid role in the offense even though he will not be a starter. Most owners should view Hill as more of No. 4 running back with upside entering drafts, but Hill will have more value than just a handcuff to Bernard.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard to be used early and often

Wed, 16 Jul 2014 05:45:10 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Bernard is a good RB2 in standard formats and could creep into RB1 status in PPR leagues.

Bengals | Want ball-possession offense

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 05:32:43 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals beat writer Geoff Hobson believes Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson wants to have a more ball-possession offense that runs it more but sets up more explosive passes efficiently. That would mean fewer pass plays, but more potential big plays off of play-action.

Fantasy Tip: Giovani Bernard is going to have to prove that he can run the ball effectively 15-20 times in order for the play-action to work. Jeremy Hill will also be a factor in third-and-short situations that could free up A.J. Green and Marvin Jones downfield. Andy Dalton looks to be in optimal fantasy position this year in his contract year as a low-range QB1.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard, Jeremy Hill could play together

Mon, 09 Jun 2014 16:04:20 -0700

The Cincinnati Bengals are playing with the idea of using RBs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill on the field at the same time. Both running backs have good hands out of the backfield and will present defenses with problems.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill fits well

Tue, 27 May 2014 07:02:43 -0700

The Cincinnati Bengals like the way RB Jeremy Hill ran against eight- and nine-man boxes in college. He'll complement Giovani Bernard in that regard.

Fantasy Tip: Hill is a nice late-round flier and could make an impact in TD-heavy leagues.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard likely to see time in slot

Sat, 24 May 2014 20:33:07 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard is expected to see more time in the slot this season following the departure of WR Andrew Hawkins (Browns). Bernard could also be flanked out wide on occasion, tossing a screen to him while pulling a guard or tackle to create a nightmare scenario for a defensive back trying to find the elusive back behind a big body.

Fantasy Tip: Bernard should be a beast in points-per-receptions (PPR) leagues for fantasy owners, and if veteran BenJarvus Green-Ellis is jettisoned, Bernard could flirt with 1,000 rushing yards. He'll be a tremendous RB1 in PPR leagues, and a solid RB2 or flex play in standard formats.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard could be more involved as receiver

Thu, 22 May 2014 17:40:22 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals running backs coach Kyle Caskey indicated the team would like to get RB Giovani Bernard more involved in the passing game this upcoming season. "We want to do more with him because he can do that," Caskey said. "It's not just put him in the slot. We want him everywhere on the field. Make people guess where's he at. You have to make a decision to either play the run or play the pass. What do you do when he's on the field? He's a lot like [Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush] where you have to be aware at all times."

Fantasy Tip: It appears Bernard will have a big role in the offense in 2014, which will increase his fantasy value. He should be considered a starting running back in all fantasy leagues this upcoming season.
