Jets | Geno Smith has high opinion of his play

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 19:31:37 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith said Tuesday, Dec. 9, that he believes he has shown flashes of being a "Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback" this season. "But what we're looking for is consistency. The best teams have consistent quarterback play and I realize that and that's truly what I want to show the fans and everyone outside the building," Smith said. Smith has played 27 career games, and just six have ended without him throwing an interception. Nearly half of his games have ended with a passer rating below 70.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has only thrown one touchdown in his last three games, which does not make him a good option for fantasy owners. Smith only costs $3,800 on FantasyScore, but owners should be able to find better options.

Jets | Geno Smith to remain starter

Tue, 02 Dec 2014 16:50:13 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith will remain the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Rex Ryan, despite his dismal and mundane performance Monday night against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has not been startable all season and remains that way, especially after going just 6-for-13 in Week 13.

Jets | Geno Smith avoided in game plan

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 20:43:45 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith attempted just 13 passes in the team's 16-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins Monday, Dec. 1, finishing with 65 yards and an interception.

Fantasy Tip: Smith wasn't a viable fantasy option even after reclaiming the starting job, but the team's game plan Monday was an admission that the coaching staff has zero trust in the quarterback.

Jets | Geno Smith expected to keep job

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 11:58:34 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is expected to be the starting quarterback for the remaining games this season, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has not played well this season, but the team likely wants to see what Smith can do during the final games of the season. Smith likely will not be a good option to start on FantasyScore in any remaining week.

Jets | Geno Smith to start in Week 13

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 09:13:30 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith will return to the starting quarterback role in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins, after QB Michael Vick saw only three starts. The feeling around the team is that general manager John Idzik insisted that head coach Rex Ryan start Smith over Vick. "The main factor is you want to give your guys a chance to win the game," Ryan said. "That's the No. 1 factor you look into. But that's what we did. We feel good. Geno last time out had a good game against Miami (in Week 17 last season)."

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($3,700) was just as bad as Vick earlier in the year before he was benched. For the most part, the Dolphins have held opposing quarterbacks in check this year, so it's best to avoid Smith at all costs at FantasyScore.

Jets | Coaches told Geno Smith where to throw

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 06:42:07 -0800

The New York Jets fear QB Geno Smith's growth was stunted by coaches because they dictated his reads. "Usually a quarterback is able to drop back, go through his reads then deliver the ball, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said. "I am told that Smith was informed of his reads, told, 'You need to throw the ball here on certain plays.' The most egregious example came on an interception on a pass intended for Percy Harvin that Stephon Gilmore, the Bills corner, picked off. Smith was told: 'This is where you need to throw the ball.' And obviously, for a quarterback who is now taking a breather last game and this game, may have hurt his development a little bit."

Jets | Geno Smith to serve as backup

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 13:50:51 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (shoulder) has improved enough that he'll serve as the backup to QB Michael Vick in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It'll be the first time that Smith will serve as a healthy backup in his short career. QB Matt Simms will remain on the active roster, but he'll be inactive against the Steelers.
