Steelers | Le'Veon Bell likely to be tagged

Tue, 20 Feb 2018 13:00:33 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell is expected to receive the franchise tag again this offseason. That tag is worth $14.5 million. He and the Steelers would still be able to accomplish a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: Bell looks to be the highest-paid running back in the NFL if/when that long-term contract is reached. The bottom line is that Pittsburgh isn't going to let Bell hit the free-agent market. Suffice it to say Bell is arguably the player to select with the No. 1 overall pick in redraft leagues.

Steelers | Pittsburgh optimistic about Le'Veon Bell

Thu, 15 Feb 2018 09:32:43 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell and the Steelers have been in talks about a potential long-term contract and general manager Kevin Colbert is optimistic that a deal will come to fruition. Colbert said Pittsburgh wants to keep Bell for the rest of his career if possible, but using the franchise tag on Bell again has not been ruled out.

Fantasy Tip: Who knows how long negotiations will take or if Bell will hold out if he is tagged? Both sides want a long-term deal, but that's easier said than done. Assuming he is retained by the Steelers, Bell is arguably the No. 1 fantasy player in all formats.

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell said at this point he plans to be at training camp on time next season.

Steelers | Guaranteed money important to Le'Veon Bell

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 14:24:00 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell said the guaranteed money is the most important thing for him in negotiations with the Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has said the two sides are closer to an agreement than last season, so owners should keep an eye on the situation over the next few weeks. Bell likely will be with the Steelers for at least one more season and likely will be an option for the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts next season.

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 09:58:59 -0800

Impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell (Steelers) was asked on Twitter if he would sign with the New York Jets for $60 million, and Bell's response was, "that ain't enough to come run with the Jets..." For perspective, Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's five-year, $41.25 million extension made him the highest-paid back in football.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell says team has timeframe on deal

Thu, 25 Jan 2018 14:09:43 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said the Steelers have set an artificial deadline for the two sides to reach a long-term agreement. The Steelers would like an agreement before Feb. 20, which is the first day that teams can place the franchise tag on a player. Bell said the two sides could continue to negotiate after that date if nothing is agreed to in the next few weeks.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that the Steelers and Bell have made progress in contract talks and would have a little less than a month to agree to terms. Bell likely will be with the Steelers for at least one more season and will be a candidate for the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts in 2018.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell in talks with Steelers

Wed, 24 Jan 2018 10:12:33 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell has already been given a contract extension offer. Bell said both parties are a lot closer than last year's extension efforts.

Fantasy Tip: Bell would be the top dog in this offseason's free-agent market, but it looks like the Steelers will be able to retain their star running back. As long as Bell avoids off-field trouble and stays healthy, he's arguably the best fantasy football player in the world.

Raiders | Oakland to target Le'Veon Bell?

Mon, 22 Jan 2018 20:45:46 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell could be a target for the Oakland Raiders, according to The MMQB's Peter King.

Fantasy Tip: While Bell has threatened to sit out or even retire if the Steelers placed the franchise tag on him again, it seems highly unlikely Pittsburgh will simply let him walk. With that said, any negotiation the Steelers have with Bell is going to be tricky given his off-field issues. Furthermore, any other team interested in him needs to figure out how long and how much it wants to invest into a back coming off a season with 400-plus touches. Regardless of where he lands, he will remain an elite fantasy RB1.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell was late for walkthrough

Fri, 19 Jan 2018 06:51:31 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell showed up five minutes before the walkthrough ended Saturday, Jan. 13, before the Steelers were beaten by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He and a coach were also late to report to the stadium before the game.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is supremely talented, but there is luggage to tote with that designer bag. He could see the franchise tag as a free agent, but he'll be an elite RB1 wherever he plays.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell wants to remain in Pittsburgh

Mon, 15 Jan 2018 23:32:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said he "of course" would want to remain in Pittsburgh next season and that he would "never want to leave this city," but "circumstances and things like that" would be the reason if he doesn't continue his tenure with the Steelers in 2018.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has already gone on record of saying that he would consider sitting out next year or possibly even retiring if the club decides to place the franchise tag on him, but it seems more likely than not that the two sides will get a deal done. As long as he's back next year, Bell should continue to be one of the first guys taken off the board in all fantasy drafts.

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 13:32:18 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed for 67 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries in the Divisional Round playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, Jan. 14. He also caught nine passes for 88 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is expected to receive the franchise tag this offseason but said he will consider sitting out if he is tagged, so owners will need to monitor the situation. Bell will be a No. 1 fantasy running back as long as he plays in 2018.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell not interested in tag

Thu, 11 Jan 2018 13:44:21 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said he would consider sitting out the 2018 season or possibility retiring if the Steelers decide to place the franchise tag on him this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Bell received the franchise tag last offseason and the two sides were not able to reach an agreement on a long-term deal. Owners will need to monitor the situation during the offseason to see if Bell receives a new deal. He is a No. 1 fantasy running back whenever he is on the field.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell won't play in Week 17

Sun, 31 Dec 2017 05:56:39 -0800

Confirming a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (rest) will not play in Week 17's game against the Cleveland Browns, according to multiple sources informed of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: OT Marcus Gilbert said earlier in the week that Bell wouldn't be playing in the regular-season finale, so this news should come as little surprise to anyone. RBs Fitzgerald Toussaint and Stevan Ridley will split carries in Bell's absence but neither player is a great fantasy option despite the opponent.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell misses practice

Fri, 29 Dec 2017 12:26:29 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (non-injury) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 29, but is not on the injury report for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation because there is a chance that Bell does not play this week. He is a No. 1 fantasy running back if he is active for the game. Fitzgerald Toussaint and Stevan Ridley would probably share playing time if Bell sits out, but neither is a great fantasy option.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell could sit finale

Thu, 28 Dec 2017 18:29:02 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell won't play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, according to OT Marcus Gilbert.

Fantasy Tip: There has been no official word on Bell's status for the regular season finale, but even if Gilbert is wrong, there is a good chance Bell plays limited snaps. Tread lightly when it comes to using Bell this weekend.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell listed as limited

Thu, 28 Dec 2017 13:14:14 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (non-injury) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has been one of the best fantasy options this season and is a must-start option in all fantasy leagues. Owners may want to lower their expectations a bit because Bell could be taken out of the game in the second half if the Steelers have a big lead.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell runs for 117 yards, TD

Sun, 17 Dec 2017 20:51:58 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell carried 24 times for 117 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the New England Patriots and he added five receptions for 48 yards on his six targets.

Fantasy Tip: Bell seemed to benefit once Antonio Brown left the game due to injury, as he was the guy carrying a bigger load down the stretch and in the pass game in the second half. Bell, Martavis Bryant and JuJu Smith-Schuster will have to pick up the slack in at least the final two regular season games with Brown on the shelf.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell finishes strong

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 20:56:39 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) rushed 13 times for 48 yards and two touchdowns in Week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens and he added nine grabs for 77 yards and a score on 10 targets. He left the game briefly to have his right knee checked out, but he was fine and able to finish strong.

Fantasy Tip: Bell was a beast for his fantasy owners, and it came at the perfect time in a playoff game for some. He'll look to keep it rolling into Week 15 in a key showdown against the New England Patriots.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell seeing incredible usage

Tue, 05 Dec 2017 11:59:20 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell has been on the field for more than 91% of the Steelers' offensive plays this year. That's 11% more than the next highest running back.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is the jack of all trades, the Swiss army knife -- for the Steelers. He has been throughout his career. As long as he can handle that many snaps and that much contact, Pittsburgh won't stop using him that much. It could have more of an impact as Bell's career progresses, but for now he is a fantasy cornerstone.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell snaps scoring drought

Mon, 04 Dec 2017 22:19:23 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell found the end zone for the first time in four games, as he hauled in a receiving touchdown in the team's Week 13 victory Monday, Dec. 4, opposite the Cincinnati Bengals. Overall, he rushed for 76 yards on 18 carries and added 106 yards on five receptions.

Fantasy Tip: The score was notably Bell's first touchdown through the air of the campaign. While the fifth-year pro's touchdown drought was a little concerning, he's at least been racking up boatloads of yards the whole time, as this was his fourth straight game having topped 100 yards from scrimmage. Hopefully he can continue to cash in on his RB1 value when it matters most.

Steelers | Career high for Le'Veon Bell

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 20:56:38 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed 20 times for 95 yards in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers and he added a career-high 12 receptions for 88 yards on 14 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Bell started out quite slow earlier this season and his fantasy owners were wary, but this is the guy you spent that early-round pick on. He is amazingly productive from a fantasy perspective when locked in.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell tops 100 total yards

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 21:16:51 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell carried the ball 12 times for 46 yards and caught nine passes (on 11 targets) for 57 yards in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: Facing a Titans defense that came in ranked sixth against the run, the Steelers put the game on Big Ben with Roethlisberger throwing 45 passes to Bell's 12 carries. The result was Bell's second-lowest rushing total of the year -- he did have an apparent touchdown overturned on replay -- though he still topped 100 total yards for the fifth time in seven games. He's a strong RB1 week in and week out.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell has really high usage

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 08:19:41 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is the eighth player since 1950 to have 250 or more touches in the first nine games of a season.

Fantasy Tip: You likely know the horror stories of running backs' usage rates and the long-term effects, but that's only a factor in dynasty formats. Bell only has five touchdowns this year, and that's what is keeping him from being the top back in fantasy. He has a tough matchup with the Tennessee Titans this week, but he's one of the best assets to have the rest of the way.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell posts 112 scrimmage yards

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 15:14:18 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed 26 times for 80 yards in Week 10 against the Indianapolis Colts and he added five receptions for 32 yards on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: Bell posted 25 or more carries for the fourth consecutive game, as the Steelers are one of the rare teams these days to mostly use just one tailback. Fantasy owners love that. He has a quick turnaround to get ready for the Titans on Thursday night in Week 11.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell tallies 27 touches

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 20:55:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed 25 times for 76 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for five yards in a 20-15 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Bell didn't have his most efficient game running and didn't catch many passes, but it is a testament to his high floor when 81 yards from scrimmage and a score constitute a down game.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell totals 192 scrimmage yards

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 20:46:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed 35 times for 134 yards in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals and he added three grabs for 58 yards on his three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Bell's stat line certainly entertained his owners, and he also entertained fans everywhere with his Hide and Seek touchdown celebration with JuJu Smith-Schuster in the second half. Bell is back as a top fantasy option at his position after a slow start. The Steelers meet the Lions on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown set NFL record

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 09:27:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell and WR Antonio Brown are the first pair of teammates since the 1970 merger with at least 700 scrimmage yards apiece in their team's first six games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners already know Bell and Brown are obvious must-starts, but this stat reflects just how heavily the Steelers rely on them to carry the offense. Bell already has a league-high164 touches despite getting eased into action in Week 1, while Brown has nine more targets (74) and 196 more receiving yards than any other receiver.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell runs for 179 yards, TD

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 19:33:29 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed 32 times for 179 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also added three grabs for 12 yards on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: This is the Bell fantasy owners have been waiting for. After a slow start following his missing of training camp and the preseason, it took him a while to get on track. He had his biggest game against the best opponent the team has faced so far, and that's scary news for the rest of the league.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell could receive franchise tag again

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 09:42:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is likely to receive the franchise tag from the team next season, even though both sides will continue to work on a possible contract extension. Bell is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal worth $15 million annually but the Steelers are unlikely to offer him that much money, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has gotten off to a sluggish start this year after missing the entire preseason due to a contract dispute, with just one 100-yard rushing performance to date. That being said, the 25-year-old should still be viewed as a RB1 in all fantasy formats regardless of the opponent.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell totals 93 yards

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 14:05:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed 15 times for 47 yards in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and he added 10 receptions for 46 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The total yards from scrimmage is fine, but he failed to find the end zone for the third time in five games, and he has just one 100-yard rushing game to date. That's not exactly what fantasy owners expected from the first-round pick. He'll look for better results in Week 6, but faces a tough matchup in Kansas City.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell primed for big game?

Sat, 07 Oct 2017 19:02:58 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, and the Jaguars' run defense is ranked last in yards per attempt and yards per game and has allowed the third-most rushing touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Bell finally looked like himself last week, piling up 186 total yards and two scores. A repeat performance could be on tap against Jacksonville's porous run defense, and Bell has a good chance to finish as the top fantasy back in Week 5.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell carried 35 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens and he added four catches for 42 yards on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: This is the type of production Bell's fantasy owners have been patiently waiting for, as he had been performing nowhere close to expectation. He'll look to keep it rolling in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has gotten off to a slow start this season and is averaging only 3.5 yards per carry. He will continue to receive a significant amount of touches in the running and passing game. He can be considered a solid No. 1 fantasy running back against the Baltimore Ravens.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Wed, 27 Sep 2017 13:02:03 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (non-injury related) was not at practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: There was no indication as to why Bell did not practice, but it very well could have just been rest. Either way, look for any update on Bell's status as the week progresses. He's an automatic start when active.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell carried 15 times for 61 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears and he added six receptions for 37 yards on seven receptions.

Fantasy Tip: Bell didn't have a monster day, but it was easily his most productive of the season from a fantasy perspective. He'll look to keep things trending in the right direction heading into Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell ready for big game?

Sat, 23 Sep 2017 20:47:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is ready to return to form in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears, according to C Maurkice Pouncey and OG David DeCastro. "We have to do a better job of locking on guys and making sure he can get one-on-one and most of the time he beats that guy," Pouncey said.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Bell continues to struggle with efficiency against the Bears, the promise of a huge workload as Pittsburgh's lead back should ensure a decent stat line. Continue to treat him as a RB1.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 15:02:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed for 87 yards on 27 carries against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Bell received a lot more carries this week but was not able to rush for more than 11 yards on any play. He is working his way back after missing the entire preseason and should be a No. 1 running back against the Chicago Bears next week.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell not sure of role

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 21:24:10 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell did not line up as a receiver in four-receiver sets in Week 1, and Bell said he is unsure if he will continue to come off the field in those packages going forward.

Fantasy Tip: Bell sat out training camp, so there is a chance the coaching staff was trying to limit his snaps and ease him back into the mix. It will be something to watch going forward, but it shouldn't stop fantasy owners from deploying Bell as a RB1 against the Vikings in Week 2.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell held in check

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell rushed for 32 yards on 10 carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. He also caught three passes for 15 yards in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Bell skipped the entire preseason because of his contract situation and it showed in Week 1. He should post better numbers moving forward and will be a No. 1 fantasy running back most weeks.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell to be heavily involved in Week 1

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 09:53:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell should see "close to a full workload" in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: This is only notable because Bell reported to the team on Sept. 1. Regardless of whether or not Bell is heavily involved this weekend, he's a poor bet to play all 16 games with his usual workloads given the fact he was not with the team all summer - even as good of shape as he keeps himself in. James Conner appears to be his handcuff and needs to be held onto throughout the season.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin 'comfortable' with James Conner

Tue, 05 Sep 2017 10:15:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie RB James Conner has shown enough that head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters he would be comfortable with him should Le'Veon Bell does not or cannot take all the snaps at running back.

Fantasy Tip: Given Bell's injury history and the fact he reported to the team so late, this is actually a fairly big deal. As long as we can take Tomlin at his word (and history says we can), Conner will be one of the more valuable handcuffs in fantasy. Do not hesitate to pick him up in your league if he is somehow available or wait too long to select him as a high-upside option late in drafts.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell in shape

Tue, 05 Sep 2017 09:04:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is in "great physical condition," according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has been one of better-conditioned athletes since he made his physical transformation following his rookie season, so this isn't a surprise. The question is whether or not he can reach "football shape" anytime soon. Players who miss a significant portion of training camp and/or the preseason seem to be more prone to soft-tissue injuries than those who do, so Bell's owners would be wise to stock up on other options to protect themselves. Whenever Bell suits up, he is an elite RB1.
