Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly likes TE Zach Ertz's versatility, while it is believed the San Francisco 49ers skipped over Ertz and liked TE Vance McDonald more due to his physique and longer arms. Ertz will get a chance to show the 49ers what they are missing when his Eagles play in San Francisco in Week 4. "I was unaware that he had short arms," Kelly said. "They're long enough to catch a football because he does a really good job of that." Ertz has 45 receptions for 646 yards and five touchdowns since last season, while McDonald has managed just nine grabs for 128 yards and no scores.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz has emerged as a Top 10-15 option at his position, while McDonald does not crack the fantasy Top 50 at this point. Philly did a good job choosing Ertz, and FantasyScore owners will like him at $6400 this weekend.
Sun, 21 Sep 2014 08:13:29 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz has seven receptions on the season, and six of them have gone for 20 or more yards. He's second in the league in that category.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz ($6,500; 13% of your cap) is a cost-efficient TE1 with upside against the Washington Redskins on FantasyScore this week.
Fri, 19 Sep 2014 11:07:27 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 19, and is listed as probable for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Ertz has come out of the gates strong in the early going, and should be ready to go in Week 3. With a FantasyScore price of $6,500 (13% of cap), Ertz is worth a look.
Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:06:56 -0700

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 08:07:27 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz leads the NFL in yards per reception (23.3) through two weeks. He also is tied with Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones for the most receptions of 20-plus yards (six) and has as many 20-plus-yard catches as 20 other teams.
Wed, 27 Aug 2014 10:00:29 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is expected to be more involved in the passing game this season and has shown the confidence to be a solid pass catcher, according to tight ends coach Ted Williams. "He's one of the best route-runners I've ever seen. He takes a lot of pride in that. He has a lot of confidence. He's hard to defeat, because he doesn't take defeat very well. He feels, 'You can't cover me,'" Williams said. Williams said the team can throw when they are in a two-tight end set and that Ertz can line up at tight end, in the slot or as an outside receiver.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Ertz will have a bigger role in the offense than he did last season. Owners could consider Ertz as a low-end No. 1 tight end or a solid No. 2 tight end with upside.
Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:48:54 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper (foot) is practicing again Monday, Aug. 18.
Fantasy Tip: Cooper's rapport with Nick Foles last season vaulted him into WR3 status. Jeremy Maclin's return and the emergence of Zach Ertz may temper his targets a bit, though.
Fri, 15 Aug 2014 21:16:22 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz had a pair of grabs for 26 yards and a touchdown in the preseason game against the New England Patriots Friday, Aug. 15.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz is certainly heading upwards on draft boards all over as he is having a solid preseason and showing well when it counts. In Philly's up-tempo offense, he can be a legitimate TE1 in leagues of 12 or more teams.
Thu, 14 Aug 2014 13:57:34 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is athletic, fast and a good route-runner, according to New England Patriots DE Chandler Jones. Ertz was said to be a handful after two joint practices with the Patriots this week.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz has been gaining hype all offseason and is ready for a breakout year in his second season in head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense. He's a matchup nightmare for anyone and a big red zone threat. There's definitely TE1 potential with Ertz.
Thu, 07 Aug 2014 13:10:58 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz said he's feeling more confident this year than he did in his rookie season. Ertz added he'll be looking to attack more this season instead of still trying to figure things out.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz is one of the more promising, young tight ends in the game. He has a good chance at a breakout sophomore campaign in head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense.
Thu, 07 Aug 2014 05:19:30 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is likely to be the team's leading red zone target. Ertz's blocking ability has improved, and that could help him stay on the field more often. "It's very important for tight ends, number one, to be efficient blockers," offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said. "You don't always have tight ends that are just going to knock them into next Wednesday, but you have to be an efficient blocker, especially if your thing is to catch passes. I think Ertz is developing more and more and more. I see his confidence starting to really build."
Fantasy Tip: Ertz is a mid-to-low TE2 with upside and a good TE2 in touchdown-only leagues.
Fri, 30 May 2014 06:33:55 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles' organized team activities have displayed their intent to move a lot faster and increase the amount of plays run, in the observation of Nick Fierro. They were quick in moving to the line of scrimmage even before the whistle blew. "We're just running as many reps as we can so we can get it on tape and teach them," head coach Chip Kelly said. "... What we're trying to do is, can we get a maximum number of reps for everybody, because we do have three and four groups, both offensively and defensively? Let's just get a lot of stuff on tape so we can teach off it."
Fantasy Tip: Of course, such an overwhelming pace allowed the offense to dominate last year before they fell apart, for numerous reasons. Of course LeSean McCoy should have another elite year, but the other fantasy-relevant members of this offense in their second year with this system -- Nick Foles, Jeremy Maclin (despite his injury), Riley Cooper, Zach Ertz -- could be in line for huge steps forward with this continuity.
Thu, 29 May 2014 10:30:38 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz said he feels much more prepared in his second round of organized team activities heading into his second season, and he thinks he's ready to make a very big impact in the offense. "I think I can make a big jump," Ertz said. "I mean, I'm not a predictions guy. At the end of the day, all I really care about are the wins. But at the beginning of the year, I kind of started off slow. As the season went on, I think the numbers and the plays started to pick up, and hopefully it's more of the same." Ertz had 36 catches for 469 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie year.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz, in this offense, definitely has a high ceiling, and he makes for a solid backup tight end in fantasy leagues this season.
Thu, 13 Mar 2014 19:33:20 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles could consider releasing TE James Casey if they want to keep four running backs and five wide receivers on the roster next season. The Eagles would only keep TEs Brent Celek and Zach Ertz in that scenario.
Fri, 14 Feb 2014 18:49:39 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is expected to become the team's primary receiving tight end next season.
Sat, 25 Jan 2014 18:11:08 -0800
The Philadelphia Eagles like TEs James Casey, Brent Celek and Zach Ertz, and just because Casey and Celek will get raises in salary to $4 million in 2014, it doesn't mean they won't be back.
Thu, 09 Jan 2014 18:52:32 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is expected to have a bigger role on offense next season and could become a starter. Ertz caught 25 passes for 290 yards and five touchdowns in the last nine games of the season.
Fri, 06 Dec 2013 23:40:15 -0800
In the Arizona Cardinals' five losses, opposing tight ends have caught 11 touchdown passes, and in last week's loss at the Philadelphia Eagles, all three of the Eagles' touchdowns were scored by TEs Zach Ertz and Brent Celek.
Fri, 06 Dec 2013 10:42:36 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles LB Najee Goode (hamstring) and S Earl Wolff (knee) have been ruled out for Week 14. TE Zach Ertz (shoulder), DT Bennie Logan (neck), WR Jeff Maehl (concussion) and DE Damion Square (back) are probable. Goode and Wolff did not practice Friday, Dec. 6, while the others practiced in full.

Sun, 03 Nov 2013 18:10:20 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz posted five grabs for 42 yards and a score in Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders, and TE Brent Celek had three receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Fantasy Tip: Neither is particularly useful from a fantasy perspective, although each could safely be used as a short-term fantasy option or one-week bye replacement.
Tue, 15 Oct 2013 09:29:54 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is now listed as a co-starter with TE Brent Celek.
Sat, 28 Sep 2013 08:14:29 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz has played in only 51 of the team's 205 offensive snaps this season but understands he needs to wait his turn. Head coach Chip Kelly said TE Brent Celek has not done anything to lose his starting job at this time.
Wed, 14 Aug 2013 14:05:59 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek played in all 21 snaps with the first-team offense in the team's first preseason game, and he was used everywhere on the field and either blocked or ran passing routes. Celek started eight plays lined up as a halfback and four times lined up as a traditional tight end. He also was lined up four times in the slot, three times split out wide and twice in the backfield to the left of the quarterback in shotgun. "In this offense, you've got to know every position, and they can just interchange you anywhere," Celek said. "And it's fun. It's a new experience. You get to do different things. Guys like it." He stayed in to block on 11 plays.
TE James Casey didn't see a single snap with the first-team offense. TE Zach Ertz should see plenty of time, too, but his development as a blocker should keep Celek as the No. 1 tight end on the team. Ertz, who didn't run block much in college, will be asked to do plenty of that in the pros. Ertz blocked out of his formations and struggled in the preseason game. The three times there was a two-tight end set, Ertz was lined up in the slot with Celek either in-line or in the backfield. Celek, Ertz and Casey have lined up in three-tight end formations at times in practice, but it's unlikely the team will use many of those formations during the season.
Fantasy Tip: Celek and Ertz are really the only two tight ends that should be considered in fantasy circles. How Kelly uses them both will likely vary, and Ertz's struggles as a blocker might help him as a receiver if Chip Kelly decides to use Celek for blocking more. Regardless, they could be interchangeable and figure to give fantasy owners relying on them headaches on a weekly basis.
Wed, 07 Aug 2013 18:04:36 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz found a way to get open frequently Wednesday, Aug. 7, during joint practice with the New England Patriots. The rookie hauled in several passes on a number of different routes.
Fantasy Tip: For now, it appears Ertz is No. 3 on the depth chart at the tight end position. However, he has shown an ability to get open, and Chip Kelly is familiar with Ertz from their days in the PAC-12 Conference. It is looking like Ertz might be the No. 2 TE on the roster as far as receiving is concerned, as Brent Celek is being more used for his skill as a blocker. Avoid Ertz for now, but remember that name if injuries bite the Eagles at tight end like they have at wide receiver.
Sat, 27 Jul 2013 14:32:09 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles confirmed reports that WR Jeremy Maclin (knee) tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Fantasy Tip: This will effectively end Maclin's season. Riley Cooper reportedly stepped into his place during practice but probably isn't a better fantasy option than Arrelious Benn (knee) and Jason Avant if all three are healthy. The tight ends could see more targets, but the mix remains complicated with Brent Celek, Zach Ertz and Clay Harbor, and it could be a fantasy mess. This also removes a weapon from either Nick Foles or Michael Vick.
Tue, 23 Jul 2013 09:29:33 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek is considered a blocking tight end in the new offensive system installed by head coach Chip Kelly, while FB/TE James Casey and TE Zach Ertz are considered primarily receivers.
Fantasy Tip: The team has plenty of depth at the position, and might use three-TE alignments at some points. For fantasy purposes, Celek will no longer be that dependable guy you go to off the waiver wire. It appears his production will be down. Casey might be the best bet, with Ertz the second option. Clay Harbor is also in the mix for a role.
Thu, 23 May 2013 09:44:01 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz, the team's second-round draft pick, is unable to participate in organized team activities because of NFL rules until he graduates from college at Stanford.
Fantasy Tip: OTAs are voluntary, but Ertz would have some valuable time in new head coach Chip Kelly's system, which figures to feature plenty of two-tight end sets. Brent Celek will be the main tight end at Michael Vick's disposal, so Ertz doesn't figure to get enough looks to be worth a draft pick.
Fri, 17 May 2013 13:24:03 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly indicated TEs Brent Celek, Zach Ertz and James Casey are expected to receive playing time during games this season.
Fantasy Tip: Even though they are all expected to see playing time, none are considered No. 1 fantasy tight ends. Celek could be worth a late-round flier that can be a No. 2 tight end because of his chemistry with QB Michael Vick. Casey should get a decent amount of receptions this season but should be taken in only very deep leagues. Casey could be a waiver wire option early in the season. Ertz is not expected to have a lot of fantasy value this season.
Thu, 09 May 2013 13:39:08 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles signed TE Zach Ertz, S Earl Wolff, DE Joe Kruger, CB Jordan Poyer and DE David King Thursday, May 9. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Fri, 26 Apr 2013 15:50:02 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Stanford TE Zach Ertz with the 35th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Tip: Ertz will join Brent Celek as another tight end for Chip Kelly in Philadelphia. He may be a better tight end prospect for fantasy football purposes than his fellow teammate, Coby Fleener, was last season for the Indianapolis Colts. It all depends on how the Eagles choose to utilize him with their new-look offense in 2013.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 11:19:06 -0700

Wed, 20 Mar 2013 09:41:07 -0700
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, offensive coordinator Greg Roman and tight ends coach Reggie Davis informally met with Stanford TE Zach Ertz at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Sun, 03 Mar 2013 18:05:40 -0800
Stanford TE Zach Ertz might hear his name called near the end of the first round in the NFL Draft. However, he is basically considered a wide receiver due to his poor blocking ability according to one NFL scout. "I guess it depends on the team," a scout said Sunday, March 3. "To me, he's a big, possession wide receiver. That's what he is. You put him out there, and it's like having three wide receivers on the field. He can't block at all. He has just average speed for the position, but he does run great routes, and there is something to be said for that."
