Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson earning approval

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 09:36:58 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson has garnered an offensive role by merit, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson didn't exactly set the world on fire with five offensive snaps in Week 1, but those five snaps were five more than first-round rookie Laquon Treadwell. He ended up with two offensive touches and probably isn't going to see many more than that in the near future long as Adrian Peterson and Stefon Diggs stay healthy. Owners may want to consider adding him to their watch list, but his upside in this offense as things stand at the moment is limited.

Vikings | Role for Jarius Wright unclear

Mon, 05 Sep 2016 20:20:59 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Jarius Wright is the most experienced receiver in just about every category, but questions remain about his role after the preseason. With WRs Adam Thielen and Cordarrelle Patterson useful on special teams, and WRs Stefon Diggs, Charles Johnson and Laquon Treadwell expected to contribute on offense, Wright's place is uncertain although he did make the 53-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Wright likely needs a long-term injury to one of the top offensive weapons, or a possible trade, before he re-emerges as a fantasy option. Right now it appears he is the No. 6 receiver in Minnesota and likely to be a healthy inactive most weeks.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson back on the field

Mon, 08 Aug 2016 17:38:28 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (shoulder) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 8, after sitting out practice Saturday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is listed as one of the backups at wide receiver on the first depth chart but may need a solid preseason to make sure he makes the final roster. He probably will only have value in deeper mixed leagues as a late-round option.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson to miss a few days

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 17:15:21 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (shoulder) is expected to miss several days of practice. He injured his left shoulder while making a diving catch Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson may be worthy of consideration as a late-round flier in deeper fantasy leagues but he's unlikely to make much of an impact if the three receivers ahead of him on Minnesota's depth chart remain healthy.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson injured Friday

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 17:16:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (arm) suffered an apparent injury to his left shoulder or collarbone during practice Friday, July 29. He sustained the injury after making a diving catch and was forced to leave early. Head coach Mike Zimmer does not believe the problem is serious.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has not performed up to his potential through his first two NFL seasons but may still be worth considering as a late-round flier in deeper fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patteron may not play much

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:22:23 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson could still be spending much of his time on the bench in 2016 if WR Charles Johnson improves during training camp. Patterson is expected to play behind WRs Stefon Diggs, Laquon Treadwell and Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson will be in prove-it mode entering a contract season, but he has been more than disappointing the last two seasons. Barring an injury to one of three receivers above him, Patterson can continue to be avoided, although taking him as a deep flier in deeper leagues isn't a bad strategy.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson can be productive

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 18:41:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson logged 469 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns over the final six games of 2013, and the Vikings ranked 13th in total yards. He touched the ball four times from scrimmage last year, and the Vikings ranked 29th.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson hasn't been given much of a chance to use his game-changing explosiveness, but he still has some intriguing potential. He could be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues, and he is worth monitoring in all formats in case Minnesota decides to make him a bigger part of the offense.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson admits to slacking

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 10:36:51 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson admitted that after he was the No. 29 overall pick in 2013, he didn't always work as hard as he should have. "Sometimes you can be here and you feel like you've got to be on the team," Patterson said. "You feel like, 'Yeah, I'm a first-round pick, I'm on the team.' Things like that, sometimes they make you not work hard, they make you don't want to do things, make you be lazy." Patterson had 45 catches for 469 yards in his rookie season but lost his starting job midway through 2014 and had just two catches for 10 yards in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Reports in offseason workouts have been good for Patterson, and he's been praised by the coaching staff for his improved work ethic and route running. But it might be too late for Patterson. The Vikes spent another first-round pick on receiver Laquon Treadwell, and it might prove to be an uphill battle for playing time with Charles Johnson and Jarius Wright this year. Patterson has been much better on special teams, but that doesn't do much for fantasy owners. Unless Patterson continues to impress and leapfrogs someone on the depth chart, leave him undrafted in typical fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson to work harder

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 19:24:10 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson has earned the praise of head coach Mike Zimmer this offseason, as Zimmer has lauded Patterson's work ethic and improved route running. Patterson plans to work out for a week or two in Florida with QB Teddy Bridgewater, and he might go to San Francisco for additional conditioning work.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is in a contract year, so there is some motivation for him there, too. He is trying to work his way into a starting job opposite Stefon Diggs, but he still has a ways to go before he makes that leap. The urgency for Patterson is nice, and it sounds like he is finally getting it. With his speed he has the chance to be a great late-round fantasy find if this uptick continues.

Vikings | Charles Johnson must earn roster spot

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 13:55:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Charles Johnson will need to earn his way onto the Vikings' roster this season, in the opinion of Matt Vensel of The Minneapolis Star Tribune. Johnson lost his starting spot to WR Stefon Diggs last season, and now he'll have to compete with rookie WR Laquon Treadwell and WR Cordarrelle Patterson. Johnson needs to prove himself even more after playing in just 23 games the last two seasons combined.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has plenty of work to do to regain his fantasy relevance. He could very well be Minnesota's No. 4 wide receiver when all is said and done, so don't draft him as more than a WR5.
