Raiders | Big run for Cordarrelle Patterson

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 04:26:01 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Cordarrelle Patterson had 55 yards rushing in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he also had one catch for five yards.

Fantasy Tip: Before you get excited, a word of caution. Patterson had a 47-yard run, so a good chunk of those yards came on one play. The team wants to get Patterson involved, but the results aren't perfect. Stay away until the Raiders can find a better role.

Raiders | More snaps for Cordarrelle Patterson?

Sat, 30 Sep 2017 20:15:12 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Cordarrelle Patterson could fill in for WR Michael Crabtree (chest) against the Denver Broncos in Week 4 if Crabtree is unable to play, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson wouldn't be worth starting in season-long formats if Crabtree sits, but with his big-play speed, the potential for added touches could make him a worth a roll of the dice in daily contests.

Sat, 23 Sep 2017 19:48:32 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Cordarrelle Patterson has played 66 snaps between offense and special teams through two games, lining up 46 times at receiver and four times at running back. "They put me at running back," Patterson said. "They have me at receiver. They have me everywhere. It feels good to be wanted."

Raiders | Cordarrelle Patterson making plays at WR

Thu, 15 Jun 2017 23:32:14 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Cordarrelle Patterson has been a "revelation" as a receiver thus far, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez, who indicated Patterson has displayed his playmaking ability throughout OTAs and minicamp.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is arguably the top kick returner in the NFL, but that explosiveness never translated on offense with the Vikings. If the light finally comes on for the former first-rounder, opportunities could abound with nobody locked in at receiver beyond Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Keep an eye on him this preseason.

Raiders | Cordarrelle Patterson to see offensive snaps

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 15:02:00 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Cordarrelle Patterson will have a role in the offense next season, according to head coach Jack Del Rio.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson likely will be used when the team uses three- and four-receiver sets and could also see touches in the running game. He probably will not have a big role on offense and should not be more than a No. 5 receiver in deeper leagues.

Raiders | Oakland WR recruiting Adrian Peterson

Sat, 18 Mar 2017 19:26:43 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR Cordarrelle Patterson has been trying to recruit free-agent RB Adrian Peterson via Twitter, telling Peterson to "join the dark side."

Fantasy Tip: Patterson was teammates with Peterson in Minnesota, but as of now, there is no evidence that the Oakland front office is pursuing Peterson. Wherever Peterson plays in 2017, you can't expect him to be more than a low-end RB2.

Raiders | Cordarrelle Patterson will sign with Raiders

Mon, 13 Mar 2017 20:41:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings) will sign with the Oakland Raiders, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: That was a pretty quick turnaround after the soon-to-be 26-year-old had left Oakland's facility without a contract. In any event, a shift to the 12-4 Raiders and their rising offense could do wonders for Patterson's fantasy prospects. He's already a dynamic kickoff returner, and perhaps having Derek Carr throwing to him could help him build upon his career-high 52 catches from a season ago. He should be monitored throughout training camp.

Raiders | No deal from OAK for Cordarrelle Patterson

Mon, 13 Mar 2017 20:21:29 -0700

Free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings) left his visit with the Oakland Raiders without a contract Monday, March 13.

Fantasy Tip: This doesn't mean he ultimately won't sign with the Raiders, but he is on record of saying that he would be interested in returning to Minnesota. While he is coming off a season in which he recorded a career-high 52 catches, Patterson still has more to prove if he wants to become a legitimate fantasy option. He's exhibited too much inconsistency to be drafted in most formats, but perhaps a new environment could change that.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson wants to re-sign

Sun, 12 Mar 2017 18:58:58 -0700

Free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings) posted a series of messages on Snapchat Saturday, March 11, indicating that he wants to re-sign with the Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is capable of a big play whenever he touches the ball, but he needs an offensive coordinator that knows how to deploy him in a variety of ways. He will likely be a late-round lottery pick wherever he signs.

Bears | Chicago meets with Cordarrelle Patterson

Sat, 11 Mar 2017 14:16:21 -0800

Free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings) recently met with the Chicago Bears, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson could have a decent role in the passing game if he decides to sign with the Bears but probably would be more of a returner for Chicago. Patterson has had some success as a receiver, but owners in most fantasy leagues can avoid him no matter where he signs.

Redskins | Cordarrelle Patterson visits Washsington

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 13:22:59 -0800

Free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings) recently visited the Washington Redskins, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is one of the top kick returners in the league, but he would likely be little more than the same gadget offensive player for Minnesota in Washington following the Redskins' signing of Terrelle Pryor. He can be ignored in most leagues that do not count return yards.

Raiders | Oakland to talk with Cordarrelle Patterson

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 13:21:27 -0800

Free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings) is scheduled to meet with the Oakland Raiders, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson could compete for the No. 3 receiver job if he signs with the Raiders, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He probably will also be used as a returner no matter where he signs. Patterson could be a No. 5 fantasy receiver depending on his role.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson may not return

Tue, 07 Mar 2017 14:39:21 -0800

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson is not expected to be back with the Vikings in 2017, in the opinion of the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Matt Vensel.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has really only ever made a name for himself in the return game. And while he may be more involved in the passing game on a new team, he shouldn't be viewed as more than a late-round flier in standard leagues.

Sun, 05 Mar 2017 19:53:11 -0800

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to land a deal in excess of $4 million per year, according to multiple NFL sources.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson can be explosive with the ball in his hands, and if he lands with a team that will deploy him a variety of ways, he could be a WR3 in 2017.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson wants the ball

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 17:32:45 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson said his future in Minnesota depends on how he will be used. "I need to know if I'm going to play or not," Patterson said. "If not, I'll take my talents elsewhere. If they want me back, they'll make a deal and get me back."

Fantasy Tip: Patterson's role in the offense increased once Pat Shurmur took over as offensive coordinator, but his fantasy value is always going to be tied to big plays. His boom-or-bust style makes him more appealing in DFS formats than in season-long leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson willing to play RB

Thu, 26 Jan 2017 21:29:11 -0800

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson said he would love to play running back next season and just wants the ball in his hand as much as possible.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson saw his role increase in the second half of the year, and if he ends up back in Minnesota, he will be worth a flier in the later rounds because of his big-play upside.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson enjoyed new offense

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 19:17:42 -0800

Impending free-agent WR Cordarrelle Patterson told NFL.com's Conor Orr that he liked the way the offense evolved in the second half of the season under Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Patterson saw 46 targets over the nine games Shurmur was calling the plays as opposed to 24 targets for the first seven contests under former offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is going to be hard-pressed to crack the starting lineup in Minnesota with Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen stepping up over the last two seasons, but he seemed to find his niche as a player Vikings could use on reverses and bubble screens due to his explosiveness. He also is one of the league's top kick returners in the league, so it seems like a good bet Minnesota will try hard to lock him up before the start of free agency.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson posts 49 yards

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 18:23:43 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson posted five receptions for 49 yards on eight targets in the Week 15 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson was useful in the passing game earlier in October, but has slowly started to fade again through November and into December. This was his best game since Oct. 23, but that's not saying much. He remains nothing more than a WR4 in deeper PPR leagues heading into Week 16.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson will play

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 16:26:37 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (concussion) is officially active for the team's Week 8 game.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has played well over the last three weeks and has caught a touchdown pass in each of the last two games. He could be a flex option in deeper leagues and should have some value in daily fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson expected to play

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 14:40:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (concussion) is expected to play in Week 8 even though he is listed as questionable for the game, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson likely will be the team's kick returner and should also receive some playing time with the offense. He has posted decent numbers over the last few weeks but probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson questionable

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 13:21:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (concussion) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson will have to be cleared before he is allowed to play, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. Patterson has been more involved in the passing game over the past few weeks, but owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson back at practice

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 09:35:55 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (concussion) was spotted at practice covering kicks Saturday, Oct. 29.

Fantasy Tip: A Saturday practice gives Patterson a shot to play on Monday against the Chicago Bears, but it is highly likely he will be limited. Given Patterson's athleticism and unique role, there isn't an obvious backup option for him on the team. As a result, his lack of involvement in this week's game plan could mean a few more targets for Stefon Diggs and/or Kyle Rudolph.

WR Jarius Wright (ankle), TE MyCole Pruitt (knee) and LB Audie Cole (finger) were limited during practice. LB Anthony Barr (ankle), OG Alex Boone (knee, shoulder), OT Jeremiah Sirles (knee) and WR Laquon Treadwell (thumb) fully participated in practice.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson successful Sunday

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 14:11:17 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson caught seven passes for 67 yards and one touchdown Sunday, Oct. 23, in a 21-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Although Sam Bradford didn't have his best day, he and Patterson have developed a decent rapport and Patterson earned points for his fantasy owners. The fact Patterson did this against Philly's defense is a plus.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson leaves briefly

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 17:31:49 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (hip) left the Week 5 game against the Houston Texans briefly, but he was able to return and finish.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson's injury cost him time in the return game, as he was taken off that role, but he was able to play a big role in the offense. He'll have two weeks to rest with a bye in Week 6.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson scores touchdown

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 16:21:08 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson had four catches for 39 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. He was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has played himself back into a role on offense with his solid practicing and good play on special teams. He might have seen an increase in targets with Stefon Diggs sidelined, but it appears Patterson has passed both Jarius Wright and Charles Johnson in the pecking order in Minnesota. He isn't a bad stash option for Week 7 once the team returns from a bye.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson gets second chance

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 19:38:32 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson is getting a second chance at a role on offense. He had five receptions and an end zone target in Week 4 against the New York Giants, re-emerging as an option on offense, not just as a special teams threat. "Cordarrelle has done a nice job throughout OTAs, through training camp and through practices," head coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday, Oct. 5. "So I felt like he earned some opportunities to get in there."

Fantasy Tip: Patterson managed just two receptions last season and was a lost cause, although he is a special teams standout leading the league in kick returns both in 2013 and 2015. He is No. 1 in the league right now, too. If he can figure in more prominently on offense, he might be a nice addition in fantasy formats which reward individual return yardage. He still has a ways to go before he is worth adding in standard fantasy, however.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson earning approval

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 09:36:58 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson has garnered an offensive role by merit, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson didn't exactly set the world on fire with five offensive snaps in Week 1, but those five snaps were five more than first-round rookie Laquon Treadwell. He ended up with two offensive touches and probably isn't going to see many more than that in the near future long as Adrian Peterson and Stefon Diggs stay healthy. Owners may want to consider adding him to their watch list, but his upside in this offense as things stand at the moment is limited.

Vikings | Role for Jarius Wright unclear

Mon, 05 Sep 2016 20:20:59 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Jarius Wright is the most experienced receiver in just about every category, but questions remain about his role after the preseason. With WRs Adam Thielen and Cordarrelle Patterson useful on special teams, and WRs Stefon Diggs, Charles Johnson and Laquon Treadwell expected to contribute on offense, Wright's place is uncertain although he did make the 53-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Wright likely needs a long-term injury to one of the top offensive weapons, or a possible trade, before he re-emerges as a fantasy option. Right now it appears he is the No. 6 receiver in Minnesota and likely to be a healthy inactive most weeks.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson back on the field

Mon, 08 Aug 2016 17:38:28 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (shoulder) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 8, after sitting out practice Saturday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is listed as one of the backups at wide receiver on the first depth chart but may need a solid preseason to make sure he makes the final roster. He probably will only have value in deeper mixed leagues as a late-round option.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson to miss a few days

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 17:15:21 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (shoulder) is expected to miss several days of practice. He injured his left shoulder while making a diving catch Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson may be worthy of consideration as a late-round flier in deeper fantasy leagues but he's unlikely to make much of an impact if the three receivers ahead of him on Minnesota's depth chart remain healthy.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson injured Friday

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 17:16:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (arm) suffered an apparent injury to his left shoulder or collarbone during practice Friday, July 29. He sustained the injury after making a diving catch and was forced to leave early. Head coach Mike Zimmer does not believe the problem is serious.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has not performed up to his potential through his first two NFL seasons but may still be worth considering as a late-round flier in deeper fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patteron may not play much

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:22:23 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson could still be spending much of his time on the bench in 2016 if WR Charles Johnson improves during training camp. Patterson is expected to play behind WRs Stefon Diggs, Laquon Treadwell and Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson will be in prove-it mode entering a contract season, but he has been more than disappointing the last two seasons. Barring an injury to one of three receivers above him, Patterson can continue to be avoided, although taking him as a deep flier in deeper leagues isn't a bad strategy.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson can be productive

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 18:41:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson logged 469 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns over the final six games of 2013, and the Vikings ranked 13th in total yards. He touched the ball four times from scrimmage last year, and the Vikings ranked 29th.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson hasn't been given much of a chance to use his game-changing explosiveness, but he still has some intriguing potential. He could be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues, and he is worth monitoring in all formats in case Minnesota decides to make him a bigger part of the offense.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson admits to slacking

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 10:36:51 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson admitted that after he was the No. 29 overall pick in 2013, he didn't always work as hard as he should have. "Sometimes you can be here and you feel like you've got to be on the team," Patterson said. "You feel like, 'Yeah, I'm a first-round pick, I'm on the team.' Things like that, sometimes they make you not work hard, they make you don't want to do things, make you be lazy." Patterson had 45 catches for 469 yards in his rookie season but lost his starting job midway through 2014 and had just two catches for 10 yards in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Reports in offseason workouts have been good for Patterson, and he's been praised by the coaching staff for his improved work ethic and route running. But it might be too late for Patterson. The Vikes spent another first-round pick on receiver Laquon Treadwell, and it might prove to be an uphill battle for playing time with Charles Johnson and Jarius Wright this year. Patterson has been much better on special teams, but that doesn't do much for fantasy owners. Unless Patterson continues to impress and leapfrogs someone on the depth chart, leave him undrafted in typical fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson to work harder

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 19:24:10 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson has earned the praise of head coach Mike Zimmer this offseason, as Zimmer has lauded Patterson's work ethic and improved route running. Patterson plans to work out for a week or two in Florida with QB Teddy Bridgewater, and he might go to San Francisco for additional conditioning work.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is in a contract year, so there is some motivation for him there, too. He is trying to work his way into a starting job opposite Stefon Diggs, but he still has a ways to go before he makes that leap. The urgency for Patterson is nice, and it sounds like he is finally getting it. With his speed he has the chance to be a great late-round fantasy find if this uptick continues.

Vikings | Charles Johnson must earn roster spot

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 13:55:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Charles Johnson will need to earn his way onto the Vikings' roster this season, in the opinion of Matt Vensel of The Minneapolis Star Tribune. Johnson lost his starting spot to WR Stefon Diggs last season, and now he'll have to compete with rookie WR Laquon Treadwell and WR Cordarrelle Patterson. Johnson needs to prove himself even more after playing in just 23 games the last two seasons combined.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has plenty of work to do to regain his fantasy relevance. He could very well be Minnesota's No. 4 wide receiver when all is said and done, so don't draft him as more than a WR5.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson's option declined

Mon, 02 May 2016 10:32:17 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson's fifth-year option was declined by the Vikings Monday, May 2, according to a league source. Patterson caught only two passes in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has a ton of athletic ability, but it hasn't translated onto the field in the Vikings offense. After the Vikes spent a first-round pick on Laquon Treadwell, Patterson is pushed further down the depth chart. Patterson has contributed much more on special teams, and he isn't worth spending a late-round flier on in traditional fantasy drafts.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson likely in walk year

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 23:42:33 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson is unlikely to have his fifth-year option picked up for 2017. He's set to make $1.389 million in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has virtually no fantasy value as he caught just two passes last season.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson focusing on routes

Fri, 19 Feb 2016 16:12:13 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson is honing his route running this offseason with Steve Calhoun, a private quarterbacks and receivers coach based out of Orange County, California.

Fantasy Tip: Athletic ability and physical talent aren't in question with Patterson, and he found the end zone nine times as a rookie in 2013.. However, he received just two targets and two rushing attempts in 2015. At this point, he is nothing more than a wait-and-see project in the real and virtual game, and fantasy owners shouldn't make him a priority.

Vikings | GM still unsure of Cordarrelle Patterson

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 15:44:16 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson is entering what general manager Rick Spielman is calling a telltale year. Spielman said there's still some evaluating that has to be done to determine what Patterson will provide in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson has proven enough over the last two seasons to be a mainstay on fantasy league waiver wires. The Vikings aren't even that deep at wide receiver, yet Patterson hardly saw the field last season. Stay away from him.

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 13:45:11 -0700

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 22:12:27 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson has worked with the second team through the start of training camp, although head coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday, July 29, that he has seen some improvement from the wide receiver.

Fantasy Tip: Patterson is clearly behind Charles Johnson and Mike Wallace on the depth chart, and he could be behind Jarius Wright as well. Right now he is only worth a speculative pick in the late rounds of standard fantasy leagues with 12 or more teams.

Vikings | Inconsistency for Cordarrelle Patterson

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 19:35:36 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson showed improved in organized team activities (OTAs), according to head coach Mike Zimmer, but the receiver has had consistency issues on the practice field which is holding him back. "He'll have really good days, and then he'll have some not-so-good days. Really, I think what he needs to do is just the consistency every single day and the consistency in studying, the consistency in getting extra help that he needs if he needs it, running the routes the same all the time and understanding that there's a lot of great athletes that don't make it in professional sports because they don't have the other intangibles," Zimmer said.

Fantasy Tip: The Vikings have plenty of depth at receiver following the addition of Mike Wallace, as well as the emergence of Charles Johnson and Jarius Wright. So the team can afford to be patient. But fantasy owners likely won't want to take a chance on him until the very final rounds on draft day, because the potential is still there. Physically, he can be so good. Mentally, he still has a lot of work to do.
