St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin admitted that he was lost as a rookie in 2013, struggling to pick up the playbook. The No. 8 overall pick said it was like a foreign language to him but added that now he has a much better grasp of the system. "I understand the plays, the depth, the routes, the splits and everything," Austin said. "I just feel good that I can make some plays. Definitely, the game's slowed down for me."
Fantasy Tip: The coaching staff is working in creative ways to get Austin the ball in space, but they also know he is not an every-down player and won't use him that way. He is a high-risk, high-reward WR3 in PPR leagues.
Tue, 24 Jun 2014 05:40:46 -0700
St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer hinted the team will expand WR Tavon Austin's role this season. "Moving him around to a lot of different spots," Schottenheimer said. "You'll see us hand him the ball, do some different things. He's playing so much faster just because he knows what we're doing. He has the system down cold."
Fantasy Tip: Austin's big-play ability makes him a WR3 with WR2 potential. He may frustrate you with consistency on a week-to-week basis, but his home run ability is undeniable.

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin has a much better understanding of the offense heading into 2014 than he did a year ago. "I'm just glad to come out here and make some plays to keep on going."

The St. Louis Rams did not select a wide receiver with any of their 12 selections in this year's draft, and head coach Jeff Fisher said they are happy and confident with the group of young receivers they have on their roster. St. Louis ranked 29th in the league in receiving yards last year, 26th in yards per catch and were tied for 20th in receiving touchdowns. WR Tavon Austin came on strong late in his rookie year, and WRs Chris Givens and Brian Quick are expected to do more in their third seasons with QB Sam Bradford coming off an injury. WR Stedman Bailey will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, but the team also took a chance on WR Kenny Britt.
Fantasy Tip: Austin should be primed to take the next step in his sophomore season. One of the big reasons why the Rams' offense sputtered so much over the course of the season was because Bradford wasn't around. With a healthy Bradford, all of St. Louis' aerial weapons should benefit.
Mon, 31 Mar 2014 12:39:12 -0700
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said he expects WR Tavon Austin to improve this upcoming season, because he will have a full offseason to learn the offense. "I think another year in the program, in the offense, OTAs, training camp, you'll see more production. I think we'll do a better job of using him now that we know what he's capable of doing. Kind of looking forward to see him improve from year one to year two," Fisher said.

Fantasy Tip: Austin remains in a walking boot Friday, which isn't a good sign for his playing status against the New Orleans Saints. Austin hasn't practiced at all this week. To be safe, you should go with another receiving option.
Thu, 12 Dec 2013 16:20:56 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin's playing time was limited to 29 offensive plays and 10 more on special teams in Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans. He was targeted twice, and ended up with zero receptions.
Fantasy Tip: Austin's playing time has dwindled, and having QB Kellen Clemens under center isn't going to do him a lot of favors, either. For fantasy purposes, it's best to avoid Austin until he starts to live up to his potential.
Fri, 01 Nov 2013 07:21:25 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin admitted playing in the NFL was a little more difficult than he thought. He is tied for the league lead with seven drops. "This isn't supposed to be easy," Austin said. "Maybe it was a little harder than I thought at first. But all I can do is keep working."

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin posted six receptions in his regular season debut in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, finishing with 41 yards.

Tue, 27 Aug 2013 09:00:40 -0700
The St. Louis Rams might only keep five wide receivers to start the regular season due to injuries at the tight end position. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick are considered the "big five." WRs Emory Blake, Nick Johnson and Justin Veltung are believed to be battling for the sixth receiver job.
Fantasy Tip: Even if Blake, Johnson or Veltung were to find their way onto the roster, they're a long way from having any fantasy appeal.

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin attended the football camp of QB Sam Bradford in Oklahoma during the offseason. "They went well. He made us do a two-a-day. I wasn't used to this back in college, but we did a two-a-day," Austin said. "I was only there for two days. I had to go back home. But for the most part, everything went well, and we got some good work in."
Tue, 23 Jul 2013 08:45:10 -0700
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher thinks there are plenty of positives drafting WRs Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, both from the University of West Virginia. "I couldn't see any negative to it. Tue, 16 Jul 2013 20:03:30 -0700
St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens and Austin Pettis are each listed as projected starters on the team's initial depth chart heading into training camp. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick are listed as 'key contributors'.
Fantasy Tip: There is still plenty to be hashed out during training camp and the preseason, but Givens is the best of the lot in terms of fantasy appeal due to his big-play ability.
Fri, 05 Jul 2013 09:53:21 -0700
St. Louis Rams rookie WR Tavon Austin reportedly already has solid chemistry with QB Sam Bradford during offseason workouts. "He looked for me a lot at practice," Austin said. "He definitely believes in me and I definitely feel good about myself. He kind of talked to me, let me know the things I'm doing good, the things I'm doing bad as far as landmarks, if I should have kept the corner high or should I bend it off. I definitely believe he got a lot of trust in me and I got trust in him."
Fantasy Tip: Austin is a promising rookie wideout that will immediately become the focal point of Jeff Fisher's offense. Despite lack of size, he has the speed and quickness to beat press coverage consistently. Consider him a risky No. 2 WR that'll likely be more dependable in PPR leagues.
Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:44:04 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick reportedly had a disappointing spring, and he tumbled down the unofficial depth chart, working as the No. 4 receiver as organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp ended. However, it is believed the rookie Tavon Austin, Chris Givens and Austin Pettis just had better practices, as offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had good words for Quick. "(Quick's) doing a lot better. He's stepped up this year. He's just much more comfortable," Schottenheimer said.
Fantasy Tip: As such, unless Quick can work his way back into a starting role, or injuries strike others at the position, he is only worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues.

Wed, 12 Jun 2013 14:56:56 -0700
St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford is working with the same offensive coordinator in consecutive seasons for the first time in his career, but plenty has changed about the team's offense. With RB Steven Jackson gone, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will now run the O through Bradford while trying to bust more big plays. "The speed that we have acquired and what we have on the outside now -- and even the inside -- it suits us more to spread it out and play more one-back this year," Bradford said. He also thinks defenses will have to design specific coverages for some of the speed weapons, a reversal from St. Louis' more predictable offense last season.
Rookie WR Tavon Austin is lining up in the slot, on the outside and in the backfield. Schottenheimer said Austin Pettis has had the strongest offseason of any Rams wideout. TE Jared Cook and WR Brian Quick deepen the amount of players that St. Louis hopes bolsters their red-zone potency.
Fantasy Tip: This Rams offense boasts a lot of intrigue that'll come at cheap prices in fantasy drafts. Bradford's risk has a bit more of an attractive potential behind it as a fantasy backup. Austin may become overvalued eventually but would pass as a WR4 on draft day, along with Chris Givens, their biggest breakthrough player last year. Cook might be a borderline TE1 for most of the year, if not better. Pettis and Quick might be sneaky late-rounders or free-agent bids. You can't write off this offense anymore, at least not for the cost of its pieces.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 18:44:31 -0700
St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford said Thursday, June 6, that he has been impressed by the team's young group of wide receivers, and he has already noticed tremendous improvement. "It's definitely come a long way since two, three weeks ago when we first started with those rookies," Bradford said. "I've been really impressed by some of the young guys that we've had - (WR Tavon Austin) and (WR Stedman Bailey) - I though they've done a great job. We're asking them to play a lot of different positions right now. Of course there's still mistakes, but for the most part they've been extremely sharp."
Sat, 25 May 2013 08:57:01 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin took some handoffs during organized team activities Friday, May 24. Austin rushed for 643 yards and three touchdowns on 72 carries last season at West Virginia. He likely will not receive many carries this season but it is something opponents would have to account for during games.
Fantasy Tip: The team will look for multiple ways to get the ball in Austin's hands this season because of his speed and elusiveness. Owners could consider looking at Austin as a No. 5 fantasy wide receiver in their drafts this season.
