Lions | TEs working on blocking

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 21:43:37 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew and the other tight ends have split time between working on the offensive line and working with the pass-catching receivers and running backs catching passes. Pettigrew worked with the line while TEs Eric Ebron and Joseph Fauria worked on catching passes Tuesday, July 29. "We rotate and go down there during periods," Pettigrew said. "We have five guys here, why not split up and have some guys down there and some guys down here." Pettigrew said this helps his blocking fundamentals, and aids Ebron and Fauria as well.

Lions | Expect a lot of two-tight end sets

Tue, 08 Jul 2014 15:19:26 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said in a Tuesday, July 8 interview that fans should expect an "awful lot" of two-tight end sets this season. Ebron and TEs Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria figure to split time at the position.

Lions | Joseph Fauria to still have role

Thu, 08 May 2014 20:54:26 -0700

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said TE Joseph Fauria will still have a role in the offense even though the team drafted TE Eric Ebron. "Joseph (Fauria) is still going to have a very strong role in the red zone. There's nothing to say that we're not going to have three tight ends on the field at some point," Lombardi said. "Every game is different, every game plan is different, but Joe has impressed me in the short time we've been able to work with him."

Lions | Eric Ebron selected 10th overall

Thu, 08 May 2014 18:12:03 -0700

The Detroit Lions selected North Carolina TE Eric Ebron with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: As if the Lions needed another offensive weapon.... He'll often line up as a wideout and, despite the presence of Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria, Ebron has starter potential in fantasy leagues. He may be overdrafted, though, especially if Detroit doesn't clear target space for him at the position before the season starts. Matthew Stafford remains a top-10 fake-football QB.

Lions | Joseph Fauria expects more production

Thu, 13 Feb 2014 10:30:28 -0800

Detroit Lions TE Joseph Fauria expects to increase his production similar to what New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham has accomplished with new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi on board. Fauria was second on the team with seven touchdowns in his rookie year, and he expects to play an important role in the team's new offense in 2014. Lombardi worked with Graham during his first four years in the league, and Lombardi expects to bring a similar playbook to Detroit. "I told (coach Prince) I wanted to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL," Fauria said. "I think anything less than that is reaching low. I told him I wanted to make plays and help this team out."

Fantasy Tip: Fauria doesn't have the ball-control skills comparable to Graham, but it's entirely possible that he takes a big step forward with Lombardi around. Whether Brandon Pettigrew re-signs will be a big determining factor, too.

Lions | Joseph Fauria expected to start

Fri, 20 Dec 2013 13:31:03 -0800

Detroit Lions TE Joseph Fauria is expected to start in Week 16 against the New York Giants with TE Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) sitting out. TE Dorin Dickerson is likely to be used in two tight end sets, and OG Dylan Gandy could be used in blocking situations.

Fantasy Tip: Fauria should only be an option to plug and play in very deep leagues or setups that allow for two starting tight ends.

Lions | Brandon Pettigrew to miss Week 16

Fri, 20 Dec 2013 13:03:42 -0800

Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 20, and has been ruled out for Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph Fauria likely will receive most of the playing time at tight end with Pettigrew out. Fauria could be a flex option for desperate owners in many leagues but would be a better option in leagues that use two tight ends.

Lions | Brandon Pettigrew on crutches

Wed, 18 Dec 2013 19:17:08 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) was on crutches in the locker room Wednesday, Dec. 18. TEs Dorin Dickerson and Joseph Fauria were the only two healthy tight ends at practice as a result. Head coach Jim Schwartz said Pettigrew's injury was "the most concerning" of anyone who missed practice.

Lions | Jeremy Ross, Joseph Fauria could play in slot

Fri, 08 Nov 2013 13:44:51 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Jeremy Ross or TE Joseph Fauria could see snaps out of the slot position in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears with WR Nate Burleson (forearm) being ruled out.

Fantasy Tip: Fauria is the wiser choice if you're desperately seeking a flex option in a much deeper league.

Lions | Coach explains Joseph Fauria's decreased snaps

Mon, 28 Oct 2013 15:11:49 -0700

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said TE Joseph Fauria received only 15 snaps in the team's Week 8 game because the team was using more three-receiver sets during the game. "I think that everybody's role is going to change from week-to-week and things like that," Schwartz said. "We used a lot of three wide receiver personnel and it only keeps one tight end on the field. That's no reflection on him. He wasn't benched or deemphasized. We wanted to keep them in nickel packages and I thought our offense did a good job."

Lions | Joseph Fauria goes without catch

Sun, 27 Oct 2013 19:49:42 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Joseph Fauria went without a catch in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he wasn't even targeted once in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Fauria's struggles blocking led to a pair of blown assignment, and that curbed his playing time. He should be relied upon for fantasy purposes going forward.

Lions | Brandon Pettigrew limited

Thu, 24 Oct 2013 14:09:34 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 24, with a sore hamstring. TE Joseph Fauria, the only backup on roster, is strictly a pass-catching tight end that has been effective out of the slot.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't appear that Pettigrew's injury is serious, so expect him to suit up in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys - a solid matchup. Both Pettigrew and Fauria are flex options, with Pettigrew a safer option.

Lions | Joseph Fauria could have bigger role

Thu, 10 Oct 2013 18:27:07 -0700

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan indicated TE Joseph Fauria likely will have a bigger role in the offense Week 6 if TE Tony Scheffler (concussion) is not able to play.

Lions | Tony Scheffler may have bigger role

Thu, 26 Sep 2013 14:59:42 -0700

Detroit Lions TEs Tony Scheffler, Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria may have bigger roles after WR Nate Burleson (arm) suffered a broken arm in a car accident. Scheffler had a season-high 21 snaps in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins after playing only four plays in the season opener and 17 snaps in Week 2. He has only been thrown to three times. Scheffler has lined up as a traditional tight end and in the slot so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: Scheffler could see more looks, but with Pettigrew also in the picture, the chances that it'll be enough to make him fantasy relevant are remote.

Lions | Committed to Tony Scheffler

Tue, 20 Aug 2013 17:33:51 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Joseph Fauria might see more playing time in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22, against the New England Patriots, and it might cut into TE Tony Scheffler's reps. However, despite fewer practice reps for Scheffler, the team insists the veteran is still part of the plans in 2013.

Lions | Could keep four tight ends

Wed, 03 Jul 2013 13:14:24 -0700

The Detroit Lions could keep four tight ends on the roster in 2013, although it is more likely they will keep three. The Lions currently have TEs Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Scheffler, Michael Williams, Joseph Fauria and Matt Veldman on the roster.

Lions | Two TEs could compete for one spot

Fri, 21 Jun 2013 14:21:26 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Joseph Fauria may have to outperform TE Tony Scheffler during training camp to earn a roster spot because both are catch-first tight ends and the team may only want to keep one tight end like that.
