Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure is currently believed to be the fourth tailback on the club behind RBs Reggie Bush, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick heading into training camp and the preseason, but general manager Martin Mayhew expects Leshoure to compete for snaps. The team will use an offense similar to the New Orleans Saints, and they occasionally used a fourth tailback.
Fantasy Tip: Leshoure has tumbled down the depth chart due to a rash of his own injuries, and the production of others while he was off the field. He appears to be in the plans still, but ever so slightly. From a fantasy perspective, he should be avoided on draft day unless injuries to others dramatically alter things during training camp and the preseason.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick has the chance to break into the rotation at tailback, and he has drawn considerable praise from his teammates and coaches for his development this offseason. If he proves himself in training camp and the preseason, he could potentially fill a Darren Sproles-like role in the offense.
Fantasy Tip: Riddick is a deep sleeper heading into the season. Remember, he had just 13 offensive touches last season, so he is raw. But he could very well win the No. 3 tailback job in Motown, and might have an even bigger role if Reggie Bush or Joique Bell go down ahead of him.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick looked good during offseason workouts and could be a Pro Bowler if he continues to improve, according to RB Joique Bell. "The only thing I can say is he's going to keep learning and keep getting better. He keeps doing what he's been doing, he'll be a Pro Bowler in no time. I was thinking down the line, but he definitely has the potential to be a great running back in this league," Bell said.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick could surprise some people this season, according to teammate QB Dan Orlovsky. Orlovsky said Riddick has "really, really good vision and suddenness," adding that he'd be surprised if Riddick doesn't get 50 catches.
Fantasy Tip: Orlovsky seems to have turned a blind eye to the rest of his team's backfield. RBs Reggie Bush and Joique Bell are the unquestioned No. 1 and No. 2 running backs for the Lions. Riddick may be a deeper option really, really deep leagues, but, barring an injury to Bush or Bell, he's not draftable in standard leagues.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick had a strong offseason and caught the eye of new head coach Jim Caldwell and his staff, leading to speculation he could have a larger role in the offense.
Fantasy Tip: While Riddick is still behind Reggie Bush on the depth chart, keep in mind only a few people in Detroit knew who Joique Bell was because he played at hometown Wayne State University. People know who Bell is now, so if Riddick gets a chance to shine he could succeed. This is worth monitoring for handcuff purposes.

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush indicated he believes RB Theo Riddick will have a role in the offense this upcoming season because he is hard to cover in passing game. Riddick could receive more snaps this season, because offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi could use Riddick like RB Darren Sproles was used with the New Orleans Saints.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (calf) aggravated his calf injury during pregame warmups in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he did not play. Because Bush's injury happened so late, the team had just two active running backs, RBs Joique Bell and Theo Riddick.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick, who has a similar running style to RB Reggie Bush, saw more playing time in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after Bush lost his second fumble in the last three games. However, head coach Jim Schwartz refuses to say that Bush was benched in the contest. "It was just a couple of plays," Schwartz said. "We didn't have Joique Bell at that time, he had gone out of the game. Reggie had been taking a lot of reps. We wanted to take a little bit of that load off of him. It wasn't more than anything there."

Mon, 23 Sep 2013 11:43:02 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is non-committal on the status of RB Reggie Bush (knee) for the team's Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. Bush said he feels fine and would have played in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins if it were a playoff game. RB Joique Bell had 63 rushing yards and a touchdown and added four catches for 69 yards against the 'Skins. RB Theo Riddick also saw some action out of the backfield.
Fantasy Tip: Monitor Bush's status this week in practice. If he plays Sunday, he's a must-start.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 06:37:04 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) is not expected to play in the team's Week 3 game due to the knee injury. Bush is expected to return in Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: Get Joique Bell into your starting lineups for Week 3, as he will likely get most of the work out of the backfield. Theo Riddick could also see time on third downs as a pass catcher out of the backfield.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 15:04:49 -0700
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell will slide into the leading running back role if RB Reggie Bush (knee) doesn't play in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins. Rookie RB Theo Riddick could then leapfrog RB Mikel Leshoure to be Bell's primary backup. Riddick was the third back in each of the team's first two games while Leshoure was a healthy inactive. Riddick has an advantage because he provides the team with special teams play. "We drafted Theo to come in and have some of the effect that maybe a Reggie might do," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "We were really happy with him doing those things for us in the preseason. If he were called upon, we have all the confidence in the world that he can help us." Riddick doesn't have a touch this year, but he has experience playing in the slot in college.
Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't be wise to start Riddick on blind hope before knowing that Bush is ruled out. Even then, he may not see enough action to justify a starting spot. Leshoure can probably be dropped for now in favor of Riddick, though.
Thu, 29 Aug 2013 17:08:38 -0700
