Jets | Jace Amaro struggling

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 09:16:05 -0700

New York Jets rookie TE Jace Amaro is struggling in his initial workouts. The no-huddle, spread system at Texas Tech is significantly different from the Jets' deeper pro-style playbook. He looked lost in three-wide packages and needs to polish his routes, in-line position, footwork and releases.

Fantasy Tip: Amaro may be overvalued in fantasy drafts based on his college history and raw talent. But if he loses any time to Jeff Cumberland, Zach Sudfeld or Chris Pantale, that's burying him further into waiver-wire territory. For keeper leagues, of course, he's an intriguing hold if you can sit on a TE backup.

Jets | Zach Sudfeld steps up

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 18:02:19 -0800

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld saw an increase in playing time in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints with TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) inactive and TE Kellen Winslow (suspended) serving the last game of a suspension. Sudfeld had two receptions for 46 yards.

Fantasy Tip: With Cumberland and Winslow expected to return in Week 11 after the team's bye, the playing time for Sudfeld is likely to dry up. Avoid him for fantasy purposes.

Patriots | Aaron Dobson, Leon Washington making debuts

Thu, 12 Sep 2013 17:04:37 -0700

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson and RB Leon Washington will make their team debuts in Week 2 against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 12. Dobson missed last week with a hamstring ailment. He and WR Josh Boyce should have bigger roles with WR Danny Amendola (groin) and TE Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) inactive. Washington is likely to be used in the pass-catching role that RB Shane Vereen (wrist) was used in.

Fantasy Tip: Dobson and Washington should receive consideration for a pickup in very deep leagues only, and Dobson's long-term value is much more attractive. Brandon Bolden's upside as a third-down pass-catching back is greater than Washington, and Bolden should become more involved once he gets over his knee injury.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld could be inactive

Thu, 12 Sep 2013 15:08:41 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) is looking like he might be inactive for the team's Week 2 game against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 12.

Fantasy Tip: With Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) also out Thursday, Michael Hoomanawanui would be the Pats' starting tight end if Sudfeld doesn't start. Hoomanawanui should be ignored, though. With Danny Amendola (groin) also out, expect the Patriots to give a heavy workload to Stevan Ridley.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld questionable for Week 2

Wed, 11 Sep 2013 15:39:21 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept 11, and is questionable for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: After an impressive preseason, Sudfeld got off to a slow start in Week 1 and the injury situation will not give fantasy owners anymore confidence. Look elsewhere until Sudfeld can get himself back into the lineup and get more than one look from Tom Brady.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski limited

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 14:57:24 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) was limited during practice Monday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Gronk isn't expected to suit up in Week 2, either, and with Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) dinged up, the Pats may rely more on their receivers again. Julian Edelman, who had a big Week 1, should be snagged off the waiver wire immediately.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld dealing with injury

Mon, 09 Sep 2013 11:02:41 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) is dealing with a pulled hamstring and his status for Week 2 is uncertain at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Michael Hoomanawanui could get the start if Sudfeld and Rob Gronkowski are not able to play in the game. Hoomanawanui could be a low-end No. 1 tight end or flex option this week if he gets significant playing time.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld fails to produce

Sun, 08 Sep 2013 18:18:03 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld was targeted just once in the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills, and he did not have any receptions. In fact, the preseason stud did not even start, as veteran TE Michael Hoomanawanui got the nod. Hoomanawanui managed just one grab for five yards (two targets).

Fantasy Tip: Sudfeld certainly made waves in the preseason, and fantasy owners were quick to take notice during draft season. But he is going to have to see more opportunities before he can be relied upon for fantasy purposes.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski listed as doubtful

Fri, 06 Sep 2013 13:18:54 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) is listed as doubtful for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski likely will not play Week 1 even though he took part in practice this week. Gronkowski could miss another week or two while recovering from back and forearm surgeries. Zach Sudfeld likely will be the starting tight end for the team and should be a low-end No. 1 tight end or flex option.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld will have his chance

Wed, 21 Aug 2013 15:15:20 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld looks like a lock to enter Week 1 as the team's No. 1 tight end if TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) starts the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Sudfeld is 6-foot-7, 260 pounds, which is almost the exact same size as Gronkowski. Sudfeld caught a touchdown pass the team's preseason game last weekend in the red zone on a pattern that Gronkowski has run before. Sudfeld displayed nice run-after-the-catch skills on another play later in the same preseason game. TE Jake Ballard is healthy and has been consistent in camp, too, and his role as a hybrid tight end in the past is similar to Gronkowski.

Fantasy Tip: Sudfeld is emerging as a sleeper candidate at tight end that's worth taking a shot on in the later rounds as a TE2. He's got a great QB throwing him passes in Tom Brady, and his size makes him a nice red zone target.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld taking first-team reps

Wed, 14 Aug 2013 16:08:23 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld took the majority of first-team repetitions in practice Tuesday, Aug. 13, while TEs Daniel Fells and Jake Ballard were on the sidelines. Fells and Ballard are now battling for a roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: Sudfeld is clearly now the No. 1 tight end in training camp, but it remains to be seen if it will stay that way entering Week 1. If Rob Gronkowski (elbow, back) opens on the PUP, Sudfeld will see extensive action in the offense. However, he's still a deep sleeper for fantasy purposes and is more of a TE3.

Patriots | Jake Ballard falling behind competition?

Fri, 09 Aug 2013 11:48:36 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld has looked good in practice, and TE Daniel Fells has reportedly had a solid training camp. TE Jake Ballard, on the other hand, has looked stiff at times, and has fallen behind in the team's competition.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld working with first team

Wed, 07 Aug 2013 21:42:26 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld has been running exclusively with the first-team offense in practice, and he has reportedly been catching everything thrown his way.

Fantasy Tip: Nothing is official, but Sudfeld has reportedly looked like the best tight end on the field. He could have deep, deep sleeper written all over him, as the team looks for an option to replace Aaron Hernandez.

Patriots | Jake Ballard having problems with recovery

Mon, 05 Aug 2013 16:01:43 -0700

New England Patriots TE Jake Ballard (knee) has slowed down over the last few days and was not moving around as before because he is still recovering from knee surgery. His absence has allowed TE Zach Sudfeld to perform well during practice.

Patriots | Zach Sudfeld is a dark horse

Fri, 28 Jun 2013 19:29:37 -0700

New England Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld, an undrafted free agent from Nevada, reportedly showed impressive pass-catching skills and dependable hands during offseason workouts. He might be ready to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster given the upheaval at the tight end position in Foxboro during the offseason.
