The Minnesota Twins may soon designate 1B Chris Colabello for assignment, according to sources. Colabello was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Aug. 9, and his .222 average in his most recent 19 games and the performance of some players in the minors suggest Colabello's time might be up.

Minnesota Twins 1B Chris Colabello, DH Kendrys Morales and OF Chris Parmelee are expected to receive time at first base while 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) is on the 15-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: It is not known how the playing time will be split, but all probably will get some time at first base. Morales is probably owned in most leagues, so owners in deeper mixed leagues can consider adding Colabello or Parmelee. Colabello is a better option at this point since he was playing well before he was called up to the team.

The Minnesota Twins placed 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain. Minnesota recalled 1B/OF Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester.
Fantasy Tip: Shame -- he was starting to turn things around, including running off an ongoing 12-game hit streak. Mauer's disappointing season becomes even more depressing. At least you can stash him without having him hurt you in the lineup. This could be a lengthy absence, though. Colabello, meanwhile, regains some juice in deep-mixed leagues and might be worth checking out. Despite his slump before his demotion, he had a scorching start to the season.

Minnesota Twins 1B Chris Colabello is hitting .149/.200/.234 with one home run and three RBIs in 13 games in May after hitting .295/.343/.484 with three home runs and 27 RBIs in 24 games in April. Manager Ron Gardenhire thinks Colabello tired out by playing every day. "I think he needed (a break), because we pressed him to the limit and played him an awful lot, so I think he got a little worn down," Gardenhire said. "We used him as a pinch-hitter the last few days. But he has a great attitude."

Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer (back) missed his fourth straight game with lower back spasms Thursday, May 8, and manager Ron Gardenhire said Mauer could land on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: If you own Mauer, it's time to start considering adding another catcher to prepare for a prolonged absence. Chris Colabello can handle the first base duties for the Twinkies with Mauer out.

Minnesota Twins 1B Chris Colabello drove in four runs Wednesday, April 23. He leads the league with 26 RBIs.
Fantasy Tip: Colabello is a tricky fantasy asset. He's a 30-year-old journeyman that the average fantasy owner knows little about. You could keep him and hope this advanced-age surge is for real or sell high and earn a profit from your waiver claim or low draft pick.
