Fantasy Tip: McGloin has received only limited playing time since entering the NFL and has recorded 1,868 yards, 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in four seasons. McGloin may sign with a team looking for a starting quarterback but should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Raiders | Connor Cook prepping to start

Tue, 03 Jan 2017 07:11:51 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Connor Cook is being groomed to start the wild-card playoff game against the Houston Texans with QB Matt McGloin (shoulder) expected to be out, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cook was 14-for-21 (66.7%) for 150 yards, one touchdown and one pick in Week 17. The Texans were a midrange defense against the position the last five weeks of the season. The rookie is worth consideration if you're looking for a DFS discount, but it's really hard to expect a lot with his feet to the fire.

Raiders | Oakland starter unclear at this point

Mon, 02 Jan 2017 16:46:46 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin (shoulder) underwent an MRI and is sore, but head coach Jack Del Rio is unsure who will start between McGloin and QB Connor Cook in the wild-car round of the playoffs. "Between Connor and Matt, we'll see who can get the most reps and who we feel the most comfortable putting in the game," Del Rio said.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever starts won't be worth starting in playoff leagues. Neither played well in Week 17, albeit against an elite Denver Broncos pass defense.

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 15:20:38 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin (shoulder) left the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos due to a shoulder injury. He was taken to the locker room and is questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Connor Cook checked into the game for McGloin. It was bad enough with Derek Carr going down last week to a serious injury, but now the Raiders might be down to their No. 3 QB heading into the playoffs.

Raiders | Matt McGloin will start Week 17

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 16:30:21 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin will start in Week 17, while QB Connor Cook will serve as the backup.

Fantasy Tip: There will be a few backups starting the final week of the season, either because of secured playoff seeds or injuries. That being said, McGloin is far from startable against the Denver Broncos.

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 19:56:50 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin finished up the Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts, taking over for the injured QB Derek Carr (leg).

Fantasy Tip: McGloin will be the starting quarterback in Week 17 and into the playoffs, as Derek Carr snapped his fibula in the home finale. He is an interesting DFS sleeper in Week 17, and he could be a sleeper in postseason fantasy leagues, too.

Raiders | Connor Cook impressing

Sun, 15 May 2016 10:53:55 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Connor Cook will vie for the backup position with QB Matt McGloin. Cook impressed head coach Jack Del Rio at rookie minicamp. "I think he's been outstanding," Del Rio said. "Obviously he is intelligent. He asks good questions. He's got arm talent. It's a matter of getting familiar [with] what we do and how we do it."

Fantasy Tip: Cook will be second fiddle to Derek Carr as long as Carr is healthy, so his fantasy value will be minimal in traditional leagues.

Raiders | Derek Carr not expected to play in Week 2

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 13:22:26 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (thumb) is not expected to play in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, according to sources. Carr was replaced by QB Matt McGloin after injuring his hand in Week 1. Carr completed seven of 12 passes for 61 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals before being hurt.

Fantasy Tip: Even with Terrell Suggs out for the year, the Ravens defense is a daunting task with an improved secondary if McGloin has to make the start. That'll make all of Oakland's offensive weapons much less intriguing to FantasyScore players, especially in the passing game.

Raiders | Derek Carr unable to return

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 16:35:47 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (hand) left the Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals in the second quarter due to a hand injury. The severity of his injury is unknown. QB Matt McGloin checked into the game and finished.

Fantasy Tip: Carr ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) did not get off to a good start for FantasyScore players that maybe were thinking he could have a big day connecting with rookie Amari Cooper. If Carr cannot go in Week 2 and beyond, McGloin ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) might be a cheap option going forward. McGloin is worth adding in standard fantasy leagues which require two starting QBs.

Raiders | Future QB on roster?

Tue, 31 Dec 2013 08:53:31 -0800

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen isn't sure if the team's future quarterback is currently on their roster. Allen has said QB Matt McGloin has a future with the team but hasn't been as optimistic about QB Terrelle Pryor. "I'm not sure that we have the quarterback of the future in the building right now, but again I think we'll go through the offseason evaluation process, I think we'll go back through all the tapes, we'll comb through everything. I do think we have a better idea of what we have at the quarterback position, but again I think, listen, that's the most important position on the football field," Allen said.

Raiders | Agent for Terrelle Pryor angry

Mon, 23 Dec 2013 20:23:54 -0800

The agent for Oakland Raiders RB Terrelle Pryor is angry that head coach Dennis Allen is starting his client in the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos. Pryor's agent said Monday, Dec. 23, that he feels starting Pryor was the move of a desperate coach setting a young quarterback up to fail. "I think they're putting him in hopes that he fails," Stanley said. "That's what I think coach is doing. I think they're putting him in hopes that he has a bad game, so he can then justify (starting QB Matt McGloin previously). I think that's what going on, I do and it's ridiculous."

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said Monday, Dec. 9, that QB Matt McGloin will start the final three regular season games, with QB Terrelle Pryor seeing spot duty.
