Rams | Tre Mason could be top RB option

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 12:08:10 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason could be the top candidate for a majority of carries since he is averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Mason rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries in Week 7 and received most of the carries because he had the hot hand, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. RB Zac Stacy was announced the starter for Week 7 but only played one snap. RB Benny Cunningham only rushed for three yards during the game. Stacy is averaging 3.93 yards per carry this season, while Cunningham is averaging 3.78 yards per carry.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Mason probably will receive most of the work at running back for the time being. Mason costs $4,900 on FantasyScore and could be a nice flex option for owners.

Rams | Zac Stacy nearly non-existent

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 14:01:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not have any touches in the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams used a combination of RBs Tre Mason, who had 85 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Benny Cunningham, who led the team with 46 receiving yards and a score.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy actually played just one total snap into the third quarter, and clearly has fallen out of favor in St. Louis. He is worth keeping on a roster in yearly leagues, but FantasyScore won't want to go near him going forward.

Rams | Tre Mason makes most of chance

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 21:34:43 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason was active last week for the first time all season, and he played nine snaps with six touches. He finished with five carries for 40 yards and a reception for 12 yards. He was active for the first time because RB Chase Reynolds (hip) was inactive due to injury. Mason is expected to join RBs Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham in a running-back-by-committee approach. "Well, early in the game we try to get guys multiple touches," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Friday, Oct. 17. "That's part of the deal. Then we try to go with the hot hand late in the game. Most places that I've been that have really good running games, they had the people to spread the ball around."

Fantasy Tip: Mason isn't quite ready for FantasyScore usage just yet, even at a tempting $3,000 salary (or 6.0 percent of the cap). He won't see nearly enough touches. However, monitor the situation, and if he sees an increase over his six touches in Week 6, he might be worth using down the road. Stacy $5,400 (or 10.8 percent of the cap) is probably the best fantasy bet, but he is a bit overpriced considering how crowded the backfield is.

Rams | Zac Stacy listed as probable

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 14:00:54 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 17, and is listed as probable.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy has been sharing carries with other running backs and probably will continue to do so in Week 7. Stacy costs $5,400 on FantasyScore, which may be too expensive for some owners.

Rams | Zac Stacy practices in full

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 18:17:36 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy struggled against the run defense of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, managing just 17 yards on eight carries. He faces another tough matchup in Week 7 with the Seattle Seahawks coming to town. Stacy's $5,400 salary (10.8 percent of cap) at FantasyScore won't break the bank, but it is still hard to justify using him given the matchup.

Rams | No practice for Zac Stacy

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 16:51:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy ($5,400; 10.8 percent of cap) is not an attractive play in FantasyScore, as he is apparently not 100 percent, and he is in a three-man rotation with Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham. Avoid him for now until he re-establishes himself as the bona fide No. 1 option in the St. Louis backfield.

Rams | Zac Stacy healthy

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 06:23:26 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) had no injury issues in Week 6 when the team decided to use a three-man rotation at running back, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy ($5,400; 10.8% of your cap) hasn't approached 100 yards in a game, and his stock is falling considerably. However, he is the type of runner that can give the Seattle Seahawks fits and wear them down. Stacy's breakout game came against them last season when he rushed 26 times for 134 yards. He's a risky RB2 on FantasyScore this week.

Rams | St. Louis could stick with RB rotation

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 16:24:59 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason may continue to head a three-man rotation in the backfield, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy is still the running back to own in St. Louis, but his value is quickly dwindling. Keep an eye on how much playing time he sees in the coming weeks.

Rams | Zac Stacy active against Niners

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 16:14:45 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) and WR Kenny Britt (knee) are both active for the team's Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Oct. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy wasn't an attractive option at FantasyScore this week because of his injury status in a Monday night game. The Rams could have Benny Cunningham share much of the workload with him.

Rams | Zac Stacy probable

Sat, 11 Oct 2014 14:34:55 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) is probable for Week 6 Monday, Oct. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy ($5,400; 10.8% of your cap) is at a great price on FantasyScore, but he has a tough matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. You could do worse if you're bargain shopping at RB2.

Rams | Zac Stacy practices in full

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 17:45:20 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) was listed as a full participant in practice Friday, Oct. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy is looking like a good possibility to play in the Week 6 game against San Francisco Monday, Oct. 12, but he has a difficult matchup. FantasyScore owners should avoid using him.

Rams | Zac Stacy misses practices

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 17:21:10 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 9, but will still have a chance to play in the team's Week 6 game, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Stacy does suit up and is close to 100 percent, he could have a tough time providing much value. He hasn't rushed for more than 71 yards in a game this season, and the Rams face a San Francisco defense in Week 6 that is allowing the fifth-fewest rushing yards per game. Stacy should probably be avoided at FantasyScore in Week 6.

Rams | Zac Stacy expected to play

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 15:32:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) could miss some practice time this week but should be able to play in Week 6, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy may be able to play in Week 6, but he could also be limited by his injury. Owners could consider Stacy as a flex option until he shows he can be healthy or could bench him if they have better options.

Rams | Zac Stacy has strained calf

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 12:19:58 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (calf) suffered a strained calf in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy should be able to play this week, but will probably split time with an up-and-coming Benny Cunningham.

Rams | Rams to ride hot hand at RB?

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 11:08:13 -0700

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said he expects the team to ride the "hot hand" any given week at running back, according to a source. As a result, RB Benny Cunningham could cut into RB Zac Stacy's workload immediately in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. Stacy had 250 carries in just 12 starts last year and was among the league leaders in carries per game. Cunningham had just 47 carries last year, but he impressed the team in training camp and the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: We warned folks not to overvalue Stacy's work last year too much in drafts leading up to the 2014 season. This week against the Vikes, Stacy ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) isn't a wise FantasyScore investment, and it may be tough to find the right time to start him moving forward if Cunningham cuts into his workload significantly. Look to pick up Cunningham at a low investment in standard leagues if you're already searching for running back depth.

Rams | Benny Cunningham may get snaps

Thu, 28 Aug 2014 09:43:14 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham has been the team's best running back during the preseason and could push RB Zac Stacy for playing time this season.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy likely will enter the season as the starter, but Cunningham could get some carries during games. Owners should only consider Cunningham has a handcuff to Stacy in deeper leagues. Tre Mason probably has the most value among the team's backup running backs.

Rams | Sam Bradford out for season

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 13:10:07 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) is out for the season after an MRI revealed a torn left anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Zac Stacy will be relied upon even heavier with Shaun Hill as the quarterback. Stacy is a low-end RB2. Tavon Austin's stock could take a slight hit, but he remains a solid WR4. Kenny Britt is still worth a late-round flier as a WR5.

Rams | Zac Stacy does not start

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 09:30:08 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not start in the third preseason game, because the team wanted to see what RB Benny Cunningham would do with the first-team offense, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher said the team knows what Stacy can do with the starting offense.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy likely will be the starting running back this season and get a majority of the carries. Stacy probably will be a weekly flex option in most leagues.

Rams | Tre Mason struggling with pass protection

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 10:20:02 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason still has to work on becoming a better pass blocker after he allowed two sacks in the second preseason game, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. "Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest challenges for the position," Fisher said. "To learn how to play without the football. Guys have run skills, can carry the ball and run, and do those kind of things. But it's playing without the football. It's protection. Tre needs to keep working on it."

Fantasy Tip: Zac Stacy likely will enter the season as the starting running back, but Mason has a chance to take over the job at some point during the season. Mason likely will be taken in the later rounds of fantasy drafts but has the potential to become a starter for an owner. Mason could also be a handcuff to Stacy during drafts.

Rams | Zac Stacy leaves practice

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 20:49:55 -0700

St. Louis Ram RB Zac Stacy (undisclosed) left practice early Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Rams | Tre Mason works with first-team

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 19:21:13 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason saw received some snaps with the first-team Tuesday, July 29, with RB Zac Stacy receiving a majority of the work with the first-team.

Fantasy Tip: Mason could end being a nice change-of-pace back for the Rams, but Stacy is set to receive a bulk of the carries. Consider Stacy a solid RB2 this season.

Rams | RB competition being pushed by OC

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 11:16:26 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy isn't officially the team's starting running back. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer reiterated that RBs Benny Cunningham, Tre Mason and Isaiah Pead will all compete with Stacy for starter status. Schottenheimer added that each running back has a different skill set that will be used "throughout the course of the year."

Fantasy Tip: It's still too early to make too much out of the St. Louis running back situation, but it's still not good news for Stacy. While Stacy may still get most of the playing time, he probably won't be called on as much as he was last season. Still, he's a solid RB2 option in standard leagues. If we were to choose a St. Louis running back to bet on other than Stacy, it would probably be Mason.

Rams | Zac Stacy focused on pass protection

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 11:19:03 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy is focusing on pass protection this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: If Stacy can improve his pass protection, heíll likely get more playing time. That being said, he still has competition, mainly coming from rookie Tre Mason. Right now, consider Stacy a high-end RB2 in standard leagues.

Rams | Four could compete for No. 4 RB job

Mon, 26 May 2014 23:24:56 -0700

The St. Louis Rams will likely use RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason in the first three slots on the depth chart. In the fourth spot it could be a competition between RBs Isaiah Pead, Chase Reynolds, Kadeem Jones and Trey Watts.

Rams | Select Tre Mason 75th overall

Fri, 09 May 2014 19:08:09 -0700

The St. Louis Rams selected Auburn RB Tre Mason with the 75th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Mason will be a change-up option to lead back Zac Stacy. He'll essentially be the next Isaiah Pead and have occasional but limited fantasy use unless Stacy misses time. Mason also has wrist troubles of his own to worry about.

Rams | Zac Stacy hinted at being lead back

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 05:14:21 -0700

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher hinted that RB Zac Stacy could be the team's lead back. "I think over time, he'll probably be that 70-percent of the carries guy," Fisher said.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy has a lot of uncertainty around him, but he has some upside as an RB3. He doesn't have a lot in the form of competition as well.

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy is expected to get more carries in 2014, according to general manager Les Snead. "He should be more productive because he should have more carries," Snead said.

Fantasy Tip: Fantastic news for Stacy's fantasy owners. Stacy should have more value and probably needs to be moved up on running back draft lists heading into the offseason.

Rams | Confident in stable of RBs

Mon, 16 Dec 2013 17:30:11 -0800

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher wasn't ready to commit to RB Zac Stacy long term just yet, but he is happy with Stacy and the group of running backs as a whole. "I think we've got a good group of backs. We'll discuss needs when the season's over, but I think based on what we've seen in the production from that position I think we have a good group of running backs for the future," Fisher said Monday, Dec. 16.

Mon, 16 Dec 2013 15:11:45 -0800

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said RB Zac Stacy (hip) will be dealing with a sore hip this week and likely will not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy's injury doesn't look to be serious, so he should suit up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Consider him a pretty safe RB2 if he's on the field.

Rams | Zac Stacy has hip injury

Mon, 16 Dec 2013 12:45:04 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (hip) suffered a hip injury on the first drive in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints. "I just took a shot ... (the doctors and trainers) fixed it up for me and I went back out there," he said. "I'm a competitor. I want to get back on the field as much as I can to help this team and this organization be successful."

Fantasy Tip: It looks as though Stacy shouldn't have any trouble playing in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He needs to be in your lineup as an RB2.

Rams | Zac Stacy needs push for 1,000 yards

Wed, 11 Dec 2013 00:40:17 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy enters Week 15 with 721 rushing yards and is in pursuit of a 1,000-yard rushing season, which would make him just the third by a rookie in team history, joining Jerome Bettis in 1993 and Eric Dickerson in 1983. Eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark would require him to perform just beyond his per-game average of 79 yards in his nine starts this season.

Rams | Zac Stacy probable

Fri, 29 Nov 2013 13:52:31 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (concussion) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 29, and is listed as probable for Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers. He passed the final hurdle for his concussion tests Friday and has been cleared to play this Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: The matchup against the Niners is a tough one, but if Stacy is playing, he's at least an RB2 or flex play, assuming he isn't limited by a great deal. Benny Cunningham is a weak flex play now that Stacy is expected to suit up.

Rams | No definitive update on Zac Stacy

Mon, 25 Nov 2013 17:03:16 -0800

The St. Louis Rams provided no definitive update on RB Zac Stacy (concussion), who suffered a head injury in the Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears. Head coach Jeff Fisher said Monday, Nov. 25, that Stacy, and CB Trumaine Johnson (head) and OG Chris Williams (head), will each be monitored this week before any determination is made on their availability for the Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers. "We have a series of things that we do today, tomorrow and Wednesday," Fisher said. "Right now everybody is doing fine."

Fantasy Tip: If Stacy is unable to go in Week 13, Benny Cunningham did a solid job replacing him Sunday, and would be the odds-on favorite to start. He will be a popular pick off the waiver wire. He is worth using as an RB3 or flex play if he indeed gets the starting nod.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy is now firmly on the fantasy football map after having a breakout performance against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9. Fantasy Tip: It was a good sign that Stacy was able to do anything, and he still has two full practice days to go until the official injury report comes out. He is sounding like he will be questionable for the upcoming week, but we'll know more Friday. If you normally rely on him for fantasy purposes, it's a good idea to start getting alternates ready just in case.
