Buccaneers | Mike James running with twos

Sat, 26 Jul 2014 14:36:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James is working with the second-team offense Saturday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: It's still early, and Bobby Rainey could still figure into the mix at the No. 2 RB. Whichever player wins that role will likely have RB4 or RB5 value.

Buccaneers | Want to use rotation at RB

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 13:15:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Bobby Rainey, Mike James, Charles Sims and Jeff Demps will be vying for carries behind RB Doug Martin in training camp. Martin is the team's starting running back, but the team wants to use a rotation in the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Martin clearly is the starter and should be drafted as an RB1. However, they'll look to spell him when they can. Stay tuned for who stands out as his primary backup during training camp and the preseason.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims' likely role

Fri, 30 May 2014 06:22:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is the most likely among the backups to have a weekly role behind starter Doug Martin, in the opinion of Scott Smith, because of Sims' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Martin will probably cede a few carries and third-down work to Sims.

Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey profile more closely to handcuff status because of the underrated power in their games. One of them may be a cut candidate. Sims is a decent late-rounds PPR gamble but is unlikely to be considered top dog if Martin were to struggle or suffer an injury. As for Martin's fantasy value, he should still get the lion's share on his way to low-end RB1 numbers; he has plenty of rebound potential.

Tue, 12 Nov 2013 12:35:09 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said RB Mike James (ankle) will miss the rest of the year with a broken left ankle.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't be a huge surprised after it was announced last night that he had fractured his ankle. Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey will combine to split the backfield duties. Both are worth a waiver wire claim as RB depth for your roster.

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 20:24:56 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James (ankle) had X-rays which revealed a fractured ankle, according to a source. He is out indefinitely.

Fantasy Tip: With James out of action, Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey saw the bulk of the carries. Rainey actually looked pretty good late in the game, scoring his first touchdown of the season. He might be the best bet for carries going forward.

Buccaneers | Mike James won't affect Doug Martin

Thu, 07 Nov 2013 09:33:58 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said the recent success of RB Mike James has no bearing on the decision whether RB Doug Martin (shoulder) plays again this year. Martin has been inactive since Oct. 20 and will need surgery on his left shoulder at some point in the offseason. James ran for 158 yards in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks and is averaging 4.6 yards on 55 carries.

Buccaneers | Mike James solid

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 08:29:13 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James rushed 28 times for 158 yards against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second straight week a rusher has torched the Seattle defense. James has little in the form of competition in Tampa and is a good RB3 right now.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 31.

Buccaneers | Optimistic about Doug Martin

Thu, 24 Oct 2013 13:27:18 -0700

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are optimistic that they'll have RB Doug Martin (shoulder) back at some point this season since they play one game in the next 18 days after their Week 8 contest Thursday, Oct. 24. Martin will strengthen his shoulder and wear a harness over the next 18 days, and the target date for his return is Nov. 11. If he experiences a setback, he'll be shut down for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for Martin owners. Continue to keep him stashed on your roster. In the meantime, if you haven't already, Mike James is the waiver wire addition if you need another body at the RB spot. He'll receive the majority of work in Martin's absence.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin ruled out

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 15:19:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, and is ruled out for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: It's positive for Martin's owners that he's not ruled out for the year, but it'll likely be some time before he's able to return to action. Mike James will start against the Carolina Panthers and should get the majority of touches with Martin sidelined. Consider James an RB2 or flex.

Buccaneers | Mike James solid in relief

Mon, 21 Oct 2013 10:35:18 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Mike James was solid in filling in for injured RB Doug Martin (shoulder) in the team's Week 7 game. James carried the ball 14 times for 45 yards. "You hate to see anyone go down, but it felt good to get out there and help,'' said James, who had only three carries for 12 yards going into Sunday's matchup. "From the first time I played football, I always wanted to run with a lean."

Buccaneers | Doug Martin likely out a few weeks

Mon, 21 Oct 2013 08:05:08 -0700

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) is likely to miss several weeks with what is initially being deemed a serious shoulder injury.

Fantasy Tip: There are reports that Martin may have a torn labrum, so this could be something more serious than just a few weeks - it could be season-ending. Mike James should be picked up in all formats, but temper your expectations. Martin wasn't playing particularly well in the dismal offense. James shouldn't be viewed as more than a RB3 or flex player.

Thu, 29 Aug 2013 09:24:40 -0700

The battle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup running back position behind RB Doug Martin is close between RBs Brian Leonard, Mike James and Peyton Hillis. If the Buccaneers chose to only keep three running backs, Hillis could be the odd man out, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.

Buccaneers | Peyton Hillis may not make roster

Tue, 13 Aug 2013 15:29:39 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Hillis hasn't looked good in the last two years and isn't a lock for the roster. RB Brian Leonard had a good showing in the first preseason game, and the team likes RB Mike James as an all-around runner.

Fri, 09 Aug 2013 09:09:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Hillis (knee) suffered a hyperextended knee, and it is considered a minor injury.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for Hillis, as he continues to battle with Mike James and Brian Leonard to back up Doug Martin, that it does not appear he will miss much time.
