Rams | Zac Stacy nearly non-existent

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 14:01:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not have any touches in the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams used a combination of RBs Tre Mason, who had 85 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Benny Cunningham, who led the team with 46 receiving yards and a score.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy actually played just one total snap into the third quarter, and clearly has fallen out of favor in St. Louis. He is worth keeping on a roster in yearly leagues, but FantasyScore won't want to go near him going forward.

Rams | Benny Cunningham starts

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 10:11:00 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham received the start in the team's Week 7 game.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham is part of a committee at running back and will be sharing carries for the time being. Cunningham could receive more carries if he produces on the field, which would make him a flex option for owners.

Rams | Tre Mason makes most of chance

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 21:34:43 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason was active last week for the first time all season, and he played nine snaps with six touches. He finished with five carries for 40 yards and a reception for 12 yards. He was active for the first time because RB Chase Reynolds (hip) was inactive due to injury. Mason is expected to join RBs Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham in a running-back-by-committee approach. "Well, early in the game we try to get guys multiple touches," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Friday, Oct. 17. "That's part of the deal. Then we try to go with the hot hand late in the game. Most places that I've been that have really good running games, they had the people to spread the ball around."

Fantasy Tip: Mason isn't quite ready for FantasyScore usage just yet, even at a tempting $3,000 salary (or 6.0 percent of the cap). He won't see nearly enough touches. However, monitor the situation, and if he sees an increase over his six touches in Week 6, he might be worth using down the road. Stacy $5,400 (or 10.8 percent of the cap) is probably the best fantasy bet, but he is a bit overpriced considering how crowded the backfield is.

Rams | St. Louis could stick with RB rotation

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 16:24:59 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason may continue to head a three-man rotation in the backfield, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy is still the running back to own in St. Louis, but his value is quickly dwindling. Keep an eye on how much playing time he sees in the coming weeks.

Rams | Rams to ride hot hand at RB?

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 11:08:13 -0700

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said he expects the team to ride the "hot hand" any given week at running back, according to a source. As a result, RB Benny Cunningham could cut into RB Zac Stacy's workload immediately in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. Stacy had 250 carries in just 12 starts last year and was among the league leaders in carries per game. Cunningham had just 47 carries last year, but he impressed the team in training camp and the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: We warned folks not to overvalue Stacy's work last year too much in drafts leading up to the 2014 season. This week against the Vikes, Stacy ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) isn't a wise FantasyScore investment, and it may be tough to find the right time to start him moving forward if Cunningham cuts into his workload significantly. Look to pick up Cunningham at a low investment in standard leagues if you're already searching for running back depth.

Rams | Benny Cunningham may get snaps

Thu, 28 Aug 2014 09:43:14 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham has been the team's best running back during the preseason and could push RB Zac Stacy for playing time this season.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy likely will enter the season as the starter, but Cunningham could get some carries during games. Owners should only consider Cunningham has a handcuff to Stacy in deeper leagues. Tre Mason probably has the most value among the team's backup running backs.

Rams | Zac Stacy does not start

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 09:30:08 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not start in the third preseason game, because the team wanted to see what RB Benny Cunningham would do with the first-team offense, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher said the team knows what Stacy can do with the starting offense.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy likely will be the starting running back this season and get a majority of the carries. Stacy probably will be a weekly flex option in most leagues.

Rams | RB competition being pushed by OC

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 11:16:26 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy isn't officially the team's starting running back. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer reiterated that RBs Benny Cunningham, Tre Mason and Isaiah Pead will all compete with Stacy for starter status. Schottenheimer added that each running back has a different skill set that will be used "throughout the course of the year."

Fantasy Tip: It's still too early to make too much out of the St. Louis running back situation, but it's still not good news for Stacy. While Stacy may still get most of the playing time, he probably won't be called on as much as he was last season. Still, he's a solid RB2 option in standard leagues. If we were to choose a St. Louis running back to bet on other than Stacy, it would probably be Mason.

Rams | Four could compete for No. 4 RB job

Mon, 26 May 2014 23:24:56 -0700

The St. Louis Rams will likely use RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason in the first three slots on the depth chart. In the fourth spot it could be a competition between RBs Isaiah Pead, Chase Reynolds, Kadeem Jones and Trey Watts.

Rams | Three could be options as kick returner

Sat, 14 Dec 2013 09:30:56 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham, RB Isaiah Pead and WR Chris Givens could be kick returner options Week 15 if WR Tavon Austin (ankle) is not able to play.
