Rams | Benny Cunningham finds end zone

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 20:33:33 -0700

Los Angeles Rams RB Benny Cunningham rushed four times for 23 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Dallas Cowboys. He also had one reception for 20 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham is an impressive back behind Todd Gurley, but he'll obviously see few touches as long as the second-year stud running back is healthy. Even with Gurley healthy, Cunningham could have some value in deeper PPR leagues as a third-down option.

Rams | Todd Gurley to play more on third down?

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 20:18:28 -0700

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley will likely see some playing time on third downs, according to beat writer Myles Simmons, but Simmons believes RB Benny Cunningham will still see most of the snaps in third-and-long situations.

Fantasy Tip: Gurley isn't going to come off the field often, and he should be either the first or second running back off the board. Even as the main third-down back, Cunningham is only a late-round flier in PPR formats.

Rams | Benny Cunningham returning to Rams

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 09:42:48 -0700

Los Angeles Rams restricted free-agent RB Benny Cunningham signed his tender offer Friday, April 8, to remain with the Rams. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham is buried on St. Louis' depth chart right now behind stud Todd Gurley and Tre Mason, so it would likely take an injury ahead of him to make Cunningham fantasy relevant outside of the deepest leagues.

Patriots | Benny Cunningham visiting Patriots

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:11:20 -0800

Los Angeles Rams restricted free-agent RB Benny Cunningham is visiting with the New England Patriots Thursday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham is probably no more than a RB5 handcuff if he remains with the Rams.

Rams | Benny Cunningham tendered

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:22:27 -0800

St. Louis Rams restricted free-agent RB Benny Cunningham received the low tender Wednesday, March 9.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham isn't guaranteed to return to the Rams, he's an underrated pass-catching running back and a valuable kick returner. He'll have PPR value wherever he plays, but don't view him as a starter.

Rams | Benny Cunningham still has role

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 17:40:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham still has a significant role with the Rams despite Todd Gurley and Tre Mason in front of him in the St. Louis backfield. Cunningham's value lies in the return game and in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham has much more fantasy value in leagues that reward receptions and kick return yardage. He won't see many opportunities to run the ball as long as Gurley and Mason are healthy, but he's still be active as a pass-catcher and returner.

Rams | Friday injury report for Week 4

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 14:23:48 -0700

St. Louis Rams DE Eugene Sims (knee) and S Mo Alexander (groin) have been ruled out for Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals. RB Chase Reynolds (knee) is doubtful, while LB James Laurinaitis (non-injury) and RB Benny Cunningham (knee) are probable. Reynolds, Sims, Cunningham and Alexander did not practice Friday, Oct. 2, while Laurinaitis practiced in full.

Rams | St. Louis not running ball well

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 17:11:10 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Todd Gurley, Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham have attributed to the Rams' league-worst 111 rushing yards in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Gurley missed the first two games of the season, and only ran for nine yards in his NFL debut in Week 3. He needs some time to get going. It may still be too soon to start Gurley ($4,400, 8.8% of cap), so look for other options at running back on FantasyScore.

Rams | Benny Cunningham totals 30 yards

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 17:05:36 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham carried once for 12 yards in the Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and he added two receptions for 18 yards on his only two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was just behind Tre Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) in total yards from scrimmage, while Todd Gurley ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) also debuted with 14 yards on seven touches. Cunningham was actually the best FantasyScore value, but that's not saying much. This three-headed backfield is a work in progress, and fantasy players are the loser picking any of them right now.

Rams | Benny Cunningham might have company

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 19:20:02 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham shouldered the load in Week 1 with RB Tre Mason (hamstring) and rookie RB Todd Gurley (knee) inactive. However, Mason and Gurley each practiced in full, and all indications are Mason might be able to debut this week.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) did a great job against a solid Seattle defense in the opener, but he is now likely to split reps with Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), who practiced in full and declared himself ready. Cunningham isn't as good of a value as he was in Week 1.

Rams | Tre Mason will not play in Week 1

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 08:34:29 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) has been declared inactive for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks. RB Benny Cunningham will be the starting running back for the Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should see most of the work at running back with Mason and Todd Gurley sidelined. He be facing a tough defense but could be a cheaper starting option on FantasyScore.

Rams | Tre Mason does not appear ready

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 07:34:02 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason's (thigh) playing status for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks does not appear to be optimistic at this point. RB Benny Cunningham likely would start at running back if Mason is not able to play.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) probably should be avoided by fantasy owners, because he could be limited if he active for the game. Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will be facing a tough opponent but could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore to consider.

Rams | Stream Benny Cunningham in Week 1?

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 18:26:39 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) might be a game-time decision for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, so RB Benny Cunningham could have a much bigger role in the opener game.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could see plenty of touches against the Seahawks, although he would be more of a stream option if he were facing a less formidable defense. Still, he could surprise and save FantasyScore plenty of salary to spread across other spots.

Rams | Tre Mason questionable for Week 1

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 16:13:14 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is questionable for Week 1. "Tre's doing good," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "He had two treatment sessions today, and he's doing well. So we'll see how he is during the week." RB Benny Cunningham is expected to have a larger role whether Mason plays or not.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) sounds like an iffy play on FantasyScore against the stout Seattle Seahawks. Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be a decent low-end play.

Rams | Benny Cunningham on third down

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 05:29:07 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham will continue to be the third-down back in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham had a couple of big games last season, and head coach Jeff Fisher noted that Cunningham was the best blocker of the running backs. That will keep him on the field. He's an RB5 in fantasy.

Rams | Isaiah Pead could be dumped by Rams

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 17:18:29 -0800

The St. Louis Rams might consider releasing RB Isaiah Pead this offseason. The move would create just under $941,000 of additional cap space. The club has RBs Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham, Zac Stacy and Trey Watts on the roster, and Pead hasn't had much impact since being drafted in the second round in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Pead has been a huge disappointment, and he is well buried on the depth chart. He could latch on with another organization if released, but he has a long way to go to climb back into the fantasy picture.

Rams | St. Louis to stick with one RB?

Sat, 01 Nov 2014 12:30:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason have split repetitions in the Rams' backfield this year, but head coach Jeff Fisher hinted that the team could stick with one guy going forward, though he didn't indicate who that would be.

Fantasy Tip: Mason has performed the best on the ground so far this year while Cunningham has done well in the passing game. Stacy has seen a relegated role of late, so he may end up being the odd man out. For now, it's best to avoid all of them.

Rams | Rams split RB snaps evenly in Week 8

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 13:10:29 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham each were on the field for 18 snaps in Week 8. RB Zac Stacy received 15 snaps during the game.

Fantasy Tip: None of the running backs had big offensive games in Week 8, so they all probably will continue to receive some playing time moving forward. Mason is still probably the most valuable running back in terms of fantasy but should be a matchup play.

Rams | Benny Cunningham probable for Week 8

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 13:22:34 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham (knee) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 24, and is probable for Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($3,000) is intriguing at FantasyScore because of his price, but the mystery surrounding the Rams backfield makes him a gamble. Cunningham has more appeal in point-per-reception leagues, though, making him a decent flex option against the Chiefs.

St. Louis Rams CB Janoris Jenkins (knee) and C Tim Barnes (shoulder) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 23. FS T.J. McDonald (concussion), LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar (toe), CB Trumaine Johnson (knee), CB Brandon McGee (foot), RB Benny Cunningham (knee) were limited participants, and DE William Hayes (illness), OG Rodger Saffold (knee) and DE Ethan Westbrooks (hand) were full participants.

Rams | Tre Mason could be top RB option

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 12:08:10 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason could be the top candidate for a majority of carries since he is averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Mason rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries in Week 7 and received most of the carries because he had the hot hand, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. RB Zac Stacy was announced the starter for Week 7 but only played one snap. RB Benny Cunningham only rushed for three yards during the game. Stacy is averaging 3.93 yards per carry this season, while Cunningham is averaging 3.78 yards per carry.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Mason probably will receive most of the work at running back for the time being. Mason costs $4,900 on FantasyScore and could be a nice flex option for owners.

Rams | Zac Stacy nearly non-existent

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 14:01:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not have any touches in the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams used a combination of RBs Tre Mason, who had 85 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Benny Cunningham, who led the team with 46 receiving yards and a score.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy actually played just one total snap into the third quarter, and clearly has fallen out of favor in St. Louis. He is worth keeping on a roster in yearly leagues, but FantasyScore won't want to go near him going forward.

Rams | Benny Cunningham starts

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 10:11:00 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham received the start in the team's Week 7 game.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham is part of a committee at running back and will be sharing carries for the time being. Cunningham could receive more carries if he produces on the field, which would make him a flex option for owners.

Rams | Tre Mason makes most of chance

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 21:34:43 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason was active last week for the first time all season, and he played nine snaps with six touches. He finished with five carries for 40 yards and a reception for 12 yards. He was active for the first time because RB Chase Reynolds (hip) was inactive due to injury. Mason is expected to join RBs Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham in a running-back-by-committee approach. "Well, early in the game we try to get guys multiple touches," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Friday, Oct. 17. "That's part of the deal. Then we try to go with the hot hand late in the game. Most places that I've been that have really good running games, they had the people to spread the ball around."

Fantasy Tip: Mason isn't quite ready for FantasyScore usage just yet, even at a tempting $3,000 salary (or 6.0 percent of the cap). He won't see nearly enough touches. However, monitor the situation, and if he sees an increase over his six touches in Week 6, he might be worth using down the road. Stacy $5,400 (or 10.8 percent of the cap) is probably the best fantasy bet, but he is a bit overpriced considering how crowded the backfield is.

Rams | St. Louis could stick with RB rotation

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 16:24:59 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason may continue to head a three-man rotation in the backfield, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy is still the running back to own in St. Louis, but his value is quickly dwindling. Keep an eye on how much playing time he sees in the coming weeks.

Rams | Rams to ride hot hand at RB?

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 11:08:13 -0700

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said he expects the team to ride the "hot hand" any given week at running back, according to a source. As a result, RB Benny Cunningham could cut into RB Zac Stacy's workload immediately in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. Stacy had 250 carries in just 12 starts last year and was among the league leaders in carries per game. Cunningham had just 47 carries last year, but he impressed the team in training camp and the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: We warned folks not to overvalue Stacy's work last year too much in drafts leading up to the 2014 season. This week against the Vikes, Stacy ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) isn't a wise FantasyScore investment, and it may be tough to find the right time to start him moving forward if Cunningham cuts into his workload significantly. Look to pick up Cunningham at a low investment in standard leagues if you're already searching for running back depth.

Rams | Benny Cunningham may get snaps

Thu, 28 Aug 2014 09:43:14 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham has been the team's best running back during the preseason and could push RB Zac Stacy for playing time this season.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy likely will enter the season as the starter, but Cunningham could get some carries during games. Owners should only consider Cunningham has a handcuff to Stacy in deeper leagues. Tre Mason probably has the most value among the team's backup running backs.

Rams | Zac Stacy does not start

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 09:30:08 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy did not start in the third preseason game, because the team wanted to see what RB Benny Cunningham would do with the first-team offense, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Fisher said the team knows what Stacy can do with the starting offense.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy likely will be the starting running back this season and get a majority of the carries. Stacy probably will be a weekly flex option in most leagues.

Rams | RB competition being pushed by OC

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 11:16:26 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy isn't officially the team's starting running back. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer reiterated that RBs Benny Cunningham, Tre Mason and Isaiah Pead will all compete with Stacy for starter status. Schottenheimer added that each running back has a different skill set that will be used "throughout the course of the year."

Fantasy Tip: It's still too early to make too much out of the St. Louis running back situation, but it's still not good news for Stacy. While Stacy may still get most of the playing time, he probably won't be called on as much as he was last season. Still, he's a solid RB2 option in standard leagues. If we were to choose a St. Louis running back to bet on other than Stacy, it would probably be Mason.

Rams | Four could compete for No. 4 RB job

Mon, 26 May 2014 23:24:56 -0700

The St. Louis Rams will likely use RBs Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham and Tre Mason in the first three slots on the depth chart. In the fourth spot it could be a competition between RBs Isaiah Pead, Chase Reynolds, Kadeem Jones and Trey Watts.

Rams | Zac Stacy probable

Fri, 29 Nov 2013 13:52:31 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (concussion) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 29, and is listed as probable for Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers. He passed the final hurdle for his concussion tests Friday and has been cleared to play this Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: The matchup against the Niners is a tough one, but if Stacy is playing, he's at least an RB2 or flex play, assuming he isn't limited by a great deal. Benny Cunningham is a weak flex play now that Stacy is expected to suit up.

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 10:33:30 -0800

Rams | Benny Cunningham able to play

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 20:32:39 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham (ankle) returned from injury in Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans, playing nine snaps on offense and four more on special teams.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham is working as the backup to Zac Stacy, and that role could be in jeopardy after a costly fumble. For fantasy purposes, Cunningham is not someone you'll want to rely upon anytime soon.

Fri, 01 Nov 2013 12:07:56 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to wait until the inactive list to see if he will be on the field for the game. Stacy should be considered a low-end starting running back or flex option if he is able to play. With Daryl Richardson and Benny Cunningham also being questionable, Isaiah Pead could have a bigger role in the offense but should not be in starting lineups this week.
