Seahawks | Luke Willson could see increased role

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 06:19:31 -0700

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson will likely see an increased role in the offense during Week 1's game against the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Sept. 11, since TE Jimmy Graham (knee) is expected to play a limited number of snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Willson had just 17 receptions for 213 yards and one touchdown in 14 games (seven starts) last season and did not have more than two catches in any given contest, so he should not be viewed as a great fantasy option Sunday.

Seahawks | Probable tag for Luke Willson

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 15:15:53 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) practiced in full the entire week and is probable to face the Carolina Panthers in the divisional round Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Willson ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) missed the wild-card round and had just 17 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown all year, but he was mainly the backup tight end to Jimmy Graham. The best you can hope for is a red zone touchdown for Willson as a deep FantasyScore sleeper.

Seahawks | Marshawn Lynch, Luke Willson full go

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 16:24:44 -0800

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch (abdomen) and TE Luke Willson (concussion) were full participants in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Lynch ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) participated fully in practice last week, too, and still didn't play. If he does play, he could be limited and may split carries with Christine Michael, not to mention that the Carolina Panthers were above average defensively against running backs this season. As for Willson ($3,100, 6.2%), he's a big risk as he didn't catch more than two passes all season.

Seahawks | Luke Willson a full participant

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 16:34:35 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Willson ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has been cleared from the concussion protocol after missing the wild-card round, and he should play this weekend against the Carolina Panthers. Carolina's defense is tough all-around, so Willson is surely a dice role for your daily lineups.

Seahawks | Cooper Helfet to start at tight end

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 08:49:02 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Cooper Helfet will start in place of TE Luke Willson (concussion) in the NFC wild-card game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Jan. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Helfet ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) had 13 receptions for 130 yards during 14 regular-season games, including eight catches for 85 yards in his last two contests. He's worth considering as a FantasyScore value play this afternoon.

Seahawks | Luke Willson out of wild-card game

Fri, 08 Jan 2016 15:17:43 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) has been ruled out of the wild-card game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Jan. 10.

Fantasy Tip: With Willson ruled out, Cooper Helfet ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) will be Seattle's primary tight end. With Russell Wilson excelling in the passing game in the second half of the season, Helfet could be worth your time as a really deep sleeper this weekend. Keep in mind it's a long shot, though, and the weather isn't in his favor.

Seahawks | No practice for Luke Willson

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 16:50:26 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) did not practice Thursday, Jan. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Willson's ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) status will need to be monitored heading into the weekend, but it doesn't look good after missing practice today and being limited yesterday. You can definitely do better at tight end on FantasyScore for the first round of the playoffs.

Seahawks | Luke Willson limited in practice

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 16:11:55 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) was limited in practice Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Willson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) was inactive in Week 17 and is no lock to play in the wild-card matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. He doesn't have more than two catches in any game this year, either, and is much too risky to use on FantasyScore.

Seahawks | Luke Willson to miss game

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 17:25:51 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Cooper Helfet ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) likely will be the starting tight end for the Seahawks this week but should not be a starting option in most leagues.

Seahawks | Luke Willson misses practice

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 17:08:29 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation this week to see if Willson ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) will be able to play in Week 17. He has recorded only 213 receiving yards this season and should not be a starting option even if he is cleared.

Seahawks | Luke Willson suffers concussion

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 21:52:02 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) suffered a concussion in the Week 16 game against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: If Willson is unavailable for the regular season finale, look for Cooper Helfet to step up and see more responsibilities in the offense.

Seahawks | Luke Willson probable for Week 15

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 15:49:20 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (ribs) is probable for the Week 15 game against the Cleveland Browns, and he was a full participant at practice Friday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Willson ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has not caught more than two passes or received more than four targets in any game this season, and with just one touchdown, it is safe to look elsewhere at FantasyScore. At best, he is a desperation source of cap relief in daily contests.

Seahawks | Luke Willson full go

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 16:47:12 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (ribs) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson's ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) status was upgraded from yesterday, so he should start at tight end again this week. He hasn't done much since taking over the starting role from Jimmy Graham, though, so it's safe to look elsewhere at the position on FantasyScore for Week 15.

Seahawks | Luke Willson limited

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 17:02:22 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Willson ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) hasn't really done much since taking over for Jimmy Graham. He shouldn't be completely disregarded, as he's still a cheap, starting tight end, but don't set high expectations if you're investing in Willson.

Seahawks | Luke Willson undergoes MRI

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 15:56:10 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (ribs) underwent an MRI on his injured ribs Monday, Dec. 14, but the team does not know the results at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on his situation to see if his injury will keep him out of the lineup. Willson has not caught more than two passes in any game this season and is not a great option even if he plays.

Seahawks | Luke Willson might see more targets

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 17:46:12 -0800

Seattle Seahawks WR Luke Willson had just one reception for 12 yards in the Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Willson didn't do much in this one, but the team lost Jimmy Graham to what appeared to be a serious leg injury. Willson might see more targets going forward, and he could be a dirt-cheap FantasyScore option in the process.

Seahawks | More two-tight end sets for Seattle

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 10:09:34 -0700

The Seattle Seahawks appear likely to use more two-tight end formats with TEs Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson on the team this season in offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell's system. TEs Anthony McCoy, Cooper Helfet and Rashaun Allen are also competing for spots. Graham will need to do more blocking for RB Marshawn Lynch than he's done in the past with the New Orleans Saints if the Seahawks go to more two-tight end formations. Injuries and New Orleans system rarely relied on Graham for blocking in the running game. "I know 3rd-and-10, 3rd-and-12, that's when I'm going to have to make my money," Graham said, "and that's when I'm going to have to be special for this team."

Fantasy Tip: It seems likely that Graham's production for fantasy owners will take a dip this year with Seattle. However, he can still be a TE1 for his owners if he's used often in third-and-long situations and in the red zone.

Seahawks | Luke Willson, Paul Richardson emerge

Mon, 22 Dec 2014 10:20:11 -0800

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson and WR Paul Richardson emerged in the team's Week 16 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and Richardson may be forced to start in Week 17 with WR Jermaine Kearse (hamstring) injured. Willson posted 139 yards receiving and two touchdowns against the Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Both Willson and Richardson will likely be at basement level FantasyScore prices again in Week 17, making them deep sleepers yet again. The matchup against the St. Louis Rams is appealing, too, but both players remain a shot in the dark in daily games.

Seahawks | Luke Willson could help passing game

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 10:58:08 -0700

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson could have a role in the passing game against the Washington Redskins in Week 5 since he will be the starting tight end, and the Redskins allowed New York Giants TE Larry Donnell to catch seven passes for 54 yards and three touchdowns in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Willson has only caught one pass this season but could have a bigger role in the passing game. Owners in deeper leagues that are looking for a tight end to play this week could consider using Willson since he has a favorable matchup. Willson costs $3,000 on FantasyScore, but owners should probably look for a better option at the position. Willson is not as good of a blocker as Zach Miller, so Willson could be limited to mostly passing plays.
