Phillies | Adam Morgan sent down

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 05:51:54 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan was optioned to Class AAA Lehigh Valley Thursday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Zach Eflin looks like he'll remain in the rotation for now. He's 1-2 with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He's NL-only depth for now. Morgan has zero fantasy luster with a 6.65 ERA.

Phillies | Adam Morgan available in relief Sunday

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:47:13 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan will be available out of the bullpen for the game against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, June 26. He was originally scheduled to pitch versus the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, June 27, but it now appears as though SP Vincent Velasquez (biceps) will be activated from the disabled list to make the start.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a sign that Morgan's days with the parent club are numbered. The 26-year-old left-hander is 1-6 with a 6.55 ERA through 11 starts this year and is not a recommended fantasy option in any format.

Phillies | Adam Morgan tagged with loss

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 18:56:27 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan (1-4) allowed six runs on nine hits over six innings in a loss to the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 1, with no walks and six strikeouts. It was his fourth consecutive loss.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan now sports an unsightly 7.07 ERA through seven starts and has allowed six runs or more in three of his last four outings, so he shouldn't be trusted in any fantasy format. If he remains in the rotation, his next start would come against the Chicago Cubs Monday, June 6.

Phillies | Adam Morgan suffers loss Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 18:01:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan (1-3) allowed six runs on eight hits over four innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs Friday, May 27, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan allowed three homers in Friday's loss and has dropped three consecutive decisions, with six or more runs allowed in two of his last three outings. He should be viewed as a very risky fantasy option in his next scheduled start at home against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 1.

Phillies | Adam Morgan has career night

Tue, 10 May 2016 20:28:58 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan matched the longest start of his career Tuesday, May 10, against the Atlanta Braves, giving up one run, four hits and a walk over seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan threw 60 of his 90 pitches for strikes in the quality start. Despite the stellar outing, he is still only worth using in the deepest of NL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play as a salary saver when the matchup is favorable.

Phillies | Adam Morgan starting vs. Cleveland

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 13:13:52 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan was officially recalled to start against the Cleveland Indians Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan struck out just 49 batters through 84 1/3 innings over 15 starts last year with a 4.48 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has limited fantasy appeal and is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats Friday. There could be value in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues if he sticks in the rotation, but for now, take a wait-and-see approach with Morgan.

Phillies | Bad news for Charlie Morton

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 17:20:41 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Charlie Morton (hamstring) has a strained left hamstring, and although the Phillies didn't reveal the results of his examination Monday, April 25, manager Pete Mackanin said the news wasn't good, and Morton will be out longer than expected. SP Adam Morgan will be called up to start against the Cleveland Indians Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Morton has a lengthy injury history, and with him unlikely to return soon, he can probably be dropped from all rosters in mixed leagues. Morgan doesn't throw hard and shouldn't move the needle much at all outside of the deepest NL-only leagues as a matchup play if he sticks in the rotation.

Phillies | Adam Morgan to start Friday for Phils

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 11:52:23 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan will come up from the minor leagues with Class AAA Lehigh Valley to make the start Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan has the first crack at replacing Charlie Morton in the rotation. Morgan went 5-7 with a 4.48 ERA and just 5.2 strikeouts per nine innings in 15 starts for the Phils last year. He doesn't have much velocity on his pitches and gives up plenty of fly balls. There's not much to like here.

Phillies | Charlie Morton to the DL

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 16:37:51 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Charlie Morton (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, April 24, with a strained left hamstring, and he will have an MRI Monday, April 25, to determine how long he will be out. General manager Matt Klentak said a decision will be made later in the week on who will replace Morton in the rotation, but he mentioned SP Adam Morgan as a candidate.

Fantasy Tip: Morgan has been pitching well in the minors, and he could be worth a speculative grab in NL-only formats.

Phillies | Hot battle for Phils' fifth spot

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 06:27:08 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan and SP Vincent Velasquez are in a hot battle for the fifth starter spot, and the team is struggling to separate them. They could justify using a six-man rotation, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

Fantasy Tip: Velasquez has more upside as he has struck out 354 batters in 296 2/3 minor league innings in his career. He'll be an unheralded NL-only option with some deep mixed potential. Morgan is an NL-only grab.
