Indians | Jose Ramirez starting at second

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 15:53:24 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jose Ramirez is starting at second base and batting from the leadoff position Monday, Aug. 3, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and RHP Garrett Richards.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) hit just .176 over 173 plate appearances with the Indians earlier this season, but he hit .288 following his demotion to Class AAA. Ramirez's on-base percentage was .351 in the minors this season, but FantasyScore owners should give him some time to readjust to the major leagues.

Indians | Jason Kipnis placed on disabled list

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 15:32:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder Monday, Aug. 3. In a corresponding move, SS Jose Ramirez was recalled from Class AAA Columbus.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to stash Kipnis ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats and check back for updates on his recovery and for a return timeline. Mike Aviles ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) and Ramirez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) project to see the majority of starts at second base while Kipnis is out. Neither has anything more than fleeting seasonal value in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, though.

Indians | Mike Aviles reinstated

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 10:33:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Mike Aviles was reinstated from the family medical emergency list Thursday, July 16, and 2B Jose Ramirez was optioned to Class AAA Columbus in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will likely continue to serve as a utility player for the Tribe that can play shortstop, third base and left field when needed. He's mainly a fantasy option in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats as roster depth, and he's typically a low-end FantasyScore option when he starts.

Indians | Brandon Moss sitting vs. Oakland

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 07:17:04 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Brandon Moss is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 12. SS Jose Ramirez draws into the lineup and is playing second base and batting ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Sunday. 2B Jason Kipnis is serving as the designated hitter and leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Moss ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Sunday. He enters the All-Star break with solid power totals (14 home runs and 46 RBI) but lackluster ratios (.221/.297/.429 slash line). Ramirez is nothing more than a dice roll Sunday, and FantasyScore players should likely look elsewhere.

Indians | Jose Ramirez recalled

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 15:15:47 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jose Ramirez was recalled from Class AAA Columbus on Saturday, July 11. In a corresponding move, SS Mike Aviles was placed on the MLB family medical emergency leave list.

Fantasy Tip: With Francisco Lindor ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) doing well, Ramirez is likely up for depth and carries little fantasy value.

Indians | Jose Ramirez sent to minors

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 00:37:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Jose Ramirez was optioned to Class AAA Columbus on Sunday, June 7. The club recalled SS Zach Walters to the parent club in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should have seen the writing on the wall as Mike Aviles ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) has revived his career with the Indians. Ramirez had a .180 average at the time of his demotion. He can be removed from all daily consideration. You may even want to drop him from yearly leagues, because top prospect Francisco Lindor will likely be up later in the season and relegate Ramirez to the scrap heap.

Indians | Mike Aviles back in

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 08:20:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Mike Aviles is back in the starting lineup Sunday, June 7, against the Baltimore Orioles and RHP Bud Norris. Aviles will hit ninth in the order while SS Jose Ramirez comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is hitting .316 in 40 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers. While he could be cheated out of an at-bat, Aviles holds some upside as a GPP option on FantasyScore.

Indians | Jose Ramirez returns Saturday

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 11:58:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Jose Ramirez is back in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, June 6, batting ninth. INF Mike Aviles, who had started the last three games at shortstop, is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is only batting .184 on the season and has struggled at the plate against both righties (.186) and lefties (.180). He can be ignored in FantasyScore unless he reverts back to the form he displayed last year.

Indians | Jose Ramirez out of lineup again

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 17:34:55 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Jose Ramirez found himself out of the starting lineup for the third consecutive game Friday, June 5, against the Kansas City Royals. INF Mike Aviles started at shortstop for the third time in as many contests but manager Terry Francona would not say whether he has taken over the position on a full-time basis.

Fantasy Tip: Through 44 games, Ramirez ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is only batting .184 with a .252 OBP, one home run and eight RBIs. He is not a viable option in FantasyScore even on days when he is penciled into the lineup. Aviles ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is performing better than Ramirez in virtually every offensive category and is a valuable asset to have in seasonal leagues due to his ability to play multiple positions. Francona said prospect Francisco Lindor, who is hitting .260 at Class AAA Columbus, will not be promoted to the majors anytime soon.

Indians | Mike Aviles draws into lineup at SS

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 13:57:57 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Mike Aviles is starting at shortstop and hitting ninth in the batting order against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Friday, June 5. SS Jose Ramirez is starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is a better shortstop option than Ramirez on FantasyScore, but he doesn't typically fill out a stat sheet, and he's less intriguing at the bottom of the lineup. He's a deep sleeper with a decent matchup tonight if you're feeling lucky tonight.
