Tigers | Shane Greene's role is up in the air

Fri, 27 May 2016 16:18:17 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) will "ideally" have another rehab start with Class AAA Toledo, but the organization is also considering whether Greene is better suited to start or pitch out of the bullpen, bench coach Gene Lamont said Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Greene has a 6.80 ERA and 5.6 K/9 through 98 innings over the past two seasons. At this point, he is a desperation own and start in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats.

Tigers | Shane Greene rehab update

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:42:11 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) will make his next rehab start for Class AAA Toledo Wednesday, May 25, and he will be limited to throwing 60 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Greene tossed three scoreless innings for Class A West Michigan Friday, May 20, but it is not guaranteed that he will re-enter the parent club's starting rotation once his rehab stint is over. At best, he should be viewed as a back-of-the-rotation option in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Tigers | Shane Greene impressive in rehab start

Fri, 20 May 2016 17:50:45 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) allowed two hits over three scoreless innings in a rehab start with Class A West Michigan Friday, May 20, against Fort Wayne. He walked one and struck out five while throwing 42 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Greene had struggled mightily before landing on the disabled list, going 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA in four appearances (three starts). If the 27-year-old right-hander is reinserted into the rotation after he's activated, Michael Fulmer could be the odd man out. Greene is not worth stashing outside of AL-only and deep mixed leagues due to his high earned-run average and low strikeout totals.

Tigers | Shane Greene nearing return

Wed, 18 May 2016 09:11:25 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) is nearing a return after not pitching since April 24 because of a blister on his middle finger. He'll make a rehab start with Class A West Michigan Friday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: There's no guarantee that Greene will have a rotation spot to come back to, but if he's handed one, Michael Fulmer could be in danger of being sent back to the minors. Greene was sporting a 6.28 ERA in four starts before being injured, so he's a mild candidate to add in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues if he returns to the rotation when he's ready.

Tigers | Shane Greene suffers setback

Fri, 06 May 2016 14:17:58 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) reopened the blister on his right middle finger Thursday, May 5, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Greene is currently on the disabled list because of the blister, so opening it back up will hold him out of action even longer. Greene is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues because of his underwhelming 6.80 ERA and 5.6 K/9 since the beginning of 2015. Michael Fulmer has been starting in place of Greene, and Fulmer has allowed seven runs through 10 innings over his two starts.

Tigers | Shane Greene headed to DL

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 09:44:26 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) will miss at least two starts, so he will be placed on the disabled list with a blister on his middle finger Thursday, April 28, retroactive to Monday, April 25, according to manager Brad Ausmus. SP Michael Fulmer, the team's top pitching prospect, will come up to start Friday, April 29, against the Minnesota Twins. There is no guarantee that Fulmer will make both of the starts filling in for Greene, though.

Fantasy Tip: Fulmer deserves attention in AL-only and keeper leagues, but because his stay could be short in the majors this time around, keep your bids conservative if you're speculating or planning to use him in a spot start against the Twins in deep mixed affairs. You can likely drop Greene in deep mixed leagues in favor of healthier options.

Tigers | Shane Greene unlikely to make next start

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:28:20 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) is unlikely to make his next scheduled start, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown who will start in Greene's place for his next start, but Buck Farmer could be the most likely option. He was recalled this week to help out the bullpen, but he has spot-starting experience. Farmer shouldn't move the needle much in any fantasy format.

Tigers | Shane Greene's next start up in air

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:50:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) is undecided for his next scheduled start, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Greene is still a candidate to land on the DL, so approach his next start with caution in deeper and daily leagues if he winds up pitching. It's unknown who would take Greene's spot in the rotation if he misses a start or two. Stay tuned.

Tigers | Shane Greene won't throw for a while

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 22:26:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (blister) will not throw for at least a few days after exiting with a blister issue. The team is uncertain if he'll need a stint on the 15-day disabled list or not.

Fantasy Tip: Greene is a risky fantasy play heading into the new scoring period in weekly leagues, so reserve him in all AL-only leagues. DFS players won't want to bother with him, either, until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Tigers | Shane Greene exits with blister issue

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:37:23 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (finger) left his start on Sunday, April 24, after suffering a blister on his right middle finger, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Greene allowed a run over three-plus frames before departing, and it's obviously too early to determine whether he will be able to make his next scheduled start or not. As things stand right now, Matt Boyd appears to be the most likely candidate to make a sneaky (and perhaps strong under-the-radar) spot start versus the Minnesota Twins on Friday if Greene is forced to miss time.
