Yankees | Yanks trying to upgrade pitching

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 07:24:24 -0700

New York Yankees SPs Adam Warren, Luis Severino and Bryan Mitchell are unlikely to be used to fill in in the starting rotation with SP Michael Pineda (forearm) sidelined. The Yankees continue to monitor the starting pitcher market as the trade deadline approaches.

Fantasy Tip: Severino, the club's top minor league pitching prospect, easily has the most upside of this trio and should already be stashed in dynasty and keeper leagues. If he does come up and enter the rotation for the Yanks, he'll surely be popular on the waiver wire in the rest of traditional leagues.

Yankees | CC Sabathia will start vs. Texas

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:16:37 -0700

Correcting a previous report, New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia is expected to start against the Texas Rangers Thursday, July 30. SP Bryan Mitchell was believed to be making the start, but Sabathia will be pushed ahead a day with Mitchell offering long-relief protection, if needed.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has allowed four earned runs or more in four of his last seven starts with a 5.63 ERA and 30 strikeouts through 40 innings during the stretch. He should be viewed as a high-risk, high-reward No. 2 starting pitcher flier by FantasyScore players Thursday. He is a desperation start in year-long formats, too.

Yankees | Bryan Mitchell starting against Texas

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 10:53:33 -0700

New York Yankees SP Bryan Mitchell is being called up to make a spot start against the Texas Rangers Thursday, July 30, in place of SP Michael Pineda (forearm).

Fantasy Tip: Mitchell won't be available to use on FantasyScore. It's a good opportunity to stack Rangers hitters in your daily lineups tonight.

Yankees | Stephen Drew to paternity list

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 11:55:44 -0700

New York Yankees SS Stephen Drew was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, June 23. INF Ramon Flores was optioned to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and RP Bryan Mitchell and 2B Jose Pirela were recalled from the minors in corresponding moves.

Fantasy Tip: Pirela and Brendan Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) are likely to fill in at the keystone for the next several days with Drew gone. Both players are deep sleeper picks for the desperate in need of salary cap relief on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Two candidates to start Saturday

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 22:34:26 -0700

New York Yankees SPs Nathan Eovaldi and Bryan Mitchell are two candidates to fill the vacant spot in the rotation Saturday, June 20, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi ($4,800; or 9.6% of cap) was chased in the first inning last time out, so FantasyScore players canít really trust him at this point.

Yankees | NY may use six-man rotation

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 13:56:30 -0800

New York Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild indicated that the team may go with a six-man rotation to open the season to reduce early-season strain on arms. The Yankees have a stretch of 30 games in 31 days starting April 17. The team is already dealing with several injury questions in their starting five. Ps Bryan Mitchell, Esmil Rogers, Adam Warren and Chase Whitley are building up stamina this spring, and each of them could be used as either starters or relievers.

Fantasy Tip: None of the Yankees' options for the sixth rotation spot to begin the season are really worth consideration in standard fantasy baseball leagues, mainly because this scenario is likely to be short-lived. However, whoever is slated to be the sixth rotation arm to start the year may be worth a small investment as a late-round flier in AL-only leagues.

Yankees | Bryan Mitchell update

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:10:30 -0700

New York Yankees SP Bryan Mitchell was recalled for long-relief insurance if SP Esmil Rogers cannot pitch deep into the game Friday, Aug. 8, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Rogers hasn't started a game all season, so it makes sense. Mitchell's stay in the big leagues may be short.
