Braves | Rotation in flux

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 14:02:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Ervin Santana will pitch Friday, July 18, the team's first game after the All-Star break, against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Gonzalez has not confirmed the rotation after Santana, but said it depends on if SP Julio Teheran will get one or two days of extra rest. Teheran will pitch Saturday, July 19, or Sunday, July 20. Expect left-handed SPs Mike Minor and Alex Wood to be split up in the rotation and not pitch consecutively. Wood and Minor will either pitch the second and fourth or the third and fifth games out of the break. SP Aaron Harang will pitch the fourth or fifth game coming out of the break.

Fantasy Tip: Santana gets an excellent chance to start strong in the second half against the Phillies' weak offense. Otherwise, check back for further details, but the Miami Marlins head to Atlanta Monday, July 21, which is another plus-matchup.

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 09:44:06 -0700

The Atlanta Braves recalled SP Alex Wood from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned RP Ryan Butcher to Gwinnett Tuesday, June 24.

Braves | Alex Wood helped by farm time

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 08:11:37 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood said he has felt more comfortable in the starting rotation since being sent to Triple-A Gwinnett to stretch out, and he's gained a better feel for his changeup. He spent time refining his breaking offerings, so he got away from having optimal command on it. He's slated to throw between 90 to 95 pitches in his return Wednesday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Pick up the southpaw if he's still available. The Braves know how to extract success from SPs, and Wood has been excellent when given a rotation gig.

Braves | Alex Wood to start Wednesday

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 13:52:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood will make the start Wednesday, June 25, in place of SP Gavin Floyd (elbow).

Fantasy Tip: Wood should see an extended stay in the rotation, and he could remain for the rest of the season, depending on how long Floyd will need to recover. Look to add Wood immediately.

Braves | Gavin Floyd to DL

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 11:07:41 -0700

The Atlanta Braves placed SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right elbow Friday, June 20, and recalled P Ryan Buchter from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Although the Braves haven't released a timetable for Floyd's return, they expect him to be back this season. However, it'll likely be an extended absence. This injury bodes well for the return of Alex Wood to the rotation. Look to jump ahead of the curve and add Wood in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Braves | Alex Wood to work as starter

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 12:14:11 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood will be a starting pitcher while with Triple-A Gwinnett, because the team believes he can be an integral part of the starting rotation in the later months of the season.

Braves | Activate Jordan Walden, option Alex Wood

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 14:10:13 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Jordan Walden (hamstring) has been activated from the disabled list Tuesday, June 10. SP Alex Wood has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett to open a roster spot for Walden.

Fantasy Tip: Wood is a potential stash option in the deepest of mixed and NL-only leagues. He could return to the Braves rotation at some point this season as an injury replacement, or on his own merit. The demotion to Gwinnett is an opportunity to stretch Wood out and have him start, as opposed to pitching out of the bullpen.

Braves | Alex Wood to stay in bullpen

Wed, 14 May 2014 12:34:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Atlanta Braves have decided to keep SP Alex Wood in the bullpen and and stick with a five-man rotation. The reasoning was that some Braves starters were not comfortable with the extra day of rest, and Wood's arm is needed in the bullpen with RP Jordan Walden on the disabled list.

Braves | Update on Alex Wood

Fri, 09 May 2014 13:45:25 -0700

Updating previous reports, Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood will move back into the starting rotation a week from Saturday, May 10. He'll be available out of the bullpen through Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously there is no reason to drop Wood now that he'll only miss one turn through the rotation.
