Cubs | Kyle Schwarber out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 14:56:45 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Kyle Schwarber is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 30, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Matt Szczur is hitting sixth against Cubs SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is mainly out due to the left vs. left matchup, but a .160 batting average in the past week is another solid reason to sit Schwarber. Szczur is hitting .226 in the past week and really has little fantasy value.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan not starting Sunday

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 14:46:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan is not starting the Sunday, Aug. 30, game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Chris Denorfia is in right field and hitting second against Cubs SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is hitting .158 in the past seven days, so with the left vs. left matchup it is an appropriate time to sit him. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has four hits in five at-bats against Wood and may be worth the small FantasyScore price.

Dodgers | Alex Wood suffers loss

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 18:56:07 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (8-8) allowed three runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, Aug. 19, with three walks and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers fell to 1-3 in games started by Wood ($6,800, 13.6% of cap), although he has limited the opposition to four or fewer runs in each of those outings. He will make his next start against the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, Aug. 27.

Dodgers | Alex Wood to start Wednesday

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 20:13:58 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood will start Wednesday, Aug. 19, against the Oakland Athletics with the team skipping SP Mat Latos in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) is a solid FantasyScore option, especially on the road, going 5-4 with a 3.16 ERA in 15 road appearances with a 3-3 record and 4.89 ERA in eight home outings.

Dodgers | Alex Wood loses in debut with Dodgers

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 20:30:59 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood allowed four runs on eight hits and and two walks while striking out eight through 6 2/3 innings during the Dodgers' 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) had allowed a single run through six innings, but the Phillies finally got to him in the seventh, and he was pulled with the bases loaded. Phillies 3B Maikel Franco hit a grand slam to up his earned run total to four. FantasyScore players should continue to find sneaky value with Wood going forward, and he should be owned in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Cubs | Dodgers moving Alex Wood to the Cubs?

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:11:01 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood is being included in trade negotiations with the Chicago Cubs, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This would be a shocking move, as Wood just landed with Los Angeles Thursday, July 30. Continue to check back for updates, but regardless of whether Wood stays with the Dodgers or is dealt to the Cubs, it should be viewed as an upgrade on starting for the Braves.

Marlins | Miami adds prospects in blockbuster

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:32:28 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo as part of the a three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: This was strictly a salary dump for the Marlins. With Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) gone, Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to receive the majority of at-bats at first base. It is unknown who will join the starting rotation, and it is unlikely the Marlins are finished their roster makeover. Stay tuned for updates.

Braves | Atlanta adds Hector Olivera

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:17:03 -0700

The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.

Dodgers | Alex Wood, Mat Latos acquired by LAD

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:01:02 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30. The Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) receive a huge boost starting for a strong team, which boasts an excellent offense and bullpen. They can both be started with confidence in the majority of matchups. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has struggled significantly this season, and he will have a tough time receiving enough at-bats to tip the fantasy scales. Johnson goes from closing duties in Atlanta to being a set-up arm for the Dodgers, and he is nothing more than a desperation saves stash, as he is unlikely even the next man up.

Dodgers | Jose Peraza in proposed deal

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:45:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jose Peraza is included in the proposed deal with SP Alex Wood, RP Jim Johnson and RP Luis Avilan headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Miami Marlins would send SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse to the Dodgers as well. The Marlins would receive P Jeff Brigham, P Victor Araujo and P Kevin Guzman. The Braves would receive RP Paco Rodriguez and 2B Hector Olivera.

Fantasy Tip: The deal is still pending because of physicals. Peraza probably doesn't have a role with the Dodgers this season, but he's a dynasty league commodity. Jim Johnson would lose much of his fantasy value as a setup man in LA. Arodys Vizcaino is expected to be the front runner to close in Atlanta if the deal goes through.
