Cubs | Dodgers moving Alex Wood to the Cubs?

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:11:01 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood is being included in trade negotiations with the Chicago Cubs, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This would be a shocking move, as Wood just landed with Los Angeles Thursday, July 30. Continue to check back for updates, but regardless of whether Wood stays with the Dodgers or is dealt to the Cubs, it should be viewed as an upgrade on starting for the Braves.

Marlins | Miami adds prospects in blockbuster

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:32:28 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo as part of the a three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: This was strictly a salary dump for the Marlins. With Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) gone, Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to receive the majority of at-bats at first base. It is unknown who will join the starting rotation, and it is unlikely the Marlins are finished their roster makeover. Stay tuned for updates.

Braves | Atlanta adds Hector Olivera

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:17:03 -0700

The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.

Dodgers | Alex Wood, Mat Latos acquired by LAD

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:01:02 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30. The Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) receive a huge boost starting for a strong team, which boasts an excellent offense and bullpen. They can both be started with confidence in the majority of matchups. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has struggled significantly this season, and he will have a tough time receiving enough at-bats to tip the fantasy scales. Johnson goes from closing duties in Atlanta to being a set-up arm for the Dodgers, and he is nothing more than a desperation saves stash, as he is unlikely even the next man up.

Dodgers | Jose Peraza in proposed deal

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:45:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jose Peraza is included in the proposed deal with SP Alex Wood, RP Jim Johnson and RP Luis Avilan headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Miami Marlins would send SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse to the Dodgers as well. The Marlins would receive P Jeff Brigham, P Victor Araujo and P Kevin Guzman. The Braves would receive RP Paco Rodriguez and 2B Hector Olivera.

Fantasy Tip: The deal is still pending because of physicals. Peraza probably doesn't have a role with the Dodgers this season, but he's a dynasty league commodity. Jim Johnson would lose much of his fantasy value as a setup man in LA. Arodys Vizcaino is expected to be the front runner to close in Atlanta if the deal goes through.

Dodgers | Working on adding Alex Wood

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:23:21 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers are working on a three-way deal with the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins which would net the Dodgers SP Alex Wood, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is a very solid pitcher, but he could be even more valuable to FantasyScore players pitching for a contender. The difference between Dodger Stadium and Turner Field, in terms of MLB Park Factors, is rather negligible.

Braves | Alex Wood better on the road

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 17:05:39 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood is 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA in 10 road starts this year, compared to 1-3 with a 5.18 ERA in six home starts.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is on the road tonight, but it's at hitter-friendly Coors Field, making him a very risky daily play. The Rockies have the third highest OPS (.818) at their home field this season.

Braves | Alex Wood actually better on road

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 18:52:34 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood is scheduled to work Thursday, July 9, at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies. Wood owns a 5.18 ERA at home, and a 5-2 record with a 2.43 ERA in 10 road outings.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the solid numbers on the road, Wood ($5,800; or 11.6% of cap) is not a recommended FantasyScore play in Coors Field where things can go south in a hurry.

Braves | Alex Wood has bad history against Mets

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 15:35:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood has a 4.09 ERA and is 0-2 in six career starts against the New York Mets. Wood will face the Mets Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets aren't as bad against lefties as they are against right-handers this year, but Wood ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) could still put up fine numbers against this offense that has scored only 23 runs in the last week. He's had plenty of rest, too, since he was ejected after five innings in his last start.

Braves | Alex Wood's home struggles continue

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 14:06:50 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood lost his latest start Sunday, June 7, as the Braves fell 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wood allowed seven hits, three runs, one walk and struck out five in five innings. Wood fell to 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA in games played at Turner Field.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has had a decent season, but for some reason his luck has run out at home. Although he has a 4-3 record, stay away from him in games played at Turner.
