Cubs | Kris Bryant has forgettable debut

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 16:13:04 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his major league debut against the San Diego Padres Friday, April 17. He was hitting cleanup and starting at third base. Bryant said he had only three hours of sleep before his debut Friday. He was hitting .321 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 28 at-bats with Triple-A Iowa before his call-up. Cubs executive Theo Epstein said Bryant wouldn't have been brought up had 3B Mike Olt (wrist) not landed on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) looked overmatched and may have been pressing in his MLB debut Friday. If you had been stashing him in standard fantasy leagues, you'll want him in your starting lineups immediately. At FantasyScore, you may want to hold off and let him get his feet wet in the bigs first. A matchup against Padres starter Tyson Ross tomorrow could be another tough day for the youngster.

Cubs | Kris Bryant hitting cleanup

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 07:46:54 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant was recalled from Triple-A Iowa Friday, April 17, and is hitting cleanup against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant enters the fold with possibly the most hype since Bryce Harper came up in 2012. Give him a game or two to get his feet wet on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Kris Bryant to be called up Friday

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 18:36:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant will be called up Friday, April 17. The Cubs will begin a home series against the San Diego Padres Friday, with RHP James Shields expected to start the series opener for the Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant hit .333 with two home runs in 29 plate appearances through just six games for Class AAA Iowa. Bryant should be owned in every league and will be a popular play in FantasyScore right away. After a jaw-dropping spring training run, there seems to be little reason to not invest in Bryant immediately, but owners should be looking for lesser owned assets in GPP games.

Cubs | Kris Bryant promotion coming Friday?

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 13:27:40 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant is hitting .333 in six minor league games with Triple-A Iowa with two home runs to start the year. The first day he can be promoted to the majors so that the Cubs can pick up an extra year of service time on him would be Friday, April 17. 3B Mike Olt (wrist) is dealing with an injured right wrist and 2B Tommy La Stella (rib cage) just landed on the disabled list. Cubs third basemen are hitting a combined .125 with a .472 OPS and one extra-base hit.

Fantasy Tip: It would not be a shock to see Bryant called up at the end of this week for offensive reinforcement in Chicago. He's a popular pick as the National League Rookie of the Year in 2015, and he has heaps of upside and monster power potential. He'll be a popular play at FantasyScore when he arrives on the scene.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella headed for DL?

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 16:41:09 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (side), who hasn't played since last Wednesday because of a sore right side, could be headed for the disabled list. That could prompt the Cubs to promote 3B Kris Bryant from Triple-A Iowa. "They just started, though. We're trying to get him into a good rhythm down there. But we'll see. Obviously his development is a hugely important factor and the needs of the big league team as well," president Theo Epstein said. Bryant has hit four home runs in the last two games at Iowa.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant currently is unavailable at FantasyScore, because he's still in the minors. He should already be owned in all fantasy baseball leagues. Once Bryant is in the bigs, which could be at the end of this week, he'll likely be a popular FantasyScore play for his monstrous power upside.

Cubs | Kris Bryant stays hot in Class AAA

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 05:23:36 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant hit a home run, a double and drove in three RBI for Triple-A Iowa Saturday, April 11.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Bryant to join the Cubs sooner than later, and potentially as early as Friday, April 17. While there are no guarantees it will be that soon, those who paid the price for the coveted slugger should be ready to insert Bryant into their lineups immediately. Make sure to check his FantasyScore price tag when he is recalled, too.

Cubs | Kris Bryant disappointed with demotion

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 14:19:04 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant said he was extremely disappointed about being sent to minor league camp, but that he is now hungrier than ever Thursday, April 2. "I'll use this as motivation and fuel the fire. I've been told a lot in my life I couldn't do it."

Fantasy Tip: Bryant's fantasy value has skyrocketed over the past month with a huge spring showing. He finished with 14 runs, nine home runs, 15 RBI and a .425/.477/1.175 slash line. He is an excellent mid-round pick and worth targeting. However, there are safer options with proven track records available through the early rounds to hone in on. There is no guarantee Bryant hits the ground running at the major league level.

Cubs | Javier Baez, Kris Bryant sent down

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 09:53:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez was optioned to Triple-A Iowa Monday, March 30, and 3B Kris Bryant and SS Addison Russell were assigned to minor league camp.

Fantasy Tip: Baez, unlike Bryant, really struggled to make consistent contact this spring. It could be a while before the Cubbies bring him back up, as they'll likely want to see him cut down on his swings and misses. Bryant, on the other hand, could be up very soon after the first week or so of the regular season. Both Bryant and Baez should remain owned in all formats. The moves assure that Arismendy Alcantara ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) will see consistent playing time on the infield to start the year, and he'll be a sneaky FantasyScore play in the early going. Alcantara is worth a gamble in the later rounds of deep mixed leagues.

Cubs | Kris Bryant needs more seasoning?

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 11:38:30 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant says that he is ready to start the 2015 season in the major leagues, but team president Theo Epstein said the team is still evaluating the youngster, and he might need more seasoning in the minors before he makes his major league debut. Bryant currently leads all of baseball with nine home runs this spring and his batting .406 with 15 RBI. "I've never put a guy on an opening day roster who hadn't played in the big leagues previously. In 13 years, I've never done it," Epstein said. The Cubs can prevent Bryant from becoming a free agent until 2021 if he doesn't make his debut until at least mid-April.

Fantasy Tip: It seems likely that Bryant will start 2015 in the minors, but it surely won't be long before he'll make his major league debut. He belong on all fantasy rosters, and because of his excellent spring, he'll surely be way overpriced. Bryant's lack of consistent contact is a red flag, but his overwhelming power stroke is worth overpaying for, especially in keeper leagues.

Cubs | Rough game for Kris Bryant

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 18:37:37 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant struck out looking three times Thursday, March 26.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant's power potential is through the roof, but occasional rough patches are to be expected from any young player. Don't let a bad game stop you from taking Bryant in the middle rounds of your fantasy draft.
