Pirates | Austin Meadows injured

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 08:19:21 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Austin Meadows (undisclosed) was removed from the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game roster due to an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Tip: Meadows has been out of the lineup at Class AAA Indianapolis since June 30. If the injury doesn't persist long, he has a good chance to come up in September. If the Pirates fall out of the race and become sellers, he could come up even sooner. He's a good player to stash in NL-only formats.

Pirates | Could Andrew McCutchen be traded?

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 06:15:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen will likely remain with the team through this season, but he could be shopped in the offseason. Top prospect OF Austin Meadows could be ready to start in center in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: McCutchen is in the midst of the worst year of his career with a .240-12-32 line. He only has stolen two bases in six attempts as well, and the 29-year-old appears to be losing at least one of those five tools. He has time to turn it around, and he's too good of a hitter not to. If you're going to buy low on him, do so without consideration that his stolen bases could return.

Pirates | Austin Meadows improving

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:45:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Austin Meadows (eye), the club's No. 2 prospect, is working his way back into action after having surgery to fix an orbital fracture of his right eye March 19. Meadows still has to go through a normal spring training progression before starting his minor league season.

Fantasy Tip: Meadows checks in as's No. 19 prospect to start the year. He's proven to be a complete hitter with a short, compact swing, and his power-speed combination should play at the next level. However, Pittsburgh is stacked in the outfielder currently, so Meadows probably won't make an impact until maybe later in 2017. Keep an eye on him in keeper leagues for now.
