Ravens | Steve Smith's injury was more severe

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 07:20:08 -0700

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') suffered a double rupture of his Achilles' last season, which surgeon, Robert Anderson, said was the first one he had ever seen.

Fantasy Tip: Smith's tenacity and will has always been great. However, "Father Time" is undefeated. At 37, coming back from this catastrophic injury, it looks really bleak that Smith can be a dependable fantasy receiver. He'll be in the WR4 mix, but that's an area where you can find receivers with upside.

Ravens | Two BAL receivers idle

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 06:40:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') and WR Breshad Perriman (knee) are out of practice Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Smith still holds clout in fantasy, but at 37, it's hard to envision a return to anything more than desperation WR3 or a high-end WR4. Perriman has the talent worth rolling the dice on as a WR5.

Ravens | Ravens players placed on PUP list

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 12:30:25 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles'), WR Breshad Perriman (knee) and RB Trent Richardson (knee) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Smith and Perriman are still expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, although neither of them will probably play much in the preseason. Richardson can be avoided in fantasy drafts, while Smith and Perriman should be drafted as a low-end WR3 to high-end WR4 and WR5, respectively.

Ravens | Kamar Aiken not a projected starter

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 16:07:18 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WRs Steve Smith and Mike Wallace are projected as the two starting wide receivers for Baltimore, according to ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

Fantasy Tip: Aiken should still see a decent amount of targets even with Smith, Wallace and Breshad Perriman in the mix. Even with the large number of mouths to feed, Aiken is still a WR4 consideration heading into 2016.

Ravens | Steve Smith won't play much

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:33:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') probably won't play much in the preseason, if at all, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Tip: The Ravens want to give their best wide receiver all the rest he can get while not risking aggravation. Smith is best drafted as a WR3 this offseason.

Ravens | Steve Smith day-to-day

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:02:37 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') said he is day-to-day and is being smart with his rehabilitation. He is not concerned with playing the preseason if it does not happen.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Smith to take it easy for the rest of the offseason so as to not aggravate his Achilles' ailment. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he's worth a look as a WR3 as Baltimore's top receiving threat.

Ravens | Steve Smith to miss minicamp

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:58:37 -0700

As expected, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is not expected to participate in the team's three-day minicamp as he continues to rehab his Achilles' injury. He might be able for training camp and the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Watch Smith closely in July and August, as that will be a better determining factor on whether he'll be ready for Week 1 or not. He is expected to top the depth chart in Baltimore, so if he is healthy he would be a decent WR3/4 or flex option despite his advanced age. But make sure he is heathy first.

Ravens | No timetable for Steve Smith

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:06:26 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') has not be able to participate in organized team activities this offseason and is not sure when he will be able to return. Smith said he will need to do something during training camp in order to be ready for the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Smith will be able to do anything during training camp. He will be the No. 1 receiver in 2016 if he is healthy but is a risky fantasy option at this point. He probably should be considered a middle- to late-round option in drafts.

Ravens | Steve Smith thinks he'll be ready

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 07:07:55 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is confident he'll be ready for Week 1 after suffering a torn right Achilles' last season. "No setbacks. No real pain where you'd say, 'Oh, that's a concern,'" Smith said. "Just all good stuff to start and move forward."

Fantasy Tip: Smith shouldn't be taken as more than a WR4 due to his age and the significance the injury can have on a speed receiver.

Ravens | Steve Smith should be ready to go

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 14:48:37 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is expected to be ready to go for the start of the regular season, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has had and will have plenty of time to recover from the torn Achilles' tendon he suffered last season. There's always a risk in drafting a player coming off a serious injury, particularly at Smith's older age, but he should still be viewed as a low-end WR2 to high-end WR3.
