Ravens | Steve Smith receives day off

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 17:15:09 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Smith should be fine for the team's Week 4 game and should have a big role in the passing game. His receiving yards have improved in each of the last two games and should be an attractive option for owners in all leagues because of the matchup.

Ravens | Steve Smith leads team in receiving

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 14:42:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith caught eight passes for 87 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has improved on his stats in each of his last two games and should continue to be a reliable option for Joe Flacco. Owners should consider Smith as a solid No. 3 receiver against most opponents.

Ravens | Steve Smith has decent game

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:36:55 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith caught three passes for 64 yards against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Smith was targeted six times during the game and will continue to be one of the starting wide receivers for the Ravens. He should be a reliable option for fantasy owners this season as a No. 3 receiver or a flex option.

Ravens | Steve Smith held in check

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 14:23:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith caught five passes for 19 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Smith led the team in receptions and targets during the game and likely will post better numbers as the season goes on. He should be a No. 3 receiver or a flex option in most fantasy leagues.

Ravens | Baltimore confident in Steve Smith

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:52:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith is still a "great player" in the mind of head coach John Harbaugh, who suggested there is "no reason" why he will not play "great" against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Harbaugh may be confident in his 37-year-old receiver, but that doesn't mean fantasy owners should be. Smith did not play a single preseason snap after tearing his Achilles' midway through last season, so it would be a major upset if he had a huge game at any point early this season. Owners need to treat him as something of a high-risk WR4 at best until he actually puts something on tape post-injury. Mike Wallace and Kamar Aiken should be the top Baltimore receivers in 2016.

Ravens | Two Baltimore receivers won't play

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 13:29:47 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WRs Steve Smith (Achilles') and Breshad Perriman (knee) are not expected to play Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Detroit Lions. They did not practice Thursday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Both players have been dealing with injuries this offseason, and Smith is especially no surprise to be sitting out preseason action. Perriman is more disappointing as we haven't seen much of him over his first two years. As it stands, Smith is in low-end WR3 to high-end WR4 territory, while Perriman is more of a deep flier in later rounds.

Ravens | Kamar Aiken's numbers could suffer

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 21:49:05 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Kamar Aiken had 25 catches for 333 yards in eight games with WR Steve Smith last year, and Aiken had 50 catches for 611 yards in the eight games Smith missed.

Fantasy Tip: Aiken is a popular fantasy sleeper, but if Smith and Breshad Perriman stay healthy, Aiken could struggle to make an impact. He is worth a late-round grab, but don't overpay.

Ravens | Steve Smith activated

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 11:04:24 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, Aug. 17, and likely will participate in practice Monday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Smith will have a few weeks to prepare for the start of the season but will be the top target for Joe Flacco this season. Smith is one of the older receivers in the NFL but should still be a solid No. 4 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Ravens | Steve Smith's injury was more severe

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 07:20:08 -0700

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') suffered a double rupture of his Achilles' last season, which surgeon, Robert Anderson, said was the first one he had ever seen.

Fantasy Tip: Smith's tenacity and will has always been great. However, "Father Time" is undefeated. At 37, coming back from this catastrophic injury, it looks really bleak that Smith can be a dependable fantasy receiver. He'll be in the WR4 mix, but that's an area where you can find receivers with upside.

Ravens | Two BAL receivers idle

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 06:40:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') and WR Breshad Perriman (knee) are out of practice Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Smith still holds clout in fantasy, but at 37, it's hard to envision a return to anything more than desperation WR3 or a high-end WR4. Perriman has the talent worth rolling the dice on as a WR5.

Ravens | Ravens players placed on PUP list

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 12:30:25 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles'), WR Breshad Perriman (knee) and RB Trent Richardson (knee) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Smith and Perriman are still expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, although neither of them will probably play much in the preseason. Richardson can be avoided in fantasy drafts, while Smith and Perriman should be drafted as a low-end WR3 to high-end WR4 and WR5, respectively.

Ravens | Kamar Aiken not a projected starter

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 16:07:18 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WRs Steve Smith and Mike Wallace are projected as the two starting wide receivers for Baltimore, according to ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

Fantasy Tip: Aiken should still see a decent amount of targets even with Smith, Wallace and Breshad Perriman in the mix. Even with the large number of mouths to feed, Aiken is still a WR4 consideration heading into 2016.

Ravens | Steve Smith won't play much

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:33:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') probably won't play much in the preseason, if at all, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Tip: The Ravens want to give their best wide receiver all the rest he can get while not risking aggravation. Smith is best drafted as a WR3 this offseason.

Ravens | Steve Smith day-to-day

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:02:37 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') said he is day-to-day and is being smart with his rehabilitation. He is not concerned with playing the preseason if it does not happen.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Smith to take it easy for the rest of the offseason so as to not aggravate his Achilles' ailment. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he's worth a look as a WR3 as Baltimore's top receiving threat.

Ravens | Steve Smith to miss minicamp

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:58:37 -0700

As expected, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is not expected to participate in the team's three-day minicamp as he continues to rehab his Achilles' injury. He might be able for training camp and the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Watch Smith closely in July and August, as that will be a better determining factor on whether he'll be ready for Week 1 or not. He is expected to top the depth chart in Baltimore, so if he is healthy he would be a decent WR3/4 or flex option despite his advanced age. But make sure he is heathy first.

Ravens | No timetable for Steve Smith

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:06:26 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') has not be able to participate in organized team activities this offseason and is not sure when he will be able to return. Smith said he will need to do something during training camp in order to be ready for the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Smith will be able to do anything during training camp. He will be the No. 1 receiver in 2016 if he is healthy but is a risky fantasy option at this point. He probably should be considered a middle- to late-round option in drafts.

Ravens | Steve Smith thinks he'll be ready

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 07:07:55 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is confident he'll be ready for Week 1 after suffering a torn right Achilles' last season. "No setbacks. No real pain where you'd say, 'Oh, that's a concern,'" Smith said. "Just all good stuff to start and move forward."

Fantasy Tip: Smith shouldn't be taken as more than a WR4 due to his age and the significance the injury can have on a speed receiver.

Ravens | Steve Smith should be ready to go

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 14:48:37 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is expected to be ready to go for the start of the regular season, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has had and will have plenty of time to recover from the torn Achilles' tendon he suffered last season. There's always a risk in drafting a player coming off a serious injury, particularly at Smith's older age, but he should still be viewed as a low-end WR2 to high-end WR3.

Ravens | Baltimore wants to add receiver

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 15:04:09 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WRs Steve Smith, Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman and others may have more company next season. General manager Ozzie Newsome said the Ravens have to add depth at wide receiver this offseason, whether it be through the NFL Draft or through free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Unless it's a big-name free agent that joins the Ravens, it's likely that Smith and Aiken will maintain their positions as the top two wide receivers in Baltimore. Perriman has yet to show his full potential after being injured for the better part of his rookie season, but he could come onto the scene in 2016.

Ravens | Steve Smith expected to be ready

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 11:27:04 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is expected to be ready for training camp this summer, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Tip: Smith will be 37 years old for the 2016 season. He was performing admirably up until his season-ending Achilles' injury this year, though, so don't put it past him to put up at least flex-worth numbers if he can stay healthy.

Ravens | Steve Smith out of walking boot

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 10:30:34 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') shed his walking boot Monday, Jan. 4, after eight weeks, and he said he has more four more weeks of rest before he can start to move around. "I won't be ahead of schedule. If anything, to be safe, I'll be behind schedule. With an injury like this, you don't want to be ahead of schedule. That takes away a lot of stuff."

Fantasy Tip: Even at age 36, Smith was having a fine season before his injury, catching 46 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns through seven games. He'll be 37 for the 2016 season, but he can still be productive if you don't overvalue him on your fantasy squad as anything more than a WR3 of flex player.

Ravens | Steve Smith coming back in 2016

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 09:29:49 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith announced on his Twitter account Wednesday, Dec. 30, that he will officially return to the Ravens in 2016. Smith previously had announced before the season that he would retire.

Fantasy Tip: A torn Achilles' midway through the season changed things for Smith, and he wants to go out on his own terms next year. Smith was very impressive in the seven games he did play, catching 46 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns. He'll have his flashes next season with Baltimore, but at his age (36), you shouldn't view him as anything more than a high-end WR4.

Ravens | Steve Smith eyeing return in 2016

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 08:21:58 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') is hopeful to return to the NFL next season, provided that he is healthy enough to do so, according to multiple sources who have maintained regular contact with him. He is no longer using a walking boot and has resorted to hydrotherapy in order to minimize atrophy.

Fantasy Tip: Smith may be leaning towards returning in 2016 because he doesn't want to end his career on an injury. He would be playing on the final season of a three-year, $10.5 million deal. Fantasy owners should monitor this situation throughout the offseason to see if Smith comes back.

Ravens | Steve Smith to IR

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 07:37:33 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Nov. 4. TE Konrad Reuland was also waived.

Fantasy Tip: The Ravens' receiving corps looks really bleak now since Kamar Aiken ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) yet to pick up the slack. The Ravens are on a bye this week, but Aiken has a date with the Jacksonville Jaguars next week. He'll be an unproven flyer on FantasyScore.

Ravens | Steve Smith may not retire

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 16:25:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') has not made a final decision on his playing status for 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Smith will not play again in 2015 because of a torn Achilles' tendon and may decide to return next season because he does not want to finish his career with an injury. Owners should monitor the situation in the offseason to see if he will play again.

Ravens | Steve Smith intends to return next year

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 10:24:31 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') has scheduled surgery on Nov. 9 with the intentions of returning to play next season, according to sources. Smith tore his Achilles' tendon in the Week 8 game against the San Diego Chargers. The Ravens would welcome him back if he chooses to return in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: It's a lot to ask of a 36-year-old to come back from such a serious injury, but if anyone can pull it off, it might be Smith, who is as tough as they come and a fierce competitor. Smith had put up great numbers this year despite missing a game due to injury. However, coming off this injury if he does return next year, you should drastically lower expectations as your WR4 or 5 next season.

Ravens | Steve Smith has torn Achilles'

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 13:09:28 -0800

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles', according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) had been on record as saying that he was going to retire at the end of the 2015 season but it's hard to imagine his career ending on this note. In fact, Harbaugh said at his postgame press conference that he has a feeling that he'll be back in 2016. Smith will finish the year with 46 receptions, 670 receiving yards and three touchdowns and is just 39 catches away from 1,000 career receptions.

Ravens | Steve Smith injures foot

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 12:27:21 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (foot) is doubtful to return to Week 8's game against the San Diego Chargers after suffering a foot injury.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) led the Ravens with five receptions for 82 yards before leaving the game. Expect Kamar Aiken ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Chris Givens ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) to see more targets for the rest of the afternoon. Check back regularly for further updates on Smith's status.

Ravens | Steve Smith not on trade block

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 07:47:40 -0800

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith has been a trade target for some teams leading up to the trade deadline, but the Ravens have told interested teams that he is not available.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) has said he does not want to be traded, so he likely will stay with the Ravens for the rest of the season. He has played well this season and should be a starting fantasy option most weeks.

Ravens | Steve Smith listed as probable

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 12:29:05 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 30, and is listed as probable for the Week 8 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) should be able to play against the Chargers even though he was added to the injury report earlier in the week. Smith will continue to be the team's top receiving option and should be a starting option despite his tough matchup.

Ravens | Steve Smith not at full speed

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 08:59:37 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (knee) is running with a hitch in his step, especially on longer routes, and will likely be limited Friday, Oct. 30. He's expected to play Sunday, Nov. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) has a midrange matchup against the San Diego Chargers, but there's not a lot of upside for FantasyScore usage.

Ravens | Steve Smith added to injury report

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 14:38:41 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 29. It was reported that Smith tweaked his knee on a sideline route during practice.

Fantasy Tip: The extent of Smith's knee injury wasn't disclosed, but it doesn't seem to be too serious. For a guy who has played with rib injuries this year, it doesn't seem like a non-serious knee injury would keep Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) sidelined. Assuming he is able to go, he might be somewhat of a risky play against one of the better fantasy pass defenses in the San Diego Chargers.

Ravens | Baltimore relying on Steve Smith

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 09:25:21 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith has 588 yards receiving this year, which is 42 more yards than the other six Ravens receivers combined. Smith has also missed a game and has played the last two weeks with four microfractures in his back.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) will continue to play injured, and it shouldn't hamper him unless he aggravates it. On a team with limited weapons in the passing game, Smith will continue to see plenty of targets from Joe Flacco, making him rather safe in all fantasy formats.

Ravens | Steve Smith moves up receiving list

Tue, 27 Oct 2015 09:45:48 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith is second in the league on plays of 20-plus yards this year, and he passed Henry Ellard and Indianapolis Colts WR Andre Johnson for 11th place on the all-time list for receiving yards in Week 7 Monday, Oct. 26. Smith has 18,292 all-purpose yards in his career, which puts him behind only Jerry Rice and Tim Brown.

Fantasy Tip: He may be old, but Smith ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) continues to produce for fantasy owners as one of Joe Flacco's only real reliable aerial weapon. Smith should continue to receive enough targets in Baltimore's offense to be considered a pretty safe fantasy option on a weekly basis.

Ravens | Steve Smith targeted nine times

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 22:18:32 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. posted five receptions for 78 yards in the Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Oct. 26. He was targeted a game-high nine times.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is the only useful FantasyScore option in Baltimore, and Joe Flacco looks for him whenever he needs a clutch reception. He remains a solid low-end WR2 or flex option when healthy.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald showing consistency

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 11:33:57 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has caught at least one pass in 169 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NFL. New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall (134) and Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (127) are second and third, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald is having quite a tremendous rebound of a 2015 season after a disappointing 2014 campaign. Marshall and Smith are also leading their respective clubs in receiving. All three are WR1s at this point and worth starting every week as long as they're healthy.

Ravens | Baltimore not trying to trade Steve Smith

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 13:16:14 -0700

The Baltimore Ravens aren't considering trading WR Steve Smith, according to head coach John Harbaugh. There has been speculation that Baltimore would consider trading Smith amid a 1-5 start, the worst start in franchise history. Smith is expected to retire at the end of the season. Smith currently leads the team with 36 catches for 510 yards and three touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is likely to be matched up against shutdown corner Patrick Peterson when the Ravens play the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. That's enough the fade Smith in daily games this week.

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 10:37:49 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith said he would quit if he was traded Friday, Oct. 23. "I like to finish what I started," Smith said.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has a tough draw against the Arizona Cardinals and the likely Patrick Peterson matchup. He's a risky WR2 on FantasyScore Monday night.

Ravens | Steve Smith off injury report

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 17:21:17 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) is not in the injury report for the Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has been dealing with some fractures in his back but appears to be ready to play. He will be facing a tough Cardinals secondary but could still be a solid option since he should receive plenty of targets.

Ravens | Steve Smith's plans unchanged

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 07:59:19 -0700

"I'm taking it one game at a time - not really focusing on that other stuff," Smith said Wednesday, Oct. 21. "I'm on schedule for what I discussed earlier in the year, and I'm enjoying it with the wins and losses."

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has a tough draw Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals, but he'll be a WR2 to consider on FantasyScore this week.

Ravens | Steve Smith delivers in return

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 17:43:17 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) had seven catches on 10 targets for 137 yards and a touchdown in a 25-20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Not only was Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) able to play through the back injury that sidelined him in Week 5, but he looked no worse for wear. He is the top target in the Baltimore passing attack, and while he is a quality starting option at FantasyScore most weeks, a road meeting with Patrick Patterson and the Cardinals in Week 7 is not the best time to use him.

Ravens | Steve Smith active for Week 6

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 12:18:48 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) is active for the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) will play despite some fractures in his back. He will be a risky option for fantasy owners because of the injury but could be used since he probably will be targeted often.

Ravens | Steve Smith expected to dress

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 07:55:19 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) is expected to play in the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers even though he is listed as questionable.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) appears ready to play even though he is dealing with some small fractures in his back. Smith will be facing a 49ers defense that ranks in the top five in most fantasy points allowed to wide receivers this season but is still a risky option because of his injury. Owners that have other options may want to consider starting them over Smith.

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 16, and is listed as questionable for the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has said he is not sure if he will be able to play, so there appears to be a good chance that he will miss the game. Owners will need to check the inactive list to find out the formal status for the game. Owners probably should look for other options to use.

Ravens | Steve Smith limited

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 17:09:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has a chance to play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, but owners should monitor his practice participation during the week. Smith will be a risky option if he is active because of the injury but has a favorable matchup since the 49ers allow the fifth most fantasy points to wide receivers.

Ravens | Steve Smith not on the lineup

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 09:09:54 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (back) has been declared inactive for the Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) could miss a few weeks because of the fractures in his back. Kamar Aiken ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should see more targets this week but is a risky option because he likely will be covered by Browns CB Joe Haden for most of the game.
