Chicago White Sox 1B Jose Abreu, who was 1-for-21 entering the game Thursday, April 17, was replaced in the lineup by 1B Paul Konerko.
Fantasy Tip: After his red hot start to the season, Abreu is showing signs of being human. This is his first real taste of adversity in the big leagues, and it'll be interesting to see how he responds. If you have other options at 1B, you may want to keep him reserved until he snaps out of it.

Chicago White Sox 1B Paul Konerko will start the team's opening day game on the bench, breaking his streak of 16 straight opening day starts. 1B Jose Abreu is expected to start at first games and DH Adam Dunn will serve as the designated hitter against a right-handed pitcher. Dunn is .240 in his career against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco.
Fantasy Tip: Konerko's final season will see him sit out often as he platoons at DH and spells Abreu at first base on occasion. For that reason, he's only attractive as a bench player in AL-only leagues.

Scouts have touted Chicago White Sox 1B Jose Abreu with having monster raw power at the plate but lacking overall athleticism and speed similar to Oakland Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes or Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig. The thing that has stood out about Abreu in camp, though, is that he's very diligent, focused and disciplined as a hitter, taking the ball the other way in batting practice instead of focusing on hitting massive home runs to impress.
Some scouts think Abreu will be a .260, 25-30 home run type that will struggle against top-of-the rotation starters. Abreu has spent more time in the cages than any other player on the team, though, and he arrives early each morning to get his work in. He has blended in seamlessly into the team's clubhouse this spring, and fellow Cuban natives SS Alexei Ramirez and C Adrian Nieto have helped him with that.
Fantasy Tip: This should come as good news to those willing to take the leap on Abreu in his rookie season. Not many are doubting that he has 25-30 home run power, but his attention to detail and discipline at the plate may make him an even safer investment.
