Mets | Jacob deGrom victorious after long layoff

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 15:07:47 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom was predictably rusty in his first start in 16 days but allowed one run on eight hits and struck out three over 5 2/3 frames in a win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: It had been a trying two-plus weeks for deGrom, who missed time to recover from a lat issue and deal with a medical emergency with his newborn son. The 27-year-old ace should be a bit sharper - and is a recommended fantasy start - in his next scheduled turn against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.

Braves | Erick Aybar not playing

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:44:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Sunday, April 24. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop in place of Aybar. OF Kelly Johnson will start at second base, while 2B Jace Peterson will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has gone 3-for-11 with three RBI over the last seven days but his hitting only .206 on the season. Owners probably could find better options to use in their lineups.

Mets | Jacob deGrom ready for Sunday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:23:09 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom (lat) threw his bullpen session with no problems Friday, April 22, and is set to face the Atlanta Braves Sunday, April 24. Manager Terry Collins is hopeful that deGrom can throw 85 pitches Sunday. DeGrom hasn't pitched in a game since April 8.

Fantasy Tip: DeGrom is a much bigger fantasy risk this Sunday than ever before due to his recent injury woes and the fact he's had a long layoff. But the matchup couldn't be better against Atlanta. He's not worth paying up for in daily contests, but deGrom has a high floor in all other leagues.

Mets | Jacob deGrom throws sim game

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:18:14 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom threw 71 pitches in a simulated game at the team's minor-league facility in Florida, and he remains on track to make his next turn in the rotation Sunday, April 24 against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: DeGrom has had a whirlwind past week or so, missing a start due to a latissimus muscle in his right side, as well as a medical emergency with his newborn son. Monitor his start Sunday before plugging him back into the active fantasy lineup.

Mets | Jacob deGrom to return Sunday

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 13:37:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom (lat) will return to the starting rotation Sunday, April 24, after time away on the family medical emergency list.

Fantasy Tip: Issues with deGrom's newborn son have cleared up, and his lat appears to be doing better, so he will return. Immediately activate him in your lineup. The matchup against Atlanta is a nice one to come back to.

Mets | Jacob deGrom throws sim game

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 10:35:50 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom (lat) threw a 71-pitch simulated game in Florida Tuesday, April 19, and is expected to return to the rotation for his next turn. However, it's unclear if that will come this weekend against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that deGrom's lat issue appears to be behind him. He should be able to give close to a full workload in his next start, but he may not be completely 100%. If he starts against Atlanta this weekend, you'll want to return deGrom to all starting lineups.

Mets | Jacob deGrom continues to throw

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 09:10:29 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom will be inactive for three to seven days after going on emergency leave because of health "complications" with his newborn son Saturday, April 16, but deGrom continues to throw off a mound despite being away from the Mets. He threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday and will throw a simulated game Tuesday, April 19. The Mets think deGrom could re-enter the rotation for a shorter outing next weekend against the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that deGrom's lat issue appears to be behind him since he's throwing without issues. The bad news is you'll probably want to avoid him everywhere if he returns for an abbreviated outing this weekend, even if it's against the light-hitting Braves.

Mets | Jacob deGrom away from team

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:56:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom (lat) has been placed on the bereavement/medical emergency list because of an issue regarding his newborn baby. In a corresponding move, INF Eric Campbell has been promoted from Class AAA Las Vegas.

Fantasy Tip: The club is expected to release more information on the situation later today, so stay tuned for further updates. DeGrom had been scheduled to pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, April 19, but Logan Verrett will receive the start instead. DeGrom is expected to be away from the club for three to seven days and he should remain stashed in all fantasy formats.

Mets | Logan Verrett starting Tuesday

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:44:35 -0700

Confirming a previous report, New York Mets P Logan Verrett will start in place of SP Jacob deGrom (lat) against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, April 19. DeGrom was placed on the bereavement/medical emergency list because of an issue with his newborn baby.

Fantasy Tip: Verrett has posted a 1.29 ERA in two appearances (one start) this year, with three walks and seven strikeouts over seven innings. He has a favorable matchup against a light-hitting Philadelphia squad and should be viewed as a value play in daily fantasy games.

Mets | Jacob deGrom unlikely to start Tuesday

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 14:45:46 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom (lat) is now "unlikely" to make his next start against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, April 19. SP Logan Verrett is expected to fill in again. The Mets are likely to make a disabled list decision on deGrom soon.

Fantasy Tip: A career-high 191 innings plus playoff outings may have taken their toll on deGrom, as he also dealt with nagging injuries this spring which kept his velocity down. He's a legitimate fantasy ace when he's healthy, but you'll have to find backup plans in the event he lands on the DL. Verrett pitched six shutout innings in his spot start against the Marlins Wednesday and will be attractive once again for a fantasy spot start against the weak-hitting Phils next week if it comes to that.
