Mets | Jacob deGrom tosses eight scoreless

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 19:51:01 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom allowed seven hits while walking one and striking out six over eight scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Atlanta Braves Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a 2.67 ERA, deGrom is just 3-4 on the year thanks to a lack of run support. He is still a strong starting option in season-long formats, but his lack of wins hurts his appeal in DFS games.

Mets | Jacob deGrom unable to end drought

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 20:43:29 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom allowed three earned runs, six hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over six innings in a loss in Game 2 of a doubleheader Tuesday, June 7, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. DeGrom hasn't won in seven starts.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the winless skid, deGrom still has a sparkling 2.80 ERA. He just isn't getting any run support. He had another quality start with a high rate of strikeouts and he remains a must-start across all fantasy formats and DFS play despite the winless stretch.

Mets | Jacob deGrom has best start of year

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 16:10:55 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom registered his best start of the season Wednesday, June 1, against the Chicago White Sox. The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year spun seven terrific innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits. He also struck out a season-high 10 compared to two walks.

Fantasy Tip: While he wasn't rewarded with the win, his owners will take this all day, as this was deGrom at his best here. It was an encouraging performance, too, considering the right-hander's high strikeout rate has dropped considerably in 2016, so perhaps this is an indication he can bring that mark up again. Either way, an impressive outing, and it's the second straight start that deGrom has gone at least seven innings and issued only one run.

Mets | Jacob deGrom tosses gem Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 19:22:52 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom allowed one run on three hits over seven innings in a no-decision over the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, May 27, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: DeGrom pitched well enough to earn the victory Friday but was let down by his bullpen. He has 14 strikeouts in his last 10 innings and should be started with confidence in all formats during his next outing against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, June 1.

Mets | Jacob deGrom's velocity down

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:46:15 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom's velocity has been down of late. He averaged only 91 mph with his fastball in his last start Sunday, May 15, and threw a heater as low as 89 mph at one point in that game. DeGrom's fastball averaged 95 mph in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: DeGrom is sporting a tidy 2.50 ERA in six starts despite the decreased velocity. But his 5.8 K/9 is considerably low considering he struck out 9.7 hitters per nine innings in his breakout season last year. Decreased velocity can be a sign of an injury, so stay tuned. It could be attributed to a career-high 191 innings last year. This is certainly something to watch out for.

Mets | Jacob deGrom still not happy

Sun, 15 May 2016 18:16:05 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom said he is still not happy with his mechanics following a no-decision against the Colorado Rockies Sunday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Other than a lack of strikeouts, deGrom has remained a strong starting option this year, and he should only improve as he irons out his mechanics.

Rockies | CarGo ends pair of long droughts

Sun, 15 May 2016 17:29:29 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and put the brakes on a pair of surprisingly long dry spells on Sunday, May 15, with a sixth-inning solo shot off New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom. The homer was his first in 25 games and snapped a 17-game streak without an RBI.

Fantasy Tip: The effort has to be a relief for Gonzalez, who has five home runs and 13 RBI through 36 games. All owners need to remember about the 30-year-old is that he is still batting .295 after today's game despite going hitless in 13 at-bats over the previous four contests. Gonzalez has been a much better hitter on the road this season, which is exactly where he will go Tuesday when the Rockies travel to St. Louis to face the Cardinals.

Mets | Jacob deGrom working on mechanics

Wed, 11 May 2016 20:48:02 -0700

New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom made in-game adjustments in his start Tuesday, May 10, and noticed that his front side was a little low in his delivery. He said his stuff was flat in the zone, and he gave up two early runs but ended up finishing seven innings.

"I came in and watched some video right after I came out," deGrom said after his previous start. "Last year my elbow was above my shoulder. This year it's not even getting close to above it, and my stride is toward the first-base side. I don't know if you see how far I'm falling off toward first base. There's some things to work on there."

Fantasy Tip: He's clearly fighting it on the mound, but deGrom still owns a 2.12 ERA. The strikeouts aren't there at 6.07 per nine innings, and opponents are hitting .274 against him, but there's still a lot of optimism. While he's not delivering SP1 results yet, deGrom is still a high-end DFS consideration each time out.

Mets | Jacob deGrom caps solid April

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 22:37:23 -0700

New York Mets RP Jacob deGrom allowed three runs, all unearned, and allowed two hits in six innings Saturday, April 30, in a 6-5 win over the San Francisco Giants. He has a 1.02 earned run average.

Fantasy Tip: DeGrom has been solid despite overcoming a lat injury and time off due to his newborn son's health issues. Right now, he remains a strong fantasy start thanks to his team's sterling offense.
