Athletics | Josh Reddick activated from the DL

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 15:01:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (thumb) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, June 28. In a corresponding move, OF Max Muncy was optioned to Class AAA Nashville.

Fantasy Tip: Reddick returned a .322/.394/.466 slash line with 21 runs, five home runs, 18 RBI and four stolen bases through 41 games before the thumb injury, so don't underestimate him as a viable starter in all fantasy leagues. Check your waiver wires. Muncy should be replaced in all leagues.

Athletics | Khris Davis to start in LF

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:14:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis will start in left field against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija Monday, June 27, because the team does not have a designated hitter available. OF Max Muncy is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is hitting .269 with two home runs and five RBI over the last seven days and should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Oakland resting four starters

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:00:52 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns, C Stephen Vogt, 2B Jed Lowrie and 3B Max Muncy are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Sunday, June 26. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting fifth. OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting sixth. C Josh Phegley will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while SS Arismendy Alcantara will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler, Smolinski and Phegley has posted decent numbers in their limited playing time this season but are not strong options in most leagues. Alcantara has gone 1-for-4 since being recalled and should be avoided in all leagues at this point.

Athletics | Coco Crisp sitting vs. Angels

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:02:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 24. OF Max Muncy draws into the lineup in right field and is batting ninth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SPJered Weaver Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp's cross-category production remains viable in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but otherwise, he shouldn't be on your radar. Muncy is best left to similar deep settings as a depth option.

Athletics | No Billy Burns vs. Angels

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 15:12:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 23. OF Max Muncy draws into the lineup in right field and is batting second against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Burns remains a viable fantasy asset in the majority of seasonal leagues because of his speed. However, after batting .294 with 26 stolen bases last year, his .241 batting average and 13 swipes to date are underwhelming. Muncy owns a career .214/.296/.381 slash line through 142 plate appearances, and he is a desperation fantasy option Thursday.

Athletics | Jake Smolinski back to the bench

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 10:20:36 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Jake Smolinski, despite going 8-for-16 with two home runs during a six-game hitting streak, will move back to the bench with the team back to facing right-handed pitchers. 1B Max Muncy started Thursday, June 16. Head coach Bob Melvin thinks Smolinski has a chance to be an everyday player in the big leagues, but that time isn't now, especially with OF Josh Reddick (thumb) coming back soon.

Fantasy Tip: Well there you go. Make sure you don't invest too much in either Smolinski or Muncy in AL-only leagues, since they're both short-term outfield filler until Reddick returns.

Athletics | Several OAK regulars sitting out Sunday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 08:22:12 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OFs Max Muncy and Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Sunday, June 12. 1B Billy Butler will bat fifth and play first base, while C Josh Phegley will bat seventh and start behind the plate. In addition, OF Khris Davis (hand) will bat cleanup and play left field, while OF Jake Smolinski starts in right field and bats eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are facing a left-handed pitcher this afternoon, which explains why their lineup is stocked with right-handed batters and switch hitters. Phegley and Smolinski should be viewed as productive sources of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Athletics | Khris Davis out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 10:54:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis is out of the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily Saturday, June 11. OF Coco Crisp will hit leadoff and play left field, OF Max Muncy will start in right field and bat seventh and OF Billy Burns will bat eighth and play center field.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are playing in a National League stadium this weekend and Davis is just 2-for-17 (.118) at the plate in June, hence his absence from the lineup. However, Crisp and Burns haven't been much better recently, batting .120 and .160 respectively this month. Muncy is receiving his second start in as many days in right field and could continue to see regular playing time as a result of the team trading Chris Coghlan to the Cubs earlier this week.

Athletics | Max Muncy draws into lineup

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 11:41:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Max Muncy is starting in right field and is hitting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani Friday, June 10. OF Billy Burns will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: With Chris Coghlan traded to the Cubs yesterday, Muncy could see occasional playing time in the outfield for the A's. He has a career .215/.280/.393 slash line, though, with just three home runs last season and is purely a depth consideration for AL-only owners.

Athletics | Max Muncy recalled

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 10:55:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Max Muncy and SP Zach Neal were recalled from Class AAA Nashville Friday, June 10, while SP Jesse Hahn was sent to Nashville.

Fantasy Tip: Muncy has a .263-7-20 line at Triple-A, and he'll be a basement option in good matchups in DFS. Neal is 6-1 with a 2.83 ERA in the minors, but he has fanned just 23 in 47 2/3 innings. His fantasy prowess is pretty minimal if he makes a start.
