Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka struggling with homers

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 19:25:42 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka allowed five hits, including three solo home runs, and struck out seven in 7 2/3 innings in a win over the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, July 23, and he has allowed 11 home runs over his last six starts.

Fantasy Tip: Although Tanaka ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) was able to work around the homers Thursday, the trend is troubling. Make sure he has a decent matchup before using him at FantasyScore.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (6-3) allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings in a victory over the Seattle Mariners Friday, July 17, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: It was Tanaka's ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) second win this season against Seattle in as many starts. He will make his next start against the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, July 23.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka to open second half

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 06:15:08 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka will start Friday, July 17, against the Seattle Mariners to open the second half of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has pitched well of late and had a brilliant start against Seattle earlier this season. He'll be a high-end option on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka bounces back

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 14:38:51 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka allowed two runs -- one earned -- on two hits and a walk while striking out six batters through 7 2/3 innings during the Yankees 6-2 win over the Oakland Athletics Thursday, July 9. Tanaka earned his fifth victory of the season in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) had a 7.88 ERA while allowing a .338/.373/.691 slash line over his previous three starts, so the outing was a welcomed return for fantasy owners. Tanaka has dealt with injuries each of the past two season, but when on the hill and healthy, he has proven to be an excellent fantasy option more often than not. Still, it wouldn't hurt being selective with when you utilize him at FantasyScore due to his recent tough run.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka in a tailspin

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 18:12:23 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka is set to face the Oakland Athletics Thursday, July 9, in the afternoon series finale at home. Over his past four starts he is 0-2 with a 6.26 ERA with 22 strikeouts over 23 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($8,500; or 17.0% of cap) has been helping FantasyScore owners with strikeouts, but he has been giving up a ton of runs. At this price he is a bit too risky.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka shelled

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 16:21:00 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka allowed a career high-tying 10 hits and seven runs in five innings in a loss to the Detroit Tigers Sunday, June 21.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) is now 2-2 since returning from the disabled list, and although he has been impressive in three of his four starts, he isn't a must-start option at FantasyScore like many of the other starters in his price range.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka likely to start Sunday

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 16:46:55 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka will likely make his next start Sunday, June 21, against the Detroit Tigers, as he's expected to be given an extra day of rest.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) has allowed just four earned runs in three starts since making his return to the rotation. Tanaka will have his regularly high upside, but he'll also carry more risk than usual while facing the Tigers at Yankee Stadium. Tanaka should be reserved for GPP use on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka back to dominant form

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 11:13:52 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka looked very impressive in his win over the Washington Nationals Tuesday, June 9, striking out six and walking none in seven innings. Sixty three of his 87 pitches were strikes. Tanaka touched 95 mph on the radar gun once with his heater but was consistently in the 93 mph range, and he had command of all of his pitches. C Brian McCann said Tanaka looks like the dominant pitcher he was in 2014. He's given up only two runs in 14 innings since he returned from the disabled list, and he is now 4-1 with a 2.48 ERA on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Remember, Tanaka ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) continues to defy the odds and pitch through a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. It's an injury that seems inevitable to need Tommy John surgery, but as long as he's looking dominant and has no velocity concerns, you should keep running him out there in fantasy leagues and on FantasyScore. There could be no better time to sell high on him in traditional formats, though.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka limits Nationals

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 19:02:50 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka allowed a single run on five hits with six strikeouts to win his fourth game of the season during New York's 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals Tuesday, June 9.

Fantasy Tip: With consecutive top-tier outings since returning from a forearm and wrist injury, Tanaka ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) can again be counted on as a solid fantasy option in all formats. His year-long numbers sit at a 2.48 ERA, a 0.80 WHIP and 39 strikeouts over 36 1/3 innings. Opposing hitters have a measly .172 batting average against him, too.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka sees velocity uptick

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 12:12:11 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka said his elbow feels as good as it did last season, when he posted a 2.10 ERA in 115 innings over a three-month stretch. During his most recent start against the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, June 3, Tanaka averaged 93 mph on his fastball and even hit 95 mph on the radar gun several times.

Fantasy Tip: It's good to see that Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) is throwing at his normal velocity again, although he relies more on location. His next start will be against Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals Tuesday, June 9, making him a somewhat risky FantasyScore option.
