Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka to rehab Wednesday

Fri, 22 May 2015 13:48:54 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) will make a rehab start with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Wednesday, May 27, and throw 65 pitches, according to manager Joe Girardi. Tanaka could return to the Yankees rotation after that outing.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) will immediately return to the rotation for the Yanks. But remember, he's also pitching with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, and he'll continue to be a risk/reward FantasyScore pitching option. He's likely to replace Chris Capuano ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) in the rotation.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka solid in rehab start

Thu, 21 May 2015 19:23:20 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) threw three scoreless innings in his first rehab start for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Thursday, May 21. "I felt pretty good out there," Tanaka said. "I was able to use all of my pitches, and I felt good. I feel confident in all of the pitches that I threw."

Fantasy Tip: An exact timetable for his return is still unclear, but the news is encouraging for Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap). He will make a few more rehab starts and could return to the rotation after that. Continue to hold on to him if you own him in seasonal leagues.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka to make rehab start

Tue, 19 May 2015 16:53:36 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) will make a rehab start Thursday, May 21, for Class AAA Scranton (Pa.). Manager Joe Girardi said Tanaka will throw 45 pitches in his first appearance and the team will decide from there how many he'll throw the next time out.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) should be owned in all leagues, and he'll be worth immediate consideration on FantasyScore upon his return to the rotation.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka nearing a rehab start

Mon, 18 May 2015 12:20:37 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) threw a 29-pitch bullpen session Monday, May 18, and the next step in his return is a rehab start. He is expected to require one or two rehab starts, and in a best-case scenario, return in late May.

Fantasy Tip: A late-May return seems aggressive, and it is more likely Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) rejoins the rotation sometime before mid-June. When on the mound, Tanaka has been a great fantasy asset, however, he has only pitched 158 2/3 innings dating back to the beginning of last season. Continue to check back for updates on Tanaka's recovery, but fantasy owners will want to keep expectations in check. 29 pitches is a long way away from having any fantasy impact.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka pain-free after bullpen

Fri, 15 May 2015 14:11:49 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) threw 35 pitches during his bullpen session Friday, May 15, and he had no issues and said he felt nothing in his arm.

Fantasy Tip: While it is positive news for Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap), there is still no concrete timeline for his return, and 35 pitches is a long way from being an impact starter for fantasy teams. Continue to check back for updates and stashing him in seasonal leagues.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka tosses bullpen session

Fri, 15 May 2015 14:00:37 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) threw a bullpen session Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players can ignore Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) until he returns and shows he is capable of going deep into a game. Seasonal owners should stash Tanaka in all formats, although, there is currently no timeline for his return.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka to throw Friday

Wed, 13 May 2015 22:02:48 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) will throw his second bullpen session Friday, May 15. He is working his way back from a right forearm strain and wrist ailment.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka throws 'pen

Tue, 12 May 2015 14:11:10 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) threw his first bullpen session Tuesday, May 12, since going on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm and tendinitis in his right wrist. He threw 30 pitches but still has no timetable for a return to the rotation. The Yankees said Tanaka would miss at least a month when he first went on the DL April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) is slowly working his way back while also dealing with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. It seems inevitable that he'll need to have Tommy John surgery, and it may be a miracle if he finishes out the 2015 season in the rotation. Tanaka will continue to be a risk/reward option at FantasyScore when he returns to action.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka to throw bullpen Tuesday

Mon, 11 May 2015 13:23:28 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist) threw on flat ground Monday, May 11, and is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) still has a ways to go before being able to return to the starting rotation, and there still remains plenty of concern as to whether he can get through the rest of the season while pitching with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He'll continue to be a risk/reward option for fantasy owners if he's pitching in the majors in 2015.
