Athletics | Marcus Semien has big stat line

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 22:58:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a double, three-run home run and four RBIs Monday, June 27, against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Semien is up to 15 homers with 39 RBIs, as his career season continues. While his .248 batting average makes him slightly less attractive in rotisserie formats, he is a must-start across the board due to his expected power outburst.

Athletics | Marcus Semien moves up in lineup

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:12:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien is batting second in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Sunday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Semien is hitting .381 with one home run and six RBI over the last seven days. He has posted a .298 batting average against left-handed pitchers and should be a fine starting candidate in most daily fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Marcus Semien tallies three RBI

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:44:45 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, June 21.

Fantasy Tip: Semien is now 17-for-64 (.266) with two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored in June. His average is still low, but he's fifth among shortstops in home runs (12) and tied for 10th in RBI (31) on the year. As such, Semien has modest value in larger mixed leagues.

Athletics | Marcus Semien collects three hits

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 23:46:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien went 3-for-5 with a run scored, RBI and stolen base Monday, June 13, against the Texas Rangers to improve his average to .242.

Fantasy Tip: Semien has hit safely in four straight, and 10 of the past 12 games, raising his average from .215 to .242 since May 27. He is a solid middle infielder option in AL-only seasonal play and a salary saver in DFS play.

Athletics | Three A's regulars out

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 14:54:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie, OF Billy Burns and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Cesar Ramos Monday, June 13. SS Tyler Ladendorf is starting at second base and is hitting ninth, 1B Billy Butler is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth and C Josh Phegley is catching and hitting sixth. Also, SS Marcus Semien is hitting in the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Ladendorf is the least attractive DFS play tonight. Avoid him. The others have sleeper potential while facing a starter without much major league experience at all. Semien's daily value increases the most with the move up the order, and he slugged his 12th homer of the year yesterday.

Athletics | Marcus Semien, Jake Smolinski homer in win

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:38:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien and OF Jake Smolinski each hit two-run homers in a 6-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, June 12. Semien was hitting .228-11-25 entering this game, and Smolinski was at .273-1-6.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski doesn't play often enough to merit fantasy value, but Semien has some value in his bat because of the 12 homers he has hit. Semien is worth playing in DFS leagues and may be worth having in deeper AL and mixed formats.

Athletics | Billy Burns out of lineup

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:51:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Friday, May 20. OF Khris Davis moves to left field and is hitting cleanup, while C Matt McBride draws a start at designated hitter and is batting eighth. SS Marcus Semien moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Both Davis and Semien have big-time power at their positions, but they aren't doing you any favors in the average department. Semien's daily outlook perks up with the move to the two-hole, and both he and Davis are good picks in DFS tonight against Sabathia, who is making his first start since coming off the DL. McBride should be nothing more than a desperation flier.

Athletics | Marcus Semien drills seventh homer

Wed, 04 May 2016 17:05:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI Wednesday, May 4, against the Seattle Mariners. He clubbed his seventh homer of the season in the club's losing effort.

Fantasy Tip: The fourth-year shortstop flashed his unexpected power talents in 2015 when he finished with 15 home runs in his first season in Oakland. Only a month into the new campaign, he already has approximately half that total. While he's hitting just .209, Semien still has something to offer fantasy rosters in most formats.

Athletics | Marcus Semien launches fifth HR

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 23:43:26 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Tuesday, April 26, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Semien has five homers, but he is still hitting just .197. He is worth using as a middle infield option in AL-only leagues and as a salary saver in DFS.

Athletics | Marcus Semien homers again

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 17:25:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien hit his fourth home run of the season Wednesday, April 13, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He finished the day 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good thing defense doesn't count for fantasy otherwise Semien would never even get on the radar. When it comes to his offense, the error-prone shortstop is actually quite underrated, as he delivered a career-high 15 home runs last season, and now he already has four long balls in just 29 at-bats. He's a suitable option at short for deep leagues.
