Minnesota Vikings QBs Teddy Bridgewater and Matt Cassel saw a majority of the snaps during spring workouts, but QB Christian Ponder has a chance to start, and head coach Mike Zimmer claims it will be a fair competition. "Actually, I think Christian has done a very good job in the time that we've had him and how much he has improved in that amount of time," Zimmer said. "We're going to give everyone a fair shot, and preseason games will help determine it. We want someone who is going to take care of the football, lead the team in the right direction and when called upon be able to win football games."

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner has been very happy with QBs Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder heading up to training camp. "We've got a really, really good group," he said, explaining that it won't be hard to parcel out snaps in the apparent three-headed battle. Cassel is expected to be the starter, but Turner has praised Bridgewater for his arm strength and quick learning.
Fantasy Tip: Turner's vertical passing scheme is usually good news for his quarterbacks. However, the vet Cassel is unlikely to be a difference-maker for your fantasy squad as anything more than a midrange QB2. Bridgewater is expected to eventually take this job.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater clarified his comments that he did not want to get drafted by the Cleveland Browns. "I think it was misinterpreted," he said. "What I was saying was I had a strong feeling about the Minnesota Vikings. I was able to meet with them five or six times in the pre-draft visits. I just had a pretty solid feeling about the Minnesota Vikings, but, you know, I try to put the pre-draft stuff behind and try to just focus on my career with the Minnesota Vikings."

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's deep throws have been "outstanding," according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Bridgewater's deep-ball accuracy was a concern heading into the NFL Draft, but Turner said Bridgewater "can make all the throws he needs to make."
Fantasy Tip: This is promising news for the rookie quarterback, but he's still a benchwarmer on fantasy squads, as he may not even win the starting quarterback job.

The Minnesota Vikings' quarterback competition this offseason is a wide open battle between QBs Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner will plan on having all three passers see enough snaps in mandatory minicamp to make sure that they all have a "legitimate opportunity" to win the starting job in training camp next month. Zimmer won't rush into a decision, and he made it clear that Cassel won't enter camp as the presumptive starter. Both Cassel and Bridgewater had more snaps than Ponder during organized team activities, and both looked sharper than Ponder.
Fantasy Tip: If the Vikings play it safe, Cassel should be expected to enter Week 1 as the starter. However, Bridgewater is completely capable of winning the starting job, and he'd probably have the most upside immediately of the rookie passers in the league if he's starting. Whoever starts in Minny, though, is a shaky backup QB for your fantasy squad.

According to a report, each of the last five first-round quarterbacks started Week 1 of their rookie campaigns, the longest streak since the AFL-NFL merger. QBs Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater were all first-round draft picks this year. The report also stated that 49 percent of first-round QBs started within their team's first five games.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater said he'd be fine with serving in a backup role in his rookie season. Bridgewater missed only three passes all day during organized team activities Thursday, June 5, and marched the team down the field during the two-minute drill. He had some first-team snaps Thursday, but QB Matt Cassel had the majority of the starting repetitions and is expected to enter training camp as the No. 1 quarterback. "Right now, I'm just learning from Matt." Bridgewater said. "He's a veteran right now, and I notice the things that he's doing when he's in the huddle. I'm taking notes from him and Christian also. Those guys have had past success."
Fantasy Tip: The Vikes have no reason to rush Bridgewater into the starting role with Cassel around. We fully expect Cassel to be the starter in Week 1, but Bridgewater has a decent chance of unseating him at some point if Cassel doesn't get the job done.

Minnesota Vikings QBs Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder will all get an opportunity to work with the first-teamers this offseason but the team would like to enter training camp with an established depth chart.
