Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco (shoulder) is in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Monday, April 25, even though he was dealing with shoulder discomfort Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Polanco has recorded 11 hits and five RBI in his last eight games and should be a starting option in all mixed leagues.

Pirates | Bucs blast three tape-measure shots

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 23:34:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer, OF Gregory Polanco and INF Sean Rodriguez each launched home runs in the win Friday, April 22, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mercer finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk, while Rodriguez drove in three runs.

Fantasy Tip: Polanco is a must-start fantasy option in most formats, while Mercer is a solid middle infielder option in NL-only play and deeper mixed leagues. Rodriguez is worth using in NL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play as a salary saver.

Pirates | John Jaso, David Freese sitting out

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:26:34 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B John Jaso and 3B David Freese are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. 1B Jason Rogers is starting at first base and is hitting sixth, while 1B Sean Rodriguez starts at third and is batting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin. Also, SS Jordy Mercer moves to the leadoff spot and OF Gregory Polanco drops to eighth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Rogers and Rodriguez don't move the needle all that much in daily fantasy leagues hitting near the bottom of the order. But they are facing a lefty in a positive hitting environment. Mercer has a little more intrigue as a low-end shortstop play, while Polanco loses some luster in daily formats against the southpaw.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco, John Jaso sitting

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:16:14 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco and 1B John Jaso are not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres left-handed SP Drew Pomeranz Wednesday, April 20. 1B Sean Rodriguez is starting in right field and hitting seventh, while C Chris Stewart is catching and hitting eighth. C Francisco Cervelli moves to first base and SS Jordy Mercer moves up to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez and Stewart are low-end daily options against the lefty Pomeranz, who has looked sharp in his first two outings of the season for the Friars. Mercer gains the most fantasy value for the evening. He hit .284 (23-for-81) against lefties last year but had zero homers against them. Despite the move up the order, Mercer's fantasy value is capped without much power.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte is out of the lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Sunday, April 17. OF Matt Joyce will play right field and bat cleanup, with OF Gregory Polanco sliding over to left field and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Marte from all fantasy lineups Sunday. Joyce is 3-for-12 with a double, home run and four RBI and should be considered as a value play in daily contests this afternoon.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco has three more hits

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 14:10:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI Monday, April 11, opposite the Detroit Tigers. He also had a double.

Fantasy Tip: That's now three multi-hit efforts for the 24-year-old in just six games. He's hitting a cool .381 as a result, and given his high ceiling, it seems more likely than not that he can keep up his hot streak to begin the campaign. Polanco is emerging as a fine consistent option for daily games as well.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco celebrates deal

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 21:00:46 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco went 1-for-3 with a triple, walk, two runs scored and two RBIs Tuesday, April 5, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Polanco paid instant dividends after the team threw cash at his feet earlier in the day in the form of a five-year, $35 million contract. He could emerge as a solid OF2 in most fantasy formats if his power numbers catch up to his blazing speed. Polanco could struggle Wednesday against Mike Leake, as he is just 2-for-16 (.125) with no extra-base hits, one RBI and a .347 OPS lifetime against the former Red.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco back in action

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 10:08:30 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco (shoulder) is returning to action Wednesday, March 30, after missing five games with a cranky shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Polanco should be fine for opening day next week. If you miss out on his teammates Andrew McCutchen or Starling Marte, Polanco is a nice consolation prize with a stable power-speed combination in the early middle rounds. He could steal as many as 35 bases over a full season.
