Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) has officially been ruled out for Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons in London. TE Joseph Fauria (ankle) is also out, and TE Brandon Pettigrew (foot) is listed as doubtful.
Fantasy Tip: The Lions will be down to their fourth and fifth string tight ends in London in Jordan Thompson and Kellen Davis, who they recently signed. Neither are viable options for any fantasy football lineups.
Fri, 24 Oct 2014 06:08:53 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) is likely out for Week 8, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Ebron missed practice again Friday, Oct. 24.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron ($3,300; 6.6% of your cap) probably wasn't worth the gamble on FantasyScore this weekend anyway. Joique Bell ($4,700; 9.4%) receives a boost. At that price, he looks to be a great buy.
Thu, 23 Oct 2014 07:12:38 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) sat out of practice Thursday, Oct. 23.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron ($3,300; 6.6% of your cap) probably isn't worth a flyer on FantasyScore if he's able to go this week.
Wed, 22 Oct 2014 07:04:02 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron ($3,300; 6.6% of your cap) isn't a good start on FantasyScore if he's able to go this week.
Sun, 19 Oct 2014 08:50:14 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) is inactive for the game Sunday, Oct. 19.
Fantasy Tip: Brandon Pettigrew ($3,000; 6% of your cap) is a poor selection on FantasyScore today as he's primarily a blocker. RB Joique Bell ($5,200; 10.4%) could see more action in the passing game today and is a great RB2.
Sun, 19 Oct 2014 08:48:48 -0700
The Detroit Lions have declared WR Calvin Johnson, TE Eric Ebron, OG Garrett Reynolds, TE Joseph Fauria, QB Kellen Moore, DE Larry Webster, RB Theo Riddick inactive for Week 7.
Sat, 18 Oct 2014 17:35:48 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Jordan Thompson was added to the active roster from the practice squad for the team's Week 7 game, and head coach Jim Caldwell indicated that he could serve as the pass-catching tight end with TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) and TE Joseph Fauria (ankle) expected to miss the game. "Obviously in the role he'd play, he'd end up serving in the capacity where Joe and Ebron both would have played," Caldwell said. "And if that happens, he'll be ready for it."
Fantasy Tip: Several of Matthew Stafford's weapons will be missing in Week 7, and Thompson could end up seeing enough targets to make him a worthwhile sleeper.
Fri, 17 Oct 2014 13:04:22 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.
Fantasy Tip: Obviously, you'll want to make sure Ebron isn't in any of your FantasyScore lineups. Brandon Pettigrew is the team's only healthy tight end on roster, so he figures to see a healthy increase in snaps and targets, especially if Calvin Johnson (ankle) doesn't play, either. Consider taking a flier on Pettigrew, since he's so cheap ($3,000).
Fri, 17 Oct 2014 09:19:46 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) missed his second straight day of practice Friday, Oct. 17, after tweaking his hamstring in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15. "He's had a similar issue before," head coach Jim Caldwell said of Ebron. "It's just a matter of how quickly he's going to be able to rebound. So the doctors are still working with him and it's going to be day-to-day. He hasn't practiced since Wednesday. So hopefully he'll get back soon." If Ebron doesn't play, the team may call up TE Jordan Thompson from the practice squad. TE Brandon Pettigrew is the team's only healthy tight end currently on roster.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron will likely be questionable against the New Orleans Saints, and he's not a smart play at FantasyScore. Take a flier on Pettigrew ($3,000) if Ebron doesn't suit up.
Thu, 16 Oct 2014 13:33:17 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 16, after being limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15. Ebron saw a career high in snaps in the team's Week 6 victory. The team is already without TE Joseph Fauria (ankle), so if Ebron can't play in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, TE Brandon Pettigrew would be the only active tight end on roster.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron ($3,300; 6.6% of cap) is an attractive option for your FantasyScore lineups if he plays. The Saints have been beat up by opponents all season long. Check back tomorrow for Ebron's status. If he doesn't play, Pettigrew ($3,000) is probably worth a flier if you want to go ultra-cheap at tight end.
Wed, 15 Oct 2014 14:15:28 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15. He's a new addition to the team's injury report this week.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron's injury probably isn't serious enough to sideline him against the New Orleans Saints this weekend, but monitor his situation. Ebron remains cheap at FantasyScore ($3,300; 6.6% of cap), and he should continue to see more opportunities in the passing game with Calvin Johnson (ankle) unlikely to play again.
Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:42:32 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) skipped his third straight practice of the week Friday, Oct. 10, for the first time this year. Head coach Jim Caldwell said a decision on Johnson's status for Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings has not been determined, however. "And also, you never know. There's a possibility. A couple weeks ago, I really didn't think he'd be available but the fact of the matter is he came out after doctors looked at him and said, hey, you know what, he can go," Caldwell said. WRs Corey Fuller, Jeremy Ross and Ryan Broyles and TE Eric Ebron would be tasked with replacing Johnson as a committee if he doesn't play.
Fantasy Tip: Despite Caldwell being non-committal on Johnson, it seems unlikely that he'll play. Keep him out of your FantasyScore lineups this weekend. Golden Tate and Ebron stand to benefit the most with added targets.
Fri, 03 Oct 2014 09:50:01 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron, who played a season-high 33 snaps and caught his first touchdown pass in Week 4, will continue to play a big role in the offense in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills. "There's plenty of opportunities in every team we're going to play, so hopefully I just go out there and execute," Ebron said. "I don't want to go out there and mess up. Those are just my biggest fears. I never really worry about the opponent, I always worry about myself more than anybody else."
Fantasy Tip: Ebron comes cheap at FantasyScore ($3,300; 6.6% of cap) again this week. He'd make a fine sleeper option at tight end, especially if Calvin Johnson (ankle) is limited again or sits out.
Sun, 28 Sep 2014 13:50:09 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron had three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 win against the New York Jets. He was targeted four times.
Fantasy Tip: The team hinted that the rookie would be more involved in the offense, and he hauled in his first NFL touchdown as a result. He is still nothing more than a fantasy option as a bye-week replacement at this point, but he is one to watch in FantasyScore daily leagues in Week 5 if his salary remains reasonable.
Thu, 25 Sep 2014 10:03:49 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Joseph Fauria (ankle) suffered an ankle injury Wednesday, Sept. 25, and is being evaluated. TE Eric Ebron will play Fauria's role if he misses time.
Wed, 24 Sep 2014 21:31:38 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron was expected to play a big role in offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi's revamped offense. However, the No. 10 overall pick has played just 69 snaps this season compared to 123 for TE Brandon Pettigrew and 79 for TE Joseph Fauria.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron has a bright future, and is still a solid long-term keeper prospect. But for those in re-draft leagues, and certainly for those in FantasyScore daily play, Ebron is a non-factor.
Wed, 13 Aug 2014 05:36:30 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron has struggled at blocking in training camp.
Fantasy Tip: It probably won't cost him a lot of playing time because of the weapon he is in the passing game. Ebron is a weak TE2 with upside.
Fri, 08 Aug 2014 07:01:23 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (undisclosed) returned to practice Friday, Aug. 8.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron is a low-end TE2 with considerable upside in this offense.
Thu, 07 Aug 2014 11:48:14 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Thursday, Aug. 7.
Fantasy Tip: It is not known what injury he is suffering, so there is no clear timetable for his return. Ebron probably will be a No. 2 tight end in most leagues if he is healthy.
Wed, 06 Aug 2014 22:22:52 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (undisclosed) is day to day with an undisclosed injury, and he might miss the team's preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 9, against the Cleveland Browns. "He has an injury," head coach Jim Caldwell said Wednesday, Aug. 6. "We'll keep him out a couple days and see how he does."
Tue, 05 Aug 2014 15:18:33 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron, who has struggled with some dropped passes during training camp, said he's already hit his rookie wall. "I've already hit my rookie wall," Ebron said after practice Monday, Aug. 4. "I felt like that last week of the learning process and getting over the curve, that was it for me. Now it's about staying true to who I am and doing everything that got me here, and better." Ebron looked good in his route running Monday and caught everything thrown his way.
Fantasy Tip: As a top-10 pick, you better believe the Lions have every intention of getting Ebron involved in the offense right away. However, he may be a frustrating play, and Joseph Fauria could vulture touchdowns. Ebron is a decent backup option with plenty of upside in this high-octane offense.
Tue, 29 Jul 2014 21:43:37 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew and the other tight ends have split time between working on the offensive line and working with the pass-catching receivers and running backs catching passes. Pettigrew worked with the line while TEs Eric Ebron and Joseph Fauria worked on catching passes Tuesday, July 29. "We rotate and go down there during periods," Pettigrew said. "We have five guys here, why not split up and have some guys down there and some guys down here." Pettigrew said this helps his blocking fundamentals, and aids Ebron and Fauria as well.
Thu, 24 Jul 2014 22:26:53 -0700
Detroit Lions rookie TE Eric Ebron exudes charisma and vocal leadership skills that are commonly found among team captains. He took on a "front and center" role at the NFL Rookie Symposium, while other Lions rookies stayed out of the spotlight. Ebron wasn't a captain in three years at North Carolina, because head coach Larry Fedora required captains to be senior classmen.
"I don't ever talk about being a leader. I just always do actions," Ebron said. "I've never been a vocal person about leadership and about being, 'Hey man, you ought to do this.' We're all grown men. I just always show through actions or whisper, 'Hey, let's go.' That's all I do."
Tue, 08 Jul 2014 15:53:04 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said in a Tuesday, July 8 interview that his biggest goal this year is to take pressure off and open up the field for WR Calvin Johnson.
Tue, 08 Jul 2014 15:51:55 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said in a Tuesday, July 8 interview that his timing with QB Matthew Stafford has been great. Ebron said Stafford has a good understanding of how Ebron can help the team.
Fantasy Tip: This is encouraging news in the fantasy football realm, but Ebron is still one of three main tight ends on the Lions with Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria also in the mix. He's only worth a late-round stash in standard leagues.
Tue, 08 Jul 2014 15:19:26 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said in a Tuesday, July 8 interview that fans should expect an "awful lot" of two-tight end sets this season. Ebron and TEs Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria figure to split time at the position.
Tue, 01 Jul 2014 09:32:30 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron has been lining up everywhere on the field, and it is overwhelming to him. "I've been everywhere and that is what's killing me," Ebron said. "I'm used to either learning the Y or learning the A, which we had at North Carolina. But now it's the Y, the F, the Z."
Tue, 01 Jul 2014 07:21:30 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said he expects to line up in the slot 50 percent of the time this season. He said he expects to be on the line with his hand in the ground 40 percent of the time and in the backfield 10 percent of the time.
Fantasy Tip: Lining up in wide receiver positions is part of what makes New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham so effective in the passing game. Ebron has a similar ceiling, but growing pains should be expected. Ebron is a TE2 with upside.
Tue, 24 Jun 2014 12:00:00 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said he wants his position to be known as a "hybrid" or "joker," and not a tight end. "I believe we should start either being called a hybrid or joker," Ebron said. "I think the 'tight end' word or name is traditional, but it's overplayed. It's overplayed into what people assume a tight end is."
Mon, 16 Jun 2014 13:45:19 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions first-round selection TE Eric Ebron's four-year contract is worth $12.249 million guaranteed, with a $7.228 million signing bonus, according to a source. Ebron will receive roster bonuses of $200,000 (2015), $300,000 (2016) and $500,000 (2017) if he attends training camp.
Fri, 13 Jun 2014 16:23:35 -0700
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron, the team's first-round pick, is expected to battle TE Brandon Pettigrew for playing time in offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi's offense. Ebron could play a role similar to TE Jimmy Graham in the New Orleans Saints offense, and the Lions could use plenty of two tight end sets.
Fantasy Tip: Ebron has nice upside in what should continue to be a high-flying aerial offense. However, he must improve his blocking in order to improve all around, and he'll compete for looks with Pettigrew. Draft Ebron as your TE2 with upside.
Fri, 13 Jun 2014 10:52:45 -0700

Thu, 08 May 2014 18:12:03 -0700
The Detroit Lions selected North Carolina TE Eric Ebron with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Tip: As if the Lions needed another offensive weapon.... He'll often line up as a wideout and, despite the presence of Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria, Ebron has starter potential in fantasy leagues. He may be overdrafted, though, especially if Detroit doesn't clear target space for him at the position before the season starts. Matthew Stafford remains a top-10 fake-football QB.

After that, the personnel men rated University of Washington TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins next, then Texas Tech TE Jace Amaro and Notre Dame TE Troy Niklas. "Once you get past the first two or three everyone else you just put them in a bag and kind of shake them up," one scout said. "There's nothing that really stands out. The tough part is all the guys that are talented have off-field issues."
