Tigers | Robbie Ray to make spot start

Wed, 30 Apr 2014 09:18:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Robbie Ray will fill the fifth starter spot against the Houston Astros Tuesday, May 6, to make his major league debut.

Fantasy Tip: Ray had a nice 2013 season in the minors and cleaned up his delivery in the process. He's merely a stopgap rotation option until Anibal Sanchez (finger) comes off the DL, though, so he won't carry much fantasy value.

Tigers | Doug Fister traded

SP Drew Smyly will move into the rotation in Detroit to replace Fister. Ray is expected to start next year in the minor leagues. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said dealing Fister had nothing to do with the hopes that they can sign SP Max Scherzer to a long-term contract before he becomes a free agent. Lombardozzi will serve as a utility infielder for the Tigers.
