Bills | Sammy Watkins misses practice

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 15:47:56 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins has been dealing with the injury since training camp and is expected to test out the foot later in the week. Owners should keep an eye on the situation but may want to avoid Watkins even if he plays because he may be limited by the injury.

Bills | Sammy Watkins will work out foot

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 16:15:27 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will gauge his pain tolerance later in the week to see if he is able to play in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins could end up as a legitimate game-time decision this weekend, so keep an eye on his status in the coming days. If he can't suit up again, then there will probably be another heavy dose of LeSean McCoy. If Watkins does play, though, he may still be limited. Proceed with caution.

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 15:25:39 -0700

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said he is not sure if WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will be able to play in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation during the week to see if Watkins will be able to do anything during practice. He will be a risky option if he is active for Week 4, so owners may want to consider other options to use until Watkins recovers.

Bills | Sammy Watkins won't play Sunday

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 06:38:38 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will not play in Week 3's game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source. WR Marquise Goodwin will start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Goodwin had 112 receiving yards and a touchdown versus the New York Jets in Week 2 but he should be viewed as a boom-or-bust flex option. WR Robert Woods is also likely to see more targets in Watkins' absence.

Bills | Sammy Watkins to play tomorrow?

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 21:27:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) tweeted he was, "Ready to go out there and compete at the highest level!" on Saturday, Sept. 24, but the tweet was later deleted.

Fantasy Tip: Twenty-four hours ago it seemed like Watkins wouldn't play, then it sounded like he would, and now... It could be that the team asked Watkins to remove the tweet so as to not tip their hand to the Arizona Cardinals, but the fact that it was taken down just hours after posting it is another interesting twist. Keep an eye on the inactive list on gameday, but clearly Watkins would be a risky play even if he's up.

Bills | Buffalo hoping Sammy Watkins can play

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 14:44:43 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is still considered questionable for Week 3, but the Bills are holding out hope that he will be able to play. His status will depend on how he feels during pregame warmups.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check the inactive list to see if Watkins will be able to play. He would be a risky option if he is active because he may be limited by the injury. Owners in most leagues may want to consider other options for their starting lineup.

Bills | Sammy Watkins questionable

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 14:50:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is listed as questionable for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins probably will be a game-time decision, so owners will need to check the inactive list. He is not a great fantasy option because he could be limited if he is active for the game, so owners may want to look for other options to use.

Bills | Sammy Watkins idle Friday

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 07:50:51 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is out of practice Friday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins may be 50-50 for Week 3, but he played on a short week last week. That seemed improbable considering the amount of pain he was in following Week 1. Even if he goes, he's just a flex option as he has a tough matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Bills | Sammy Watkins' status uncertain

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 11:00:34 -0700

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said there is some concern that WR Sammy Watkins (foot) may not be able to play in Week 3 after he missed practice Thursday, Sept. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Watkins' status over the next few days to see if he will be active for the team's Week 3 game. He has been bother by the foot injury for several weeks and has not had a great start to the season. Owners may want to consider other options even if Watkins plays this week because he will be facing a tough Arizona Cardinals defense.

Bills | Sammy Watkins not on the field

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 09:07:40 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is not participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins has been able to play in the first two weeks of the season and should have a good chance to play in Week 3 despite missing practice. He is expected to be more involved in the offense but probably should only be a No. 3 receiver this week since he is facing a tough Arizona Cardinals defense.

Bills | Sammy Watkins will face top CB

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 20:08:44 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will be covered by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in the Week 3 game, according to FS Tyrann Mathieu.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins isn't 100 percent, and he will be blanketed by a top-notch cover man. The outlook isn't good for Watkins and his fantasy prospects in Week 3. He should be treated a low-end WR3 at best, if he plays.

Bills | Sammy Watkins misses practice

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 15:38:00 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins is still dealing with his foot injury but was able to play last week. He is expected to be more involved under new offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn and could still be a No. 3 receiver if he is active for Week 3.

Bills | Robert Woods to get more involved?

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 10:47:16 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods received a nod from teammate Sammy Watkins recently, as Watkins suggested Woods "has been open and needs to get the ball more often", according to ESPN's Mike Rodak.

Fantasy Tip: Some may believe Watkins is backing off his "responsibility" of being a No. 1 receiver, but a quick listen to the interview proves that is not the case. New offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn has been tasked with getting the ball into Watkins' hands more often, but he would do well to find ways to get other players like Woods more involved as well. Until that actually happens, however, Woods is no better than a WR5.

Bills | Sammy Watkins to be limited

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 08:39:03 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will be limited in practice this week, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is he played during the short week and will have nine days until Week 3. He has done very little early on, and he can't be counted on as more than a WR3 right now.

Bills | Sammy Watkins to see more action

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 14:23:27 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins is "a special talent" and the team will "try to get him the football more" going forward, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins' foot needs to cooperate first. The fourth overall pick has been underutilized far too often throughout his two-plus year stay in Buffalo and seen his fair share of double teams recently. Expect new play-caller Anthony Lynn to use bunch formations and motion to get Watkins in more favorable situations. Regardless, he's a WR2 at best until he can get closer to 100 percent.

Bills | Sammy Watkins on the sidelines late

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:28:59 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins finished with two catches for 20 yards on five targets in a 37-31 loss to the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 15, and head coach Rex Ryan offered no update on why Watkins didn't play in the final two series.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins still doesn't look 100 percent following foot surgery, and until he is back at full speed, he should be used as a WR3 in standard leagues and avoided in DFS formats.

Bills | Sammy Watkins active for TNF tilt

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 16:14:01 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is active for the team's Week 2 contest Thursday, September 15, against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Normally, Watkins is an every-week guy based on talent alone, but owners might want to think about using some caution here, at least in shallow formats. Watkins will be entering this divisional affair at less than 100 percent, about to tangle with a tough defense, plus it'll be on a short week. Considering quarterback Tyrod Taylor's poor showing in the opener, Watkins doesn't have the brightest fantasy outlook for Week 2 and is shaping up to be a WR3 option at best.

Bills | Sammy Watkins' status still uncertain

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 11:13:13 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) wants to play against the New York Jets in Week 2, but it is not known if the doctors will clear him to play, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to check the inactive list to see if Watkins will be available in Week 2. He caught four passes for 43 yards in the first game and should be the top target in the passing game when healthy. Owners in most leagues may want to keep him on the bench this week because of the injury and the tough matchup.

Bills | Sammy Watkins likely to play

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 05:11:17 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) wants to play and likely will do so Thursday, Sept. 15, against the New York Jets, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The news earlier in the week was that he played through severe discomfort in Week 1, and he could be shut down several weeks. Four days later, he's slated to suit up. Keep in mind the amount of risk of using him this week. He's more of a WR3 this week after he caught just four passes for 43 yards in the opener.

Bills | Rex Ryan hopeful on Sammy Watkins

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 22:51:22 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) might be able to play in the Week 2 game against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 15. He is confident he'll be ready, and head coach Rex Ryan remains hopeful. "I hope he's right," Ryan said.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins is a risky play for fantasy owners on a short week. Unless you're short at receiver or have other options with horrible options, it wouldn't be a bad idea to reserve Watkins and play it safe in Week 2.

Bills | Sammy Watkins listed as questionable

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 09:37:33 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is listed as questionable for the Week 2 game against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins' status will be available before the game Thursday, and you'll have your full compliment of bench options available to substitute in if Watkins sits out. If active, expectations should be tempered with Watkins. Regardless of whether you classify his status as playing through pain or playing at less than 100 percent, it isn't promising for Watkins' fantasy upside. He's a risky start in the majority of formats until he proves otherwise.

Bills | Sammy Watkins doesn't practice again

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 14:01:38 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) did not practice Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: That's the second day in a row Watkins hasn't practiced, but he still believes he'll be able to play in Week 2. His status will need to be tracked heading into the weekend, but he's better off as a flex play if he's limited at all.

Bills | Sammy Watkins working with trainers Tuesday

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 10:14:47 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) worked indoors with the team's training staff during practice Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Expect another update shortly. He'll almost certainly be slapped with a questionable tag in advance of Thursday night's game against the New York Jets, but it appears he is under the belief he will play. If he does, he'll almost certainly draw shadow coverage from Darrelle Revis, although Watkins burned the Jets for 11 catches and 136 yards in Week 17 last season. The oft-injured wideout remains firmly in the WR2 discussion for now.

Bills | Sammy Watkins says he's fine

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 14:27:08 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) said his foot was checked out and it's fine. He said he will be ready to play Thursday, Sept. 15, against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: A seemingly serious matter has suddenly turned into a minor issue, at least for the time being. Watkins has had his fair share of the injury bug. He will still need to play through some pain, but he should not be benched as Revis Island appears to be submerged.

Bills | No plan to shut Sammy Watkins down

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 08:36:03 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will have to continue to play through pain, but the team has no plans to shut him down.

Fantasy Tip: This foot issue figures to be a headache for the rest of the season. The good news is that Watkins has played through persistent leg injuries during his first two seasons, and he has performed well. He's still a solid WR2, but you'll have to monitor his status week to week.

Bills | Sammy Watkins ailing

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 08:20:59 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) had X-rays on his surgically repaired foot Sunday, Sept. 11, which were negative, but he played with severe discomfort in the foot. The question now is whether Watkins can manage the pain, and it's possible he could be shut down several weeks depending on how the foot responds.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins had four catches for 43 yards in the opener, and this revelation is worrisome. However, he has played through persistent injuries during his first two years. He's a legit WR2, but his status is going to be a daily watch item.

Bills | Sammy Watkins does very little

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 21:51:06 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins four catches for 43 yards in Week 1 against the New York Jets. He was targeted a team-high six times.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins has WR1 potential, but should be treated more as a WR2 in most fantasy leagues due to shaky quarterback play in Buffalo and his propensity for injury. If he can stay healthy and Tyrod Taylor can play with some consistency, Watkins could re-emerge as a top fantasy option.

Bills | Sammy Watkins has decent outing

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 14:04:17 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins caught four passes for 43 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins led the team with six targets during the game and his 43 yards was the most on the team. He may still be dealing with his foot injury, so owners should keep an eye on his healthy. Watkins should be a No. 2 receiver in fantasy leagues as long as he is healthy.

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 07:49:31 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is likely to sit out the preseason finale this week, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins should be fine for the season, and he remains a high-end WR2 in fantasy. The number of injuries he has tallied is concerning, but he has performed admirably despite them.

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is good to go against the Washington Redskins Friday, Aug. 26. He won't play much, but head coach Rex Ryan believes he's ready.

Fantasy Tip: It's definitely a positive step in Watkins' recovery. If he doesn't aggravate his foot injury then he should be fine for the start of the regular season. He's snugly in WR2 territory.

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is good to go but head coach Rex Ryan isn't sure if he will play Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: It would behoove the Bills to take it easy with their star receiver during the preseason so as to not aggravate his nagging injury. Being the Bills' only legitimate receiving threat puts Watkins comfortably in WR2 territory.

Bills | Sammy Watkins near return to field

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 19:04:44 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is nearing a return to the practice field after recovering from foot surgery. The team is targeting Monday, Aug. 8, for his first practice.

Fantasy Tip: As the team's No. 1 wideout, Watkins is a solid WR2 in most fantasy leagues in the neighborhood of San Diego's Keenan Allen, Indianapolis' T.Y. Hilton and Denver's Demaryius Thomas. Health has been a concern for Watkins in the early part of his career, but when he is on the field he is a tremendous asset to the Buffalo offense and fantasy owners. Just make sure to have plenty of depth at the position.

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) has passed the mandatory conditioning tests but remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list as a precautionary measure. However, he has been running for several weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins underwent offseason foot surgery and it appears as though the Bills are trying to err on the side of caution when it comes to his rehab. He should be viewed as a WR2 in the majority of seasonal fantasy leagues.

"We're not going to go the whole time without doing anything," Watkins said. "We're going to get on the right page and make sure we stay there. It's really good that he's progressing, now I've got to progress with him."

Bills | Sammy Watkins running full speed

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 06:45:11 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) said he is sprinting at 100%, and he's doing cuts, but certain things aren't at full speed. Watkins said that he's not mentally comfortable making speed cuts to the left off of his surgically repaired foot, but he expects that to be the final hurdle in his rehab. Watkins isn't sure exactly what he'll be allowed to do after he reports to camp, but he's anticipating a limited workload.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins has had injury concerns, but this third year has been the time we generally see a jump in terms of receivers. He holds risk, but there is sizeable upside for the WR2 in fantasy.

Bills | Sammy Watkins 'where I need to be'

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 09:23:59 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) doesn't know how much he'll do during training camp but said he's "right where I need to be" after suffering a left foot injury in the offseason. The Bills report to training camp Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins should be good to go for Week 1 unless he suffers a setback in training camp, but he's likely to be limited and probably won't play much, if at all, in the preseason. He's the Bills' No. 1 wideout who is capable of putting up big games often. Consider him a bit of an injury risk in fall drafts as a WR2.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins still isn't expected to play much in the preseason even if he participates in camp. The Bills will probably take it easy with their top wide receiver. That being said, and assuming he's good to go for the regular season, he's comfortably in WR2 territory entering 2016.

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) posted a video on his Instagram that showed him running, and he said "back on top soon."

Fantasy Tip: The Bills believe Watkins will be ready for Week 1, but he's likely to be limited in training camp and the preseason, making him risky as a WR1. Consider him more of a low-end WR1 or high-end WR2 on draft day as Buffalo's No. 1 wideout. Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) was noncommittal about his status for training camp. Watkins said if he's not ready for training camp then he'll get ready for the first game of the regular season.

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will remain in Buffalo, N.Y., most of the summer to remain close to the medical staff to ensure he stays on track to return for training camp.

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) said he hopes to remove his walking boot Thursday, June 2. Watkins is not sure how he suffered the stress fracture in his foot.

Fantasy Tip: There is no official timetable for Watkins, but he hopes to be ready for Week 1. He likely will not return to practice until sometime during training camp, which makes him a risky option in drafts. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 receiver when he is healthy.
