Steelers | Martavis Bryant's reinstatement imminent?

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 21:25:35 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant is expecting to hear back from the NFL soon in regards to his reinstatement from a year-long suspension for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy. Per the Beaver County Times' Chris Bradford, a league source told the paper on Wednesday, March 29, that Bryant's reinstatement is "imminent." According to Bryant's agents, the receiver has added 25 pounds of muscle and is in "excellent condition".

Fantasy Tip: Owners should know to believe the "25 pounds of muscle" comment when they see it with their own eyes. Bryant has tremendous upside, but he is obviously hard to trust considering he is played a total of 21 of a possible 48 regular-season games since becoming a Steeler in 2014. If he keeps out of trouble following is likely reinstatement, he should be a considered a high-risk, high-reward WR4 in fantasy.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant awaiting reinstatement

Tue, 14 Mar 2017 06:29:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant is eligible to return from his one-year suspension, and the league has until the end of March to rule on his reinstatement. Sources close to Bryant said he has gained 15 pounds as he trained and helped coach high school football during his absence.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant scored 15 touchdowns in 21 games with elite speed on his 6-foot-4 frame. It's anyone's guess what a prolonged layoff would mean for him, though. He'll probably have to be taken as a WR3, but the risk and reward are both plentiful.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant to be reinstated soon?

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 14:44:35 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant could be reinstated in as soon as two weeks "if the [NFL] does not drag its feet", according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette. Bryant applied for reinstatement in January after serving a one-year suspension for his second violation of failing drug tests.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant has the size, speed and talent to be a successful professional wide receiver. His off-field issues remain a big concern, however. Even if/when Bryant is reinstated, it could take some time before he becomes fully acclimated again to the NFL. Drafting him as a mid- to late-round option is ideal, but be prepared to stash him.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant not a lock to rejoin Pitt

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 14:17:52 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has "a ways to go" before the Steelers can count on him playing, according to owner Art Rooney.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is a great talent on the field, but he has had more than his fair share of off-field issues. It remains to be seen what happens this offseason, but there's just too much risk involved to seriously consider taking a chance on Bryant at this point.

Steelers | Pittsburgh hopeful about Martavis Bryant

Tue, 24 Jan 2017 09:37:02 -0800

Suspended Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant applied for reinstatement early this month, but head coach Mike Tomlin said while he is "hopeful", he is also in "wait-and-see mode" in regards to his potential return to the team.

Fantasy Tip: It is an expected reaction from a coach regarding a player who has suited up in only 21 of a potential 48 regular-season games since he was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Bryant reportedly considered retirement at one point during his year-long suspension, but his application for reinstatement suggests that is no longer an issue. Bryant has been a huge big-play threat during his brief rollercoaster career and a player the Steelers missed while he sat out in 2016.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant applies for reinstatement

Tue, 17 Jan 2017 11:12:02 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant applied for reinstatement Tuesday, Jan. 17, according to a source. Bryant will not be able to return for the playoffs, but he could return for the 2017 regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant's size, speed and deep-play ability would give the Steelers yet another offensive weapon. Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell will still be the focal points of Pittsburgh's offense if Bryant is reinstated, but Bryant should not be overlooked. He tallied 765 yards and six touchdowns in 2015 despite playing in just 11 games.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant making improvements

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 19:15:45 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant said he has taken his year-long suspension seriously because he understands he is out of chances. Bryant said he has trimmed down his friend circle and has put on 10 pounds of muscle.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant said all the right things, but it remains to be seen if he can stay out of trouble. His big-play ability gives him tons of upside in Pittsburgh's offense, and he will be worth the risk as a WR4 in 2017 drafts.

Steelers | Markus Wheaton not sure of role

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 19:45:33 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton said he isn't sure if he will remain in the slot or will see more time on the outside with WR Martavis Bryant suspended for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Wheaton will have a golden opportunity to carve out a big role in the offense, especially if Sammie Coates is slow to develop. Consider Wheaton a WR4 with intriguing upside.

Steelers | Pittsburgh confident in Sammie Coates

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 12:13:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates will be one of the next men up in light of WR Martavis Bryant's year-long suspension for violating the NFL' substance abuse policy. There is no urgency to sign or draft another wide receiver, according to general manager Kevin Colbert, who said they feel good about Coates.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, Coates, Markus Wheaton and Ladarius Green will all play larger roles with Bryant out for the year. Coates will ideally help open up the field with his deep-threat ability. He'll still only be in his second season in the NFL, though, so don't set expectations too high. Antonio Brown should be the first wide receiver taken in fantasy drafts, though, especially in PPR formats.

Steelers | Pittsburgh won't cut Martavis Bryant

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 11:37:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant will not be released despite his one-year ban for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, according to general manager Kevin Colbert.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers have lost an important part of their offense for 2016, but the likes of Ladarius Green, Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates are capable of replacing him together. Green and Coates should help spread the field more, while Wheaton serves as more of a possession receiver. Green is now a borderline TE1, while Wheaton and Coates should be viewed as a WR3 and WR5, respectively.
