Packers | Richard Rodgers receives praise

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 11:33:24 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers has the ability to be a top-level talent, according to tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers and Andrew Quarless are expected to both see an adequate amount of playing time this year. Rodgers may have more promise, but neither should be taken as a starting fantasy tight end.

Packers | Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless to compete

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 09:57:16 -0700

Green Bay Packers TEs Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless are expected to compete for the starting tight end job this year. Quarless caught 29 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns in 2014. However, he could be subject to discipline under the league's personal conduct policy after being arrested over the weekend for discharging a firearm in public.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers played fewer snaps than Quarless and didn't produce as much, but those roles could be reversed in 2015, especially after Quarless' arrest this past weekend. However, neither are worth drafting in standard fantasy leagues.

Packers | Richard Rodgers to see more snaps?

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:53:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers could see more playing time in 2015, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Rodgers played 528 snaps, while fellow TE Andrew Quarless played 695 snaps. Demovsky said he wouldn't be surprised if those numbers reversed this season.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers may see an increased role, but there's still Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams to account for, not to mention another tight end in Quarless. There are a lot of mouths to feed in Green Bay, and Rodgers will feed his receivers first. Neither Rodgers nor Quarless are starter worthy.

Packers | Coach impressed with Richard Rodgers

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 19:03:49 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers has progressed and taken a natural step forward, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. "You look at the way he performed Week 1 compared to how he performed the last stretch of the season. Now you have a chance to go back and look at all the video, it's a lot more natural for him. He's not thinking about what he's doing, he's obviously focusing more on his technique and fundamentals and his awareness of what the defense is doing."

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Rodgers should be viewed as nothing more than a low-end No. 2 tight end for drafts. He will compete with Andrew Quarless and sixth-round selection Kennard Backman for playing time. However, it shouldn't surprise if Rodgers makes the biggest splash in the virtual game. Expect weekly inconsistency, but in the right matchups, Rodgers could prove to be a nice budget flier for FantasyScore contests.

Packers | Competition for starting TE job wide open

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 08:47:36 -0700

Green Bay Packers tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot said the competition for the starting tight end job will be wide open when training camp starts. "I think we are pretty wide open at this point," Fontenot said. "I think guys have shown some progress, and those guys warrant a much bigger look. And I think once we get to training camp, we'll have an idea of a rotation, at least, and giving guys reps just to make sure they're ready to start the season." TE Andrew Quarless may be the safest option to start at this point, but TE Richard Rodgers could start in the near future because of his performance during offseason workouts.
